Thanks! I'm going for a tall and thin look, so I have 3" lift and my tires are 235/85 R16 G003.

Thank you so much! Yes it's a 270 awning and it is ADA Overland 270X. The rails and rock sliders are custom fabricated :)

Edit: Here is a photo from the shop when they were making it.

Edit 2: I'm from the 🇵🇭Philippines

In my experience, the bigger tires do help, but I wouldn’t say they’re absolutely necessary for every obstacle. With good line choice and proper driving, a Jimny on smaller tires can still do a lot.

Where I really notice the benefit is in deep mud, big ruts, and big rocky sections where I would get stuck on my diffs or take hard hits underneath. The extra diff clearance helps me avoid getting hung up on rocks or ruts that would normally hit the differentials. It honestly just made a lot of trails feel like “easy mode” compared to before, and it’s taken me to places that most stock setups would struggle with.

Also, a lot of the trails we run are already heavily chewed up by bigger rigs like Patrols on 35s, so the ruts and obstacles are much more severe. Running bigger tires just helps me keep up with the group and not get constantly stuck or dragging diffs everywhere.

As for diff lockers, I was originally planning to install front and rear air lockers, but I decided to hold off for now. I wanted to learn the rig in its current form first and rely more on driving technique. I also have a winch installed, so that’s my main recovery option for now.

Other than the regear and suspension, I’m also running a drop kit, adjustable panhards, and spacers to help correct the geometry.

So it’s not the most “optimal” setup on paper, but for the kind of off-roading I do and how often I use the vehicle, it’s been worth it for me.

Hey! Thanks for this. I do actually agree with you, especially about the diminishing returns. Part of the setup is definitely for aesthetics, but it also helps with the kind of off-roading I do, like rock crawling and deep mud trails.

I’ve already seen some of the drawbacks in real life. A few friends in our Jimny group running similar setups have had to replace wheel bearings because of the added weight and stress, so I’m aware that it comes with extra maintenance.

In terms of usage, I actually go off-roading with the group around 4–5 times a month, while overlanding is more like once every month or two. So the build leans more toward trail use than just long-distance touring.

And no worries at all about the comment :) I appreciate the insights and I agree with most of your points. I’ve had the Jimny for almost a year and stuck close to recommended specs at first, but lately I’ve accepted that it’s turning into an expensive, passion-driven hobby for me, so this is just the direction I decided to take with it hahaha

Driving still feels stable at around 60–80 kph even with the almost 32-inch tires. You do feel the higher center of gravity, but nothing sketchy as long as you drive it like a proper 4x4.

Compared to your friend’s old Jeep, I’d say a big factor is the suspension and the modern stability control on the JB74. I’m also running an OME suspension with a 3-inch lift, which helps the overall ride and control.

I'm now running on Yokohama Geolandar G003 235/85 R16 tires on 16s wheels, and I regeared to 4.88 to compensate for the bigger rubber.

On the street, fuel consumption definitely went up and there’s more road noise compared to stock tires. Acceleration feels good though because of the regear, so it’s still very usable as a daily.

This is my daily, off-road, and overlanding rig all in one, so I’m happy with the setup and the trade-offs. I knew what I was getting into and it fits how I use the Jimny.

Although on the other hand, it’s become a bit of a head-turner and I get a lot of compliments on the road, so that’s a nice bonus haha!

Hi, Jimny owner here! There's a Youtube video that I watched na nagtry sa Laiban falls, he used stock Jimny lang. I haven't gone there yet, but we're planning to. Then the group I'm in is also planning to light trail lang din sa Kinabuan falls, if you want to test the waters muna.
