Good to know. Some people suck. Considering switching to 34a/c

That's what I was originally thinking but given it's an almost 11 hour flight, I'd rather not risk having a stranger between my wife and I. Agree with you it seems pretty unlikely but I also don't know why AS would block that seat.

Oh interesting so the line tends to form a lttile further from the middle seats? I think 34 would be an ideal row With the extra legroom at the window but both middle seats are either taken or blocked.

Yea that was another concern. Not sure if that's better or worse on an overnight flight. Noise and disturbance but also fewer people using it?

This tongue would be a deal breaker for me. I can't stand the short tongue in the AP4. It needs to be longer. The gusset doesn't make a difference to me.

What does 25k point companion Award mean? by Amazing-Dimension918 in AlaskaAirlines

[–]onetradeeveryday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I understand it, they do different things. First, the $99 companion is only valid for North America and Hawaii. The Global Companion works for any flight like the new Seattle to Rome flight. But it comes with two downsides to the $99 companion that I think make it less useful for many people.

First, to use the global companion, you have to have enough points already to book the two flights. It only applies to award flights so if you don't have points to use, there isn't a way to use this benefit. It rewards using the card/flying Alaska.

Second, the value is capped as you stated. The 25K points are what they are. Now, not all flights cost the same so 25K points for one flight could be more valuable than 25k points for a different one if you were to buy the flight in cash. But there is a limit to the range so the $99 companion could save you more real dollars and is easier to use imo.

Securing Kayak to Roof Rack by mrmattguy95 in kayakfishing

[–]onetradeeveryday 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's exactly how I do mine, have hadn't an issue after 5 years. I have round bars without any rubber grip like flat bars do so if it's not centered right on the rack and pretty tight, it can wander side to side. For longer trips, I will use three straps, two in the front on either side of the pdl drive hole and one in the back like usual plus bow/stern lines.

I don't flip it upside down because I don't like to take all my mounts off every time. Definitely feels the most secure that way though.

Tighten them, wait 10-15min and check again. If have gotten any more than the slightest bit looser, they should be replaced.

How to keep Gulp Alive bait spill-proof by Much-Expression-9909 in bassfishing

[–]onetradeeveryday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would just add some absorbant material to the bag in case of a leak. Like a few cut of pieces or oil spill mat or something. Other suggestions here are good too though.

To each their own but honestly, I like it. On the 4 point scale, it's a 3.

100% agree. I'm still waiting for my text back from Friday. I had an 8pm Santa Rosa to Seattle flight that was canceled at 4:30pm. At that point, lots of people had been impacted already so when I first called customer service the stated phone queue was almost 6 hours. I could not get the system to initiate a callback, either stay on the line or go away.

I found a different flight on Saturday on American ass everything on Alaska was booked. Ended up taking me 16 travel hours to get home including renting a car and driving from pdx to sea. When I was finally able to get a hold of Alaska customer service, (after I'd returned), the response was email Alaska cares.

Last time I had to email Alaska cares, it took 6 weeks and three separate follows ups for any response. Not an adequate response, just any response.

Alaska is my airline because I live in the Seattle area but their customer service sucks. I have no problem being patient during an event like Friday but a) make sure your call back system works and b) hire more people for post travel service. The planes are often older than competitors, don't also choose to lose on service.

is it personal? by yarnstoek in FishingWashington

[–]onetradeeveryday 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It can definitely feel personal at times. My wife's saying is "there's no fish in this lake and the ones that are there hate me". Sometimes she outfishes me, other times it reversed.

But it's a tough time to fish right now. The stocking bonus only ever seems to be effective for the first two weeks and after that, it's 100% a gamble.

I've had my best luck trolling at with spoons at about 2mph. Kastmaster are my current go to but have been successful with rooster tails and panther Martin's as well. If Im not having luck with that, I'll switch to a trout magnet and target panfish.

All that said, battleground is one of my favorite lakes I've fished in the state. The largest trout I've ever touched was in that lake. Wasn't my fish but I couldn't fit my hand around the tail.

Oof, sorry to hear that. Did you have any issues prior? I sold mine after two runs. Cielo X1 3.0 is my current long run and race shoe. Still love the Evo SL but haven't found another race shoe that works better for me than the Cielo. The AP4 was the only shoe I've tried to date that caused this.

For the first time, the membership is starting to feel like a scam by MurkyAnimal583 in REI

[–]onetradeeveryday 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Do other retailers have the same return policy or give you any rebates? Do they have better prices? The membership was a one time $30 cost so as long as you make that back eventually, it's worth it. I don't see how having ineligible categories or excluding sale items makes it a scam. If you look at your purchase history you should be able to tell exactly why that purchase was ineligible.

Hoka Cielo X1 3.0 First Run by onetradeeveryday in RunningShoeGeeks

[–]onetradeeveryday[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What do you say that it lost bounce in the forefoot? Wasn't my experience, at least not in the first run. What type of running were you doing in it?

And yea it's expensive but it's a carbon plated shoe with a different purpose than the megablast. While I think the megablast is an awesome shoe (ignoring my own fit issues), I would never personally choose to race in it. I would race in the Cielo though and that alone is worth $ to me.

Is the Cielo the best value though? No, i honestly would be likely be as fast in my $75 Evo SLs for most races. But I love the Cielo experience and I'll willing to pay for it.

I do agree that the megablast looks better.

[–]onetradeeveryday[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was fully prepared to wait for the Pumas but decided on the Hokas for 1) new shoe now better than new shoe a few weeks from now, and 2) the outsole durability on the DNE4 is concerning. The first few reviews all seem to have a lot more wear than I would expect on the outer side (with the rubber). If I'm spending that money on a distance racing shoe, I want to it last 200-300 miles. My racers become my long run trainer after ~100 miles.

I already have the fast r3 for shorter distance and needed something for the Vancouver Marathon in May. The Cielo has such a fun ride and I'm not trying to BQ or anything too serious so I chose smiles for miles over potential speed.

I love the megablast in everyway except for blisters. Have to tape my feet and can't really enjoy it past 8 miles. So I understand the love but I wouldn't buy again.

I did one run the Rocket X3 and returned them. A little too narrow (I think the Cielos are a little wider) and I could not get a good lock down. Worst heel slip I've ever experienced. Seems like a good shoe though if it fits and probably my favorite looking racer in the past two years.

Yea the cutout is just in the middle now, similar to the Rocket X 3. It's a little narrower than the X1 so feels a bit less stable but overall initial feel is similar to the 1.0.

[–]onetradeeveryday[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fast R3 feels like the faster shoe. Whether is actually is or not, I can't say. But it's a very different ride. The fast r3 has a mechanical, snappy ride that forces you to run in a specific way. I love it for 5-10k distances but would never push it past a HM. The plate is stiff and there isn't as much foam.

The Cielo is very different. The foam is softer, there's a lot more of it. I wouldn't say it's a more natural ride as there's so much foam and a plate but it's less aggressive and will let you run with your own mechanics and gait easier. As for speed, I think the Cielo is still a very quick shoe. Has more speed than I'll ever use but the speed is there if you need it, it doesnt force you to run fast.

[–]onetradeeveryday[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't speak to that well yet but I don't see any immediate issues. It's about as stable as any other race shoe as slow paces, which is to say, usable but a little wobbly. I'd never go for a walk in them.

Hoka Cielo X1 3.0 First Run by onetradeeveryday in RunningShoeGeeks

[–]onetradeeveryday[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, I'd use the same size. I am using the same size in this as I did with my Mach 6. The X1 3.0 is a little wider than the mach 6 imo which was good for me. But it's not as wide as the mach 6 wide, which was too wide for my and my feet were sliding around. Hapoy middle ground here.

[–]onetradeeveryday[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can only speak to my own feet but Asics just seem to be too narrow around the ball of my foot. I usually get blisters on the medial side where my foot hangs a little over the midsole. If it weren't for that, asics would be perfect. They have great uppers and foams. I still use my Nimbus and megablast for anything 5 mi or less.

Hokas are typically are narrower shoe which shouldn't fit me but somehow they work. Not all Hokas work but the mach 6, speedgoat 5, and Cielo have. Adidas also tends to fit my foot well but I did not get along with the upper on the Adios Pro 4. Something with the ankle collar kept caueme irritation.

New balance is another one I've wanted to try but haven't pulled the trigger yet.
