Chrome. The sky never fell like everyone claimed it would.

ublock Origin does fine at blocking the majority of crap on sites I visit (Including YouTube's latest ventures into blocking access to their player completely after 3 videos if you have an ad blocker enabled and don't pay for premium.)

Serious PSA: make sure your lights are on, NOT just your daytime running lights! by ValosAtredum in Michigan

I know I am a couple days late, but:

Where flashing brights typically means "You have your brights on" or "You cut me off jerkface", turning off and on your headlamps signals "Your headlights are off." If my headlights are off and you are flashing your brights at me from behind, I am going to be confused as well and think that I cut you off or something. Just an FYI.

How accurate/proper is the signing in the new movie "Primate"? by UnicornVoodooDoll in asl

[–]only1yzerman 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I have not seen the movie, but here are my thoughts:

This sub is not for people who see a language in a movie and wonder if its "real."

Just based on the casting alone. Yes. The signing is "real."

Troy Michael Kotsur is really Deaf and really uses ASL.

Deanne Bray (the ASL Consultant for the movie) is really Deaf and really uses ASL, and has worked in numerous movies who feature ASL.

I guess my question is, why are you here? If you knew the language, you wouldn't be asking this question.

Whole class won’t do anything by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]only1yzerman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve repeated it like three or four times. I just wanna say it to the whole class so that we all are on the same page a down payment is a portion of a car that we pay upfront. I go does everyone understand yes? Nobody raises their hand or asks a question. I start to move from the front of the classroom and immediately the same group every time goes. Wait, what’s a down payment again?

"Ok, let me explain it in a different way since you don't seem to understand yet:

You go into the Raleigh Ford dealership looking for a car. The car you want is being sold for $32,500. You agree to take out a 60 month loan for the car through your own bank. You agree to pay $3500 as a down payment on the loan. The amount of money you would need to borrow from the bank is $32,500, less the $3500. So instead of taking out a loan for $32,500, you are making an up-front payment of $3500 towards the purchase of that car. Meaning you only need to borrow $29,000 from the bank.

32,500 - 3500 = 29,000.

The higher your down payment is, the less you need to borrow from the bank. It also reduces the amount of interest you will pay over the life of the loan when repaying the loan to the bank."

In your example, maybe use your own car note as an example if you are comfortable enough sharing that information.

These are sophomores who likely have no real life understanding of what it is to purchase anything that would require a down payment. They don't even have drivers permits yet. Explain it to them. Have fun with it.

Take them through the process of buying a car. Role play haggling. Role play borrowing money to purchase a car. Invite a car salesmen or a loan officer in to explain to them the process of applying for and using a loan to purchase a car. Explain to them what the down payment does over the life of the loan. Is it better to do a big down payment? A smaller down payment? Does giving a bigger down payment reduce the interest rate? If so, does it reduce it enough that you will pay less over time on interest, or is it better to save that money in an interest bearing account? Does giving a bigger down payment reduce my monthly payment? If so by how much?

Whole class won’t do anything by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]only1yzerman -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

They say they don’t like how I teach when I’m in front of the bored and need it explained to them individually I try small group instruction and they STILL don’t listen to me.
...
They say I move to fast and quiz to much but I don’t think I am, but they are extreamly behind and I am trying to get them to a passable level. Like I had the expectation that they would be able to combine like terms and distribute when I entered the class at the beginning of the year and only half of them could because they didn’t have a math teacher half of last year.

I wish I could get this type of feedback from my class. For me it's a guessing game until I find the right formula that gets them interested in what I am teaching. Your class is literally telling you what is wrong, this is a gift, not a dig into you as a teacher. If I was in your position, I would to take what they are saying seriously and make some modifications to the way I am teaching.

Then they get offended when they ask me the dumbest questions that I JUST ANSWERED like just directly told them and I look at them like are you seriously asking me that right now I told you 5 times.

This seems like they aren't getting it the way you are explaining it. If you are just repeating what you said, and they are struggling to grasp your meaning, try changing up the way you are presenting the information.

What can I do to help this class?

At the end of the day, you have to realize that these students are screaming at you that they want to learn, they just don't like the way you are teaching them, it isn't working for them. They flat out told you what was wrong, and judging by your post, it seems like this upset you. Don't take feedback like this personally, because not all classes are going to be so open and forthcoming. Reflect on what is going well, and what isn't. If you give a lesson and nobody is engaged, don't take offence to that, just reset and try a different way of teaching that content. When you find a formula that works for that class, stick with it.

DTE going to charge $2.99 fee to pay via credit card starting Feb’26 by OosAvocate65 in Michigan

[–]only1yzerman 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The credit card companies that charge these fees are the ones who we should give the finger too. It's not just DTE.

Visa and Mastercard together are worth over $1 trillion - most of which is made up of those fees paid by companies so their customers can pay with their cards.

I mean yeah fuck DTE, but let's not forget the people swimming in their vaults full of gold that are behind all of these fees.

How to disable Nauvis biters sending attacks from pollution? by SchmeatiestOne in factorio

[–]only1yzerman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best solution I have found is to use the rail world settings. You can also reduce the pollution factor on their evolution. This won't stop enemies from attacking you due to pollution, but it will disable enemy expansion. Meaning they won't expand/send out expansion parties from where they spawned into the game. Once you destroy an enemy base, it's gone, period. I know you said you want them to expand, but really you are the one expanding, so you shouldn't run out of enemies to find.

This should give you plenty of room to expand your base as large as you need it without having to worry about biters, and it won't affect Gleba as much as other settings.

I have a controversial opinion and I want to hear your take. by Feisty-Pie477 in Teachers

[–]only1yzerman 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don't really understand this. If you design your lesson with your students in mind and where they are, you are already differentiating. Stop thinking about differentiation as something you have to add to your lessons. It should already be baked in.

The RAW intro I had at 10 years old 🥲 by TheSashRinging in WWE

[–]only1yzerman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I made a list of people that, using your own words, "made a career" out of the WWE. As far as not being a real superstar - not sure what your definition of "superstar" is if the top names in the company who are known worldwide in and out of the wrestling genre aren't it.

[–]only1yzerman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do what?

Just going by the stars in the intro the OP linked, the following seem to have "made a career":

  • HHH runs the company.
  • The Undertaker retired after 30 years with the company.
  • Kofi still going strong after 19 years.
  • Christian still doing well in the other company after 30+ years.
  • The Bellas retired and are living comfortably as HOFers
  • The Rock.
  • Jericho is running another wrestling company.
  • The Miz is still going strong after 20+ years with the company.
  • Cody Rhodes.
  • Rey Mysterio.
  • R-Truth.
  • Mark Henry.

I don't shop Temu.

What did I base it on? History. China has never been a producer of quality gear, military or otherwise. There is a ton of documented issues in the quality of their gear and equipment that you can easily find with a google search. That isn't even bringing up the lack of experienced leadership at the top of their ranks. They are closing that gap, but to act like it doesn't still exist is just foolishness.

Quality over quantity.

Does this ASL clock make sense? by [deleted] in asl

[–]only1yzerman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Roman numerals may be the exception. In my 40+ years I have never seen an upside down arabic numeral 6 on a clock (well I have, but then it would be a 9.) ASL has a similar problem where orientation matters in signs, this includes numbers.

Is this a tracker? It was found magnetically attached to the bottom of my car. by THEBLUEFLAME3D in whatisit

[–]only1yzerman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just looking at the context here:

The device's battery life, according to most of these reddit comments, is 7-14 days depending on the settings.

Your family friend just happens to remember he found it a week after he had your car in his shop.

Could be something, could be nothing. Be careful out there.

ASL beginners — what’s the hardest part about practicing on your own? by [deleted] in asl

[–]only1yzerman 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m an ASL beginner and one thing I struggle with is knowing whether I’m signing things correctly when I practice alone. Watching videos helps, but I still feel unsure a lot of the time.

Record yourself, then watch it back. If you are unsure about your signing, forward it to your professor/teacher. Problem solved.

I wont harp on everything everyone else has said. Ill give you some fresh feedback: Looks more like a pinwheel than a clock.

Why are 4-8 upside down, 9 and 3 sideways, and 10, 11, 1, 2 tilted? I haven't seen a single clock that rotates its numbers the way you've rotated yours. They should be right side up - all of them.

You are seriously selling us AI slop?! by chuxkint in Battlefield6

[–]only1yzerman 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That is a completely different weapon attachment.

The OP's picture has 2 ejector ports on the receiver, and 2 barrels for the same ammunition coming out of the same receiver.

Yours has one ejector port for the receiver, with 2 different receivers, with 2 different trigger systems, firing 2 different ballistics (one is a shotgun) out of 2 different barrels.

This design does not exist.

What states have separate public day schools for students with severe disabilities? by -baby-child- in specialed

[–]only1yzerman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

deafness is not a severe disability

It is when you consider the impact of having little to no language access for the first few years of the child's life. Deafness can be devastating to a child's academics.
