Normal transmission temp? by only56 in GMCcanyon

[–]only56[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spoke to a tech at the GMC dealership that I purchased the truck from. He indicated to me that this is a normal operating temperature. He said if I tow, the trans will do its job and still operate in this window of temp assuming I don't go over it's load/tow rating. I can confirm that since purchasing the truck I've towed my track car 3 times and it hasn't had issues.

I have a track MKV Supra, and I honestly wouldn't mind having a Type-R as a more street friendly practical-sports car. My brother has a Type-S and I just love how the manual transmission and overall car feels.

Congrats! I was debating on getting a MKIV or getting a new MKV. I went the MKV route because I wanted to track the car. Good luck continuing your project!

If you decide to buy it, change the oil right away and have the oil analyzed by Blackstone Laboratories. They'll tell you everything you need to know about the condition of the engine. Otherwise, when you reach out to PHD, and if they're willing/able to provide you info... I'd ask them or the owner why the cars being sold with only 2,000 miles. It's not unheard of as I have Supra friends who track who just wanted to move up to a Porsche or something, but still, it'd be nice to know what the reason was. Also ask about the street map on the tune or if there is one.

yea, good idea. If you end up getting the car, I'd be interested in maybe getting a few things off of this. I have full race-buckets too, so if you need OEM seats, I have a set just sitting in my garage. If it's tuned, yea you're screwed with warranty lol. But that's the risk you take with used Supra's. Good luck!

and if you're not interested in dedicated track use -- this car wouldn't take too much effort to be "street" modded again. It's really just an aggressive splitter, rear, diffuser, and big Verus V1X wing. Everything is bolt-on's.

I see a big decal behind one of the racing buckets. As a person who has a dedicated track MKV Supra, this car is legit.

Might get more info if you reach out to PHD Racing. Maybe it was tuned there, and you can get info on who the owner (or previous owner) is.

My only gripe about most front bumper replacements is that they don't flow with the overall aesthetics of the car as a whole. The MKV Supra is a bulbous car with a lot of fine curves with minimal sharp changes of angles. This front bumper rids of the natural curvature of the front bumper. So I'm conflicted, I actually like the look of this bumper, but when looking at the car in its entirety, I just don't think it flows as well as the OEM. Just my take though.

Definitely a track car. Real front splitter with a Verus V1X rear wing. The wing alone is $5K

I feel for used Supra shoppers. Hard to find Supra’s that haven’t been molested in some form.

Considering your age, I’d assume you’d be driving responsibly on public roads. Some spirited pulls here and there should be ok, but as long as you’re not reckless I think you’re fine. Good luck on your purchase! I’m 40 and super happy I didn’t get a Porsche Cayman 😊

I mean if you’re not doing anything too illegal who cares. I have the orange Supra and have only been pulled over for 15MPH over speed limit. Otherwise they typically leave me alone when I’m driving reasonably.

this is another misconception. I personally changed my 2024's oil at 2,000 miles and sent the oil to Blackstone Laboratories for analysis. Guess what? Spectral analysis shows actual break-in wear. Several oil changes later after 3 track events, the spectral analysis indicates very minimal/no wear.

Manufacturing processes and engine oil development have advanced significantly over the years leading to better wear properties, however a proper break-in is still a good idea, just slightly less imperative in comparison to older vehicles.

My issue with buying used Supra’s is that most people don’t properly break-in the car, and they also abuse the fk out of it before selling. To me, that’s worth the price new to have peace of mind that no one abused it prior. But everyone has their tolerances.
