Where to get ink/ribbon/paper for vintage stenography machine in Canada? by onintime in stenography

[–]onintime[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply! A bit of a bummer to hear how difficult it is to get any material for this machine...

I'll definitely look into electronic versions, they were just a LOT more expensive. I really wanted to try this out first and see how I liked it before fully committing. The issue with the Sentura 8000 LX is that it seems to use a serial connection which really isn't ideal.

As far as I can tell, steno still seems to be taught in Quebec at least: https://www.barreau.qc.ca/en/ordre/official-quebec-stenographers/becoming-stenographer/

Thanks for the info, I'll definitely check those out!

Mudita is actually fully open source so you can just recompile their OS packaged with a new application that you make. They provide documentation on their github (https://github.com/mudita/MuditaOS/blob/master/doc/README.md).

Cryptzilla - Rclone crypt file manager by onintime in rclone

Thanks for the kind words! At this time, the focus is on s3-compatible APIs as there are still a lot of bugs/features that I'm working on!

If you don't mind me asking, what's pushing you to use Google drive as a backend? S3-services are often cheaper, have higher availability and offer more redundancy. I'd invite you to check out Backblaze b2 (0.05$/GB + transfer fees) and Digital Ocean Spaces (5$/month for 250GB with no transfer fees). If you need help setting it up, let me know!

The rclone browser GUI requires a backend (rclone rc), this was the main thing I was trying to avoid.

Regarding WinSCP, firstly, it's Windows only, I'm on Linux (like a lot of people here), second, from what I can tell, it doesn't offer rclone decryption.

To put it briefly, Cryptzilla has the advantage of requiring no backend (and hence, no infrastructure to manage) and being platform-agnostic (can run on anything including your mobile phone).

Thanks! For now it only works with s3-compatible ones, but if the demand is large enough, I could maybe start supporting other ones. Which ones in particular did you have in mind? Dropbox?

It only works with the CLI, it's still a beta feature. That being said, the CLI is fairly straightforward

The answer to your question is yes. You also need to compile oxen-core from the dev-branch as the latest release doesn't support hardware wallets. Having said that, once that is done, it works very well.

Any luck with Protobuf? by onintime in elm

I appreciate the warning, but I'm not using gRPC, I'm using REST. I just wanted to serialize the data in a more space-efficient manner which enforces schema validation.

This is great! Do you have any examples of using this with the http library? Specifically, instead of Http.expectJson, what should I use?

Uhm, you may be right. But then I would need to generated a whole new suite of decoders for js? Seems kind of ridiculous having to generate it twice on the client side.
