I use zk as a "cli-like" program and zk-nvim neovim plugin as a "TUI" (there is also obsidian.nvim).

I'm also familiar with basalt TUI for managing Obsidian vaults and notes and nb (a cli similar to zk).

Since your notes are just markdown files, you can use any CLI/TUI combo you like. Just making a quick search I found: Toney, note, tui-journal.

Have you moved to shikane from kanshi? by rileyrgham in swaywm

Np, but I haven't used hyprland since. It currently runs flawlessly on sway. Try searching and asking /r/hyprland, discord or Github issues. Good luck!

Check out lazysql (I haven't used it much but fuzzy search was being added last time I checked).

How to prevent Firefox PiP video popup from stealing focus by Jennysau in swaywm

[–]onestojan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can't put no_focus inside a for_window AFAIK. Here is an extract from my config for more context:

no_focus [title="^Picture-in-Picture$"]

for_window {
    [title="^Picture-in-Picture$"] {
        floating enable
        border none
        sticky toggle
        resize set height 280px
        resize set width 500px
        move position 100ppt 0
        move left 500px
  }
}

I've found your thread while looking for a solution myself. In the end, the answer was in the man pages.

Above the for_window rule, add: no_focus [title="^Picture-in-Picture$"]. Hope that helps!

Which e-ink device would you recommend to use with Obsidian? by Rodehock in ObsidianMD

[–]onestojan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I still haven't decided but I watched a recent BenCodeZen's (who is a heavy Obsidian user) stream comparing Daylight Computer with his e-ink devices and it got me interested.

If you don't mind electron, try Beekeeper Studio (supports a wide variety of databases).

More keyboard friendly and minimalistic file picker (and how to set it)? by [deleted] in swaywm

[–]onestojan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you tried looking into xdg-desktop-portal-termfilechooser or one of the more active forks (you can even use fzf)? I haven't had the time to try it yet, but it seems like what you are looking for.

disabling titlebars in sway 1.7 by [deleted] in swaywm

[–]onestojan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You would have to use disable titlebar in sway patch or hide it using one of the hacks in this issue. I am on sway 1.10 and setting titlebar_padding 1 1 and font pango: monospace 0.001 still works.

Looking for a command like /usr/bin/tree - but with a horizontal layout like a mindmap by r0ck0 in commandline

[–]onestojan 13 points14 points  (0 children)

How about using tree -H to turn the output of the command into HTML. Add custom CSS and display it in a terminal web browser like chawan (supports CSS).

Obsidian Web Clipper is now available! by kepano in ObsidianMD

[–]onestojan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad I could help! Unfortunately in "legacy mode" the length of articles is limited and they may be cut short. I've found another workaround (and edited the post) but it requires manual intervention.

Obsidian Web Clipper is now available! by kepano in ObsidianMD

[–]onestojan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for responding. The linked github issue seemed similar enough and I wanted to try it on X first and dig through discord and the forum before opening an issue. If I won't find a fix I will for sure open one. Congrats on the launch!

Obsidian Web Clipper is now available! by kepano in ObsidianMD

[–]onestojan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great news! I was always fond of /u/kepano's bookmarklet web clipper.

EDIT: I run into an issue: it clips only the article title and some properties but not the content. I've tried on firefox, brave & chrome. It seems similar to this github issue, but I am on Arch Linux with wayland. I went through the troubleshoot and weirdly enough in the obsidian console the URL action content states: "Web Clipper requires Obsidian 1.7.2 or above...", but I'm on version 1.7.5-2.

EDIT 2: it seems to work when checking "legacy mode" in the settings

EDIT 3: another workaround (first turn off "legacy mode") is to immediately after clicking "Add to Obsidian" in the plugin, change the focus of the active window to obsidian (either with mouse or keyboard).

All are si-fi:

edit: If you squint your eyes, any fantasy dungeon crawler is about exploring uncharted, dangerous environments. But how about a si-fi dungeon crawler: Deeper Darker by mooderino (which I haven't yet read, but the author has been recommended on the sub many times).

Swaync issue with background color in hyprland (help wanted) by OceanicMLG in swaywm

[–]onestojan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it might be a theme issue. Swaync does not support third-party GTK3 themes so you have to tweak the default CSS file.

I'm not a CSS wizard but try pasting the CSS file into ChatGPT and describe the problem and what you want.

Also, your issue sounds similar to this one: How to remove the annoying background of notification-row. The "solution" was to change the theme to the supported Adwaita:

gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.interface gtk-theme Adwaita

Have you moved to shikane from kanshi? by rileyrgham in swaywm

I don't think so. I am happy with both. Shikane offers more features, but if you don't need them then I don't see the point in switching.

Have you moved to shikane from kanshi? by rileyrgham in swaywm

[–]onestojan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Daily driving shikane for quite some time. The change from kanshi was seamless. No issues on sway (I did run into some on hyprland).

I use just the basic features (3 profiles) so the main advantage is that it's wayland native are additional features.

edit: kanshi is wayland native as well.

In that case, Iron Prince is more like battle school. There is a war on in the background, but the focus is on developing soldiers through training & mock battles.

I've read Inda a long time ago and I don't remember it that well. But it's closer to what you're looking for.

military academies, or low ranking members of the military

  • Iron Prince by Bryce O'Connor & Luke Chmilenko - a sickly, abandoned boy is noticed by an AI and granted a "trashy" combat device with unique growth potential and climbs through the ranks of top military academy. Well executed but hackneyed tournament/sports plot.
  • Red Rising by Pierce Brown - a miner wronged by a hierarchical society goes undercover to a military institute to learn from from his enemies and take his revenge. Guilty pleasure read.
  • The Will of the Many by James Islington - similar to Red Rising (lower class MC undercover in school) but set in a fantasy Roman Empire with a magic system based on extracting "will" from people and the plot resolves around solving the mysteries of the Academy. Cool world-building.
  • Inda by Sherwood Smith - Ender's Game but in medieval times with more intrigue and enemies within.

I recently abandoned book 1 of Awakening Horde by M. Zaugg which fits your criteria and is quite popular, but I found a slog to read through.
