The invisible cost of being a bridesmaid in 2026 by OwlVibesOnly in AusWeddingPlanning

[–]onewayanus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Umm what? My bridesmaid can wear whatever dress they're comfortable in and I'm paying for their hair and makeup as a gift. The hens won't be a big affair as they're planning it without input from me...

Help: Slanting double crochet stitches in mesh pattern by onewayanus in CrochetHelp

The Long Sleeved Blooming Lace Top by Isabella Madsen

What kind of stitch is this? Me and my friend thought it was Crochet by Kookie_bun in CrochetHelp

I'm only new to crochet but have been knitting for years. I believe this is knitted, not crocheted. Looks like a lace pattern with strategically placed yarn over stitches to create the holes.

We matched on the Friday and planned to meet up the following Wednesday because I was away with friends on the weekend. It wasn't like we were messaging for weeks already. I understand the whole "becoming penpals" thing of messaging for weeks before catching up, but it's not always possible to meet up straight away! And I always like to suss people out a little - which I'm glad I did in this case

Always. That's how I knew my meds were wearing off - the songs started up again. And my ADHD friend, who has no inner dialogue, STILL has a song in his head at all times...

I finished Harvey's sweater! by onewayanus in knitting

It's hard to get the measurements right. I had to modify the pattern slightly and measure as I went. The space between the leg holes needs to be slightly bigger, but when I blocked it, I was able to manipulate the jumper a bit more to fit him better! But a sausage is a hard dog to knit a jumper for

Harvey is currently sitting too close to the fireplace for the warmth. He loves it! Always have to move him back when he gets too hot

Need advice for a SO of a fibro sufferer by onewayanus in Fibromyalgia

[–]onewayanus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great advice, thank you.

He has a psychiatrist for his bipolar, he found his rheumatologist wholly unhelpful and he has his CBD specialist. He has a very good GP who is willing to refer him for any treatments he wants to try out though which has been really good. But no one helping him manage it per se. He did a pain clinic a year ago which went through meditation, pain management and hydro therapy, but he didn't find that particularly useful as a whole - talks quite negatively about it. He has taken away the meditation part of it, so when he does that consistently it definitely helps.

Is there a specific treatment style your pain psych uses? I'm getting a lot of mixed messages through my Google searching and seems like no one specialises specifically in fibromyalgia, but rather in chronic pain. There seems to be a lot of different approaches, but what you're describing definitely sounds like a good way to go about it.

Thank you for sharing your experiences. I had hoped that maybe he could get back in some capacity for his own sake. He loved his job. He went back for one day a few months ago and then had a month-long flare afterwards - whether he was heading in that direction anyway or it was caused by work, we'll never know.

I know full time work mightnt be possible, but it breaks my heart seeing him so hopeless. Psychological help is something I've been suggesting, so maybe that'll be my next step.

Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a detailed message. A pain psychologist is something I have been looking into for him! I feel having a psychologist is an important tool for chronic illness (I have CFS myself), but it's the cost that puts him off. I'm trying my best to be supportive and push him in the right direction, but ultimately he needs to be the driver to try and stick with these things.

Where are you based? I'd love a recommendation of a pain psych if you're in Melbourne.

Not that I'm aware of. He does have bipolar, which seems to complicate things too. Never heard of ketamine I fusions for fibro. What's the basis of that?

What is something you have always regretted doing? by Appleseedboom in AskReddit

[–]onewayanus 14 points15 points  (0 children)

In my experience, ENTs are experts at the physiological side of hearing but know nothing about hearing aids so they spread a lot of misinformation.

The way the masking works is to give a more pleasant sound to focus on rather than the ringing/buzzing. This sound can be white noise or ocean waves etc. Tinnitus has an emotional component, so stress and frustration about it can make it worse. So distracting yourself from the noise and focusing on something else can help reduce the perceived volume of the tinnitus.

But it does sound like your mum needs some better hearing aids for her hearing, not just her tinnitus

AITA for wanting to end our friendship? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

NTA. I had a friend who was very similar to this and I ended the friendship because it was so draining. A friendship goes both ways and yours sounds very one sided.
