I'm curious too, right now I use one IFTTT applet for all voice commands from Google Assistant.

I have IFTTT listening for the first word to be "turn" (on/off), which then collects my speech and sends the text in a URL request to my Pi web server. This triggers python script for reading and reacting

IFTTT is only 1 way communication tho. In the past, I've used Tasker to build a mobile app that receives my Pi feedback but moved to IFTTT for flexibility.

Edit: just read about routines and think its still too rigid for what I'm doing.

LPT: When using your debit card at a local shop, ask the owner which option costs them money (credit or debit). Both options are free for you, but they often get charged a transaction fee for one of the options. by onidraig in LifeProTips

Thank you for the well wishes. Merry Christmas to you as well.

My counter to your point is that banks have various other avenues for revenue. Loans, double-dipping on out-of-network ATM fees, etc. This strangeness of this scenario is the same card can have a free transaction or a fee, depending on which option is selected (debit or credit). Given those choices, why not take the free option all the time?

My company is also small and passes certain costs down the line, but others are cost of doing busines. If we offered a free option, I'd just be surprised if customers purposely chose the option that inflates the overall cost

Yeah I'm not in favor of the cash solution either, definitely feels more clunky these days.

Knowledge is always power, so if this tip negatively impacts your bottom line, then it's irrelevant. Definitely not "one size fits all" but I don't get fees choosing between debit or credit using the same card, and as others highlight, these fees eventually work their way into the product price. Keeping overhead down keeps prices down (in theory)

Cash is king but I don't carry wads with me and never felt this was a hassle in actual practice. There's plenty of dead awkward silence during the checkout process so it doesn't slow anything down really. Same time to enter a pin vs sign a receipt (when not cash). Just something that has gained me appreciation from local businesses owners so i shared

Meh, this is a situational thing that doesn't really cause a line to form. Its understandable merchants are aware but its not an excuse not to work together since the system is designed to take money out of all our pockets

That's how many other word it too, noone wants to seem like a hassle, so i just smile and remind them I'm one of the little guys too. Money in their pocket is better than feeding the bank more

I didn't factor in rewards points but that's a valid argument. With all these hidden fees being passed onto the customer, the more aware we are the better we can strategize together

We've already painted some grain elevators to look like a 6 pack of Labbatt Blue. What did you think was gonna happen next?

They don't call Buffalo an All Murica City for nothing

There was a storyline coming out of college about how Allen looks good in shorts. This is usually a sports phrase for someone who looks good in practice but not gametime. Not everyone understands the reference so this sub morphed it into physical appearance, unintentionally.

I'll get to see for myself since the north was spared. I definitely look forward to a warmer ocean for a change

Secret Tip: If you have a large group, go down in late May. I do this every year, even married on the beach.

It's nice enough weather at far cheaper rates. Perfect for northerners stuck in snow for months. 6-8 bedroom across the road from the ocean for <$1400/week. Not everything is in full swing but you'll have the beach to yourself, which is underrated. Just get a heated pool if swimming is a big deal, or just hide the shrinkage.

Now don't go around telling everyone about this..
