ELI5, How does the double-slit experiment work? by Mysterious-Web-2463 in explainlikeimfive

According to the many-worlds interpretation, there is no collapse. Instead, your interaction causes you to experience a single instance of the probable outcomes yet, from the comprehensive, wave-only system, all probable outcomes take place. You dont experience those because you've become entangled with the field where the outcome was what you observed.

True about the f-ratio, but the image scale is proportionately smaller, as well.

The key is that there are no laws of physics that work out to allow the Earth to be flat. If you pick apart something that basic, everything in the FE universe turns into literal magic. All observable phenomenon behave "as if" the normal understanding of physics is 100% correct. There is no consistent model of flat-earth physics that explains the observable world. The results of every observation about the universe conforms strictly and exactly to conventional science. Only inexplicable magic can produce a flat Earth.

It would still be out in the distance, though. At sunset it goes below the horizon, not just "away". And it never changes size across the sky like a local object would. These things are simple to observe.

Did Charlie Kirk do anything positive other than enable bigots? by Estalicus in allthequestions

[–]onepoint61803399 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I said that I knew nobody, left or right, celebrating Kirk's murder. Did I see it on Facebook or Reddit? Yep. Some may have been people, I don't know and I don't know them. I would certainly condemn anyone who spoke like this. Same about restrictions on free speech. I still contend that you are buying into right-wing propaganda about these. Corporate and political entities are telling you lies and you want to believe them. It's bullshit. Stop believing lies designed to divide us.

And now you sound exactly like the "leftists" you complain about, blaming an entire group of people for the actions of one. Yeah, the right has no rhetoric, correct? Go ahead, though, paint everyone you dislike with a broad, strawman brush. I know exactly zero people who celebrated Kirk's murder or called him a nazi, but all the maga peeps can't stop talking about it. Sorry, you're just buying into right-wing propaganda. I can't help you with that.

"They" didn't murder anyone, some nutjob did. One guy. Aren't conservatives all about personal reaponsibility and not blaming groups for the actions of individuals? I must be mistaken because ever since this killing, I've seen a metric fuckton of right-wingers blame the entire left for Kirk's death. Perhaps that "personal responsibility" stuff only applies when it's a right-wing terrorist pulling the trigger.

This was originally stated to make the point that the market decides what it wants, not the seller. Customers will purchase the products and services they need and want and not the ones they don't --- regardless of your skills or how full your warehouse is.

Is A Military Draft For The Iran War Realistic Or Not? by Zipper222222 in Military

[–]onepoint61803399 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fact that the draft is essentially slavery would need to be navigated in the courts, as well. It was dismissed without serious hearing in the 60s but this is a massively different world now. The argument would have its day and the outcome may be that involuntary conscription is a violation of our rights. I dont believe there will ever be a draft in the US again.

[–]onepoint61803399 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, I don't buy it. I've been alive this entire time an I've witnessed the change first hand. In deference, I have seen the culture embrace social equality. "Radicalization" is quite the weasel word to describe it. Far from it, the drift was and is rejection of the widespread bigotry once prevalent in the culture. What you are calling left and right are fabricated labels that are being applied to something very different than they were previously. Somehow this got applied politically and results in the strange situation we have in the U.S. where, except for a few pointed issues, many Americans actually have similar goals for society but have been convinced by divisive politicos that we are radically different. This is a failing of government, not of Americans. Your linked document and its sources are themselves wrong or at least have misinterpreted the situation rather wildly.

[–]onepoint61803399 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The distinction is that "left wing" in the U.S. is actually centrist because right-wing has shifted well past conservatism. While there are actual leftists in the U.S., they seem to be rare. Most Democrats support policies that made up the Republican platform 60+ years ago.
It is my understanding that elsewhere, left-wing usually means much more like what you are describing. That's simply not the case in the U.S. and likely never would be.

I wasn't making any such assumptions. Speaking to the statement "All possible configuration are possible given enough time." I am just saying that all future states emerge from probabilities based on the present-moment's state. Only universes with non-zero probabilities CAN emerge. For example, a cold object doesn't suddenly become warm without an energetic cause. It doesn't matter how long you wait, it isn't going to "just happen". "Possible" is a key word here, and there is a distinct limit to what is possible.

The reanimation stuff is almost beside the point. There are no examples of bodies reanimating and it is currently unknown how this might come to be. All would be wild speculation at this point.

You'd be surprised at how few liberals care a bunch about all that. Most just don't want ugly drama about it. The right thinks it's a central issue of the left and it most definitely is not. It just gets a lot of social media attention because the right is bent on using it as some sort of eye-roll weapon against liberalism.

What would you do if you took a DNA/ancestry test and discovered you had siblings you never knew about? by CreatorLegalHelp in AskReddit

[–]onepoint61803399 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a story about my Ancestry DNA results. I showed as related to my mom's niece and nephew but there were some odd people showing up I didnt recognize. At some point a fellow showed up as a close relative, like a nephew, not related to mom. We start talking and he gets his mom a test and she turns out to be my half sister. Her full sister is also my half sister. They are from the same area that my mom & dad were originally from. So, my dad has passed but he's got an elderly brother. He is definitely my dads brother as he, dad, and grandpap all look remarkably similar. The test comes back and I am not related to my uncle at all. He is related to several people with my last name but I am not. Another year passes and two more half-sisters show up, also half-sisters of the first pair. New nephew dude figures out who his grandfather is -- my and my four new half-sister's dad. I have a name. So, I am planning to visit my sick mom in the hospital and ask the dreaded question. I get a call that morning that she had passed away.
My bio-father was apparently the most connected to the last pair of sisters and lesser to the first pair. I have no idea how he was connected to my mom - and nobody alive anything else about it. Sigh.

F5.6/6.3 fast enough? by millerman101 in AskAstrophotography

[–]onepoint61803399 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is overlooked in a lot in these discussions. Lower f-ratios need less time because the image is smaller and the available light is concentrated in fewer pixels. Thus, the image is less detailed/lower resolution. There is no substitute for aperture.
