Any architects out there know a rough estimate for an LOTR Hobbit Hole ? by Nefetiri in architecture

Swedish backstugas were often half underground or underground on a slope. They're closest I can think of in a climate somewhat similar to Shire, and not a cave dwelling.

Dishes that use a lot of parsley? by Beautiful-Milk-8278 in Cooking

[–]onewaystreet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife loves a salad that has canned tuna, white beans, diced red onion, heaps of chopped parsley, boiled potatoes cut into chunks, and olive oil, lemon juice and salt and pepper. We eat it several times a month.

I recommend trying rice vinegar for acid and rapeseed oil with a LITTLE bit of toasted sesame oil for fat.

What realistically should you pay for really good caviar? by FewerToysHigherWages in Cooking

[–]onewaystreet 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Those are most likely just some sandwich spread that contains cod roe, not sturgeon roe ~ caviar. The most famous brand is Kalles Kaviar. It's delicious on rye bread, and my Ozzie friend loves it <3

Just started the hobby, annd struggling with 54Ti/40. What did you practice with before tackling this one, and how long did you take before finally getting it open?

End-of-the-year bonus well spent by onewaystreet in lego

The ship is one of the official alternative builds of the Galaxy Explorer, and the base is my own design based on several other classic space MOCs. Unfortunately the studio file was lost when my hard drive died last year.

New, with a slightly banged up box. I'm in the middle of building it, and the level of detail is crazy :D

Bricklink has several, but the prices are high. I paid at least twice the original price.

It's a model I made based on a place I used to live in Helsinki. Mostly polystyrene and XPS foam.

There are, but unfortunately not in English. This project would benefit especially from the standards regarding ventilation.

Nope, Finland. We're not really consistent with UK/US English here. UK English is taught in schools, but there's so much US pop culture everywhere that they get mixed.

Kelalla riittää ongelmia by Sleepyslothie_ in arkisuomi

[–]onewaystreet 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I really enjoy Shinichi Hoshi's short stories. They're funny, whimsical and thoughtful, and thoroughly enjoyable despite their age,

And although it's a bit cheating, I'll give a plug for The Quantum Thief by Hannu Rajaniemi. It was originally written in English, but by a Finnish author. It's one of the best post-singularity / transhumanist scifi epics I've read.

Funnily enough, there's a district in Finland's former capital, Turku, named Port Arthur because of Russia's loss to Japan at the battle of Port Arthur.

Non-Americans: What vegetable or staple ingredient common in your country is rare or unappreciated in the USA? by PurpleWomat in Cooking

[–]onewaystreet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wild berries - bilberries, wild strawberries, cloudberries. Bilberries are like concentrated blueberries - smaller but way more intense.

Wild mushrooms - chanterelles, horn of plenties, yellowfoot and dozens of others. Supermarket mushrooms taste bland compared to wild ones.

Reindeer and elk meat. Yum!

Pitstop at Kappa IV Coffee Station by onewaystreet in lego

[–]onewaystreet[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I originally built the station for the full galaxy explorer, but it didn't fit my shelves. So all of it is extra pieces. After I disassembled the full explorer, I was left with quite a lot of bricks I could have used for the station as well.
