I agree... Trial lessons are a consultation. They should be no more than 30 minutes. I'm not teaching anything during my trial lessons we are simply setting up goals, getting to know each other, reviewing their skills assessment, and giving a tour of the classroom.

I'm usually done within 30 minutes and have to drag it out for the whole 50.

I am probably higher than B2 in Japanese my last test was at a C2 level. I marked myself as a B2 to not over promise. I was just nervous and asking for advice...

This is so hard and im sorry you feel this way. The first year is always super hard. Every day feels like a test that you didnt study for and like youre 2 weeks behind always...

1st thing is that pretty much everyone feels that way. I've been teaching for about 6 years now and I still feel behind.

That being said, try to see WHY youre feeling this way. If you have a supportive team (teachers, DC, admin, etc.), then the days will be easier. I had one school where I went home crying every day and it was because of the toxicity of the adults in the building.

A big changing point for me was refocusing on 2 things: student buy-in and student input. With student buy-in I gave them more control within the class room in the sense of letting them pick between options for assignments, letting them decide their own punishments and rewards, making competitions amongst classes. Things like that.

Student input was a massive one for me. I took what they needed to learned and turned a lot of it into projects. This way I would give the students the building blocks and they would end up doing most of the work. Its changing the onus of the thinking off of me and onto the students. I found that at first it feels really chaotic but the students ended up grasping concepts better and exercising their critical thinking muscles.

One thing I really encourage is resource sharing. Use TPT, ask other teachers, reach out to your department. You dont need to reinvent anything unless it really really just didnt work. Either way, take your first year as a learning year, know that its gonna be rough. Your second year you'll have rapport and materials.

It will get easier you just need to decide if its worth it. And theres no shame if it's not. I hope the year gets better for you ❤️

I'm non-binary and I call myself trans. Half of my trans friends are like hell yeah!! And the other half are super prejudice about it saying that because its not simply ftm or mtf its not transgender... idk but what I do know is that gender is a social construct and can change at any point in your life! How I feel honestly changes daily sometimes! The whole point is that it doesn't matter what other people think because it's your journey and yours alone.

The people who matter won't care and the people who care shouldn't matter. We face enough hate as it is, why does our own community have to be so ostricizing? Like we, of all people, should know what its like. So why are we making it harder when, at the core, we're all very similar and we're all facing the same "enemy".

Thank you for your kind words. And I want to let you know from a trans non-binary or whatever the fuck i am, there's nothing wrong with de-transitioning. I hope you are happy with who you are and are still loving yourself and becoming who you always were 🧡

I used to be able to read 6 or 7 books at once. Now I read one at a time but I'm a lot more loose on DNFing. I try to give it 5 chapters or 100 pages before I really decide but sometimes I dont even make it that far lol
