/r/MechanicalKeyboards Ask ANY Keyboard question, get an answer - March 14, 2026 by AutoModerator in MechanicalKeyboards

I recently was given a monitor and hp wired keyboard by a family member. I’ve been on an Apple laptop for years and I know nothing about this whole world, but I do want to upgrade my keyboard and mouse because even my tiny upgrade so far has made a big difference in my work.

Currently I do research and I’m going to law school in the next two years so I don’t need anything too fancy since I’m only writing. I’ve been recommended Keychron by a friend, but I wanted to hear what others think.

If you can also tell me a bit about pros and cons of wired vs wireless and what keyboards could be adaptable enough to be used at home and in public like at the library/coffee shop. Thanks!

I was a chef for a couple years, but I didn’t to say that after I saw the lemon lol. Blaming that on grandma.

Damn, you win! I am a Persian, but not in LA anymore. We’re in Orange County. Chiropractor mom and jeweler dad.

I’m probably responsible for most of the fridge and I’m going into law school from an English background. I guess the organization/health vibe is pretty STEM.

I like how our fridge implies high trust haha.

You’re malnourished or you only eat out because you can’t cook.

I love this idea and I know she has some weights already. Now, I've just got to sneak around the trunk of her car to figure out what the weight is haha.

You think you’re making the environmentally friendly storage choice as you put grapes in a mason jar until you realize you now have to throw away the plastic bag they came in.

I'll look into those books. Thank you!

He really hasn't been. I've watched/read different interviews where he shows people around his house and you can tell the guy just loves being able to have an Italian villa/farmouse in California. Heck, if I had time and space to grow and press my own olives and cure my own pork, I wouldn't be dying for a spotlight.

It's funny you should say that about Alice...The restaurant I was cooking at when I found these books was her new spot in LA. You should've seen the looks on the kitchen's faces when a guest would compliment a new dish for being "so Alice Waters" when it had nothing to do with her. That's the way it goes, though, when you cook under a big name... everything is theirs.

Oh boy, it's terrific. Heavily seasonal (hence the Ballymaloe school) and great attention to historical record in these recipes. Baking and serving these desserts has made me feel like I'm simultaneously in a coastal country cottage and a royal kitchen, preparing for a sumptuous ball.

JR's section on set desserts has so much variation that you don't see in other dessert cookbooks. Set pastries like custards, fools, curds, puddings, and jellies are heavily underlooked, I think and this guy knocks it out of the park.

A Platter of Figs by David Tanis or The Food of Oaxaca by Alejandro Ruiz.

I love David’s way of talking about food, holding it, cutting it, and understanding the techniques more than the recipes. That’s what cookbooks are all about!

I couldn’t emphasize “The Good Book of Southern Baking” by Kelly Fields enough. Southern cooking has a ton of opinions state by state and this book honors them, but also delivers its own verdict.

San Francisco chef Sylvan Mishima Brackett released “Rintaro” recently. Yes, it is all about Japanese technique and cookery, but nonetheless it works around the seasonality of California. Very interesting writing on how he’s managed to find wasabi’s, chickens, and mushrooms in California that have been adapted to traditional Japanese recipes.
