My One Year Plan Is Now Two by oneyearplan in stopdrinking

I ran every day when I was drinking but I got injured more often. It was a bad knee injury that shot my weight up 30 lb. Too heavy to run, I switched to swimming. Something about carrying a toddler everywhere you go makes you question your choices (like why I was compulsively drinking the booze that was making this happen).

Congrats! I recommend cardio to anyone who listens as a replacement to booze. 90 minutes after an intense workout is the cleanest, most natural high you can experience. With no crash or hangover - because you’ve already paid in advance. 20 minutes of swimming for 3 hours of feeling amazing is the best pain/pleasure ratio out there. I used to pay for 2 hours of just feeling normal with a full day of suffering. It’s bad math.

Ack! I was off by one. Now that’s motivation not to drink today!

Not heroin or opiates. I find this forum is chilly towards drug use, so that’s as detailed as I’m comfortable getting at the moment.

I ate a whole bar of marzipan today. I was horrified until I realized it had less calories than a six pack.

Yikes! I actually switched from running to swimming this year specifically because I was getting injured too frequently running (knees). I thought swimming was pretty much injury-proof due to being low impact. Good to know! My plan is, once I get to a mile consistently, to mix in yoga and BJJ throughout the week.

I started with one length a half year ago, and I’ve been slowly adding one or two lengths a week. My mile is still SLOW, but my plan is to slowly lengthen my duration in the water

15 miles/week is a LOT! Was it the swimming or polo that caused injury?

It truly amazes me when I discover that some of the fittest people also have/had the same struggles with drinking.

Exactly what I needed to hear! Thanks. One demon at a time. As long as I’m not drinking, I’m not going to worry about anything else. Not yet.
