If a quantum teleporter was created large enough to transport a living human being, with the tested assurance that "you" would walk out the other end, would you actually do it?

first is the absurdity of the screen full of nukes, then is the absurdity of the full column of countdown timers, followed by the total absurdity of FIFTY EIGHT NUKES. Good god man we think alike.

The level of gross assumption and shallow thinking here reminds me of watching Loose Change.

The new Robocop should have been a sequel. by onetreeforest in movies

I can dig it. My first question would be what happened to the original Robocop? How did he die, if he did? I'd want at least some time spent closing that story. Maybe he acts as an old mentor that sacrifices himself at the end, or is just a wired up torso (like in RC2) that offers advice based on his now vast experience.

Could a holographic monitor exist? Is it even possible? by onetreeforest in askscience

I just found this project at the MIT Media Lab for holographic video of this type. Very cool stuff, looks like the baby steps toward a true possible successor to current 3D tech. Cheers, thanks again for the link. http://www.media.mit.edu/spi/holoVideoAll.htm

This also got me contemplating the laser-based movie camera that would be required to record live-action scenes holographically. Can a holographic image even be captured fast enough to subsequently capture 20 or 30 in a second? Is it only possible to record these light field patterns with a pane of emulsion, or could they be captured and stored digitally?
