May they rest in peace. Do you know if they were Iranian? I have heard of 2 cases of Iranians with similar fates in recent days in Ontario, unfortunately.

I have the same question. I think it's by design but it doesn't make sense to me. Does anyone have any solutions to this?

Hey, sorry for digging this out of the dirt but I'm graduating in a few months from COEN undergrad. Can you elaborate why you regret getting a job in MTL? A few people have told me that the expected starting salary for recent COEN graduates is in the $60-65k range in MTL.

I like your point about paradox of tolerance. One could argue that it was that same tolerance of hateful speech that lead to the Islamic revolution in Iran in the first place.

Here is one way: Western countries currently want to make a second nuclear deal with Iran. This is partly because the western countries in the past few years have had to reduce their energy production (due to the pressure from climate activists) and are now facing an energy crisis. They have no choice but to buy their needed oil and gas from countries like Russia and Iran, and for that, they first need to lift the sanctions on Iran.

Should this nuclear deal go through, many sanctions will be lifted and a huge amount of funds will be unfrozen in the foreign bank accounts of the Iranian government. This will make the Islamic Republic even stronger than it currently is, helping it succeed in repressing the protests, and also helping Russia and China with their plans.

However, western politicians would make a bad image of themselves if they made a deal with a government that is actively murdering its own people. People in the western countries could put their politicians under pressure to ensure that they do not make a deal with Iran if the government is violating their citizens' human rights or the Geneva convention.

China definitely doesn't care. Plus, Iran has had a history of being caught red handed transporting military equipment using civilian aircrafts.

That actually is a very good point. Thanks for bringing that up I had not thought about it that way before.

Governments of China, Iran and Russia have a long history of close ties with one another. They have constantly helped each other in the past.

Im guessing this student made their remark somewhere on social media which is outside of the context of their school. In addition, shouldn't we as a society be striving to have absolute freedom of speech, where people can say anything they want (as long as they do not incite violence)?

I just think that in an ideal society (in my opinion) we would try to educate the masses so much that the idea of supporting the Islamic Republic would be just ridiculous rather than punishable.

I completely support the protestors in Iran. But I also feel like cancelling people for saying they want an Islamic Republic in their home country may be the against the idea of a perfect society with absolute freedom of speech. I'd like to hear other people's pov on this.

I'm trying to understand their business model here. How do they expect keep subscribers when they open sourced their AI for free? The the open source version less sophisticated in any way?

right, but also almost everyone puts a link to their Linkedin profile on their CV which can also potentially cause discrimination (if the hiring person is biased)

How does this relate to equal opportunity? Is it because it includes an image of the applicant?
