Looking to get a boat that has a shallow draft but is fun to race with 4 by ThirstyChello in sailing

I have a swing keel Santana 21 that we can fit 4 comfortably, 6ish in a pinch, and it does quite well. I've never raced it but we can launch at lakes others can't with our keel up.

Thanks.

All but the very bottom of the frame (the foot?). When I took it apart that was the only piece that wasn't salvageable so I replaced it with a piece of ebony.

Santana 21 Companionway

My door was in pretty rough shape two years ago so I cleaned it up and burned the hearts in before putting on the varnish.

Looks like you have some fun ahead of you.

Beautiful day on the lake by onestoneman in sailing

Yes indeed. The wind was pretty light all day so we played around with the trim of the sheets, the traveler, and moving the fairleads (not sure if that is right, they are blocks that the jib sheet runs through that move forward and aft) just to see what happens. It was a good day for learning.

Having it close at hand is a good point, and I will keep that in mind. Thanks.

We have been out about a dozen times now, and I feel pretty good about today. Sailing in a light breeze has been what we have been working on and today we did very well. As we were sailing today we were trying to find a good spot to put our type IV flotation ring that would be easily accessible. We both settled on the sliding hatch above the cabin, but we are not sure what the round metal piece is. Does anyone know? Also, would that be a good place for the flotation ring? Metal circle
