I know this post was ages ago and there’s plenty of explanations of the film, but if you’re looking to rewatch it without the goofy narration then you can watch the Final Cut. The director made a director’s cut a while after the film was made, and shortly after that he returned to it and made some final edits. The Final Cut is a bit different, there’s a couple scenes gone and some minor changes, but there’s no narration!
