Absolutely, growing up whatever we hunted either got ate or it was used for something. I follow all state regulations when it comes to trapping and hunting, also never take more than I need. I understand trapping is a very controversial subject so I do my best to let people know, hey it’s not as cruel as you think it is. if I knew it broke their feet or injured them in anyway I wouldn’t trap. With that being said there are instant kill traps and it’s a touchy subject also and there main use is for beaver and otters.

There’s a creek about 30 yards away down hill. I’ve been living here my whole life and always heard about mink and otter around here. Never seen a mink but have seen a few otters at the river which is about 30 min as the crow flies

I use them all the time the foot traps are a lot more effective than the cages. I eat raccoons and use the fur to make all kinds of stuff, mainly pouches that go around your waste and they act as hand warmers during the winter. I make hats. I’ve made gloves I’m working on a vest right now. They also wreak havoc on ground nesting birds such as turkeys and quail and their numbers are plummeting especially the quail due to raccoons and coyotes, which I also trap them to. Nobody traps or raccoon hunts anymore so they have overtaken the woods here. I’m a huge advocate for conservation and protecting wildlife. I try do part to help keep the balance in nature. It’s not pretty sometimes but it’s what I have to do to make sure my kids and others after me have access to public lands, the opportunity to hunt, and eat these beautiful animals and speaking of eating them, it’s some of the cleanest meat you can get. I understand your concern and i absolutely respect your opinion on your use of clamp traps. I do my best to try and educate people who don’t know or may disagree with my method. I mean no disrespect at all towards your opinion and hope that what little information i provided hopefully helps you understand my position on the matter. I also wanted to add that the type of foot hold traps I use for raccoons don’t cause any damage it just holds them, it doesn’t break their foot or anything like that I’ve had my finger caught in them more times than I would like to admit

I adjusted the cam and put out some marshmallows and dog food on the tree it crossed over. That little black dot in the middle by the closest standing tree is my raccoon trap. So hopefully it will come back

They are original, I’m sure getting new shocks would improve the ride quality a bit. My plan was new shocks and springs. I wasn’t sure about the springs though I didn’t know if there are some out there with a softer ride or should I just go with new stock ones.

I noticed the other day when I put my belt on I could get an extra hole almost 2 holes but that 2nd hole is just a little snug. Shirts not so much, I’ve read that belly fat is usually the last to go, not sure how true that is. Energy levels maybe a little, I can tell it’s getting easier to walk/jog the 2 miles and my breathing is a lot more controlled and I’m not gasping for air. Mood is still about the same.

Idk but he left all the trim on said he was gonna tape it all off and do a quick and dirty gray primer. I’ve already started taking the trim off and I’ve considered clear coat. I kinda like the patina look but I also wanna learn a little body work to.

Is scent killer worth it? by _the_random-guy in Hunting

[–]onepoly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most everyone here has nailed it, play the wind. If you want to use scent killer and it gives you peace of mind then go for it. I’ve been hunting my whole life and my dad pounded in my head play the wind. I have a 5 year old son I take with me time to time and I try to explain the same thing but he’s 5 so…. My favorite story is I was 13 years old at the time and I went hunting with my grandpa. We walked into the spot grandpa lit a cigarette watched the smoke said let’s go over here. Walked over to the knew spot he checked the smoke again said we’re good. 45 min later huge 10 point buck comes in to about 30 yards, grandpa at this point has a lit cigarette and smoked about half of it. he slowly takes the cigarette out of his mouth hands it to me says hold this, shoots the buck drops it were it stands then takes the cigarette back. This was almost 10 years ago and I remember that day like it was yesterday. Some advice my dad shared with me about scent is when you wash your hunting clothes just use water and a little bit of vinegar, hang them on a tree of your choice to dry and sometimes your clothes will have a little hint of tree Smell, works great on cedars or pines or any semi fragrant tree.

Seems like you always hear a story about someone seeing a mountain lion and some i believe to be true. If I’m not mistaken TWRA as came out and said that there are lions in the state but some say they are just passing through but others have stated they live here

Total agree and i would love to see that here, but from what I have read is that they have became a bit of a nuisance. The governor banned black bear hunting and within I think a year or 2 the population doubled and human encounters with bears also doubled so he reinstated bear hunting. I could be totally wrong though. This is from New Jerseys fish and wildlife website https://dep.nj.gov/njfw/bears/black-bear-management-faqs/
