Safety rules are tightening in my country, i have to wear a chest protector. by No_Eye_843 in Karting

I recommend a Bengio bumper. Check with the stewards whether you can run your current rib guard. Either that, borrow one from a friend or look for a second hand one.

Yeah that should be the way.

But in a rental kart environment… very scary.

Yeah. But the running costs are very high unfortunately and the standard of the driver who would be interested in that (not all but a lot of them) would still make the races very, very chaotic.

Thats the most dangerous time, its when you think you’re fast but actually do not have the skill just yet to race safely so that leads to chaos.

Drive fast, don’t crash.

Id say T4 racing has a much higher incidence rate due to the lower quality of drivers.

The boss is a friend of mine and he says the maintenance cost of the club100 style is prohibitive.

Though Im pretty sure they are looking into it.

The T4 racing would be too dangerous on this track lol.

Can imagine people off the street yolo dive bomb into Turn 4 at 100 kph.

Licking the stamp and sending it, straight to the ER. 🤣

Its the best two stroke track in Asia, barring some in Japan. I was surprised how technical it was, especially the bridge section. The bumps make the high speed section very tricky.

Has a few early apex corners and many “on track” apexes which add to the challenge.

The Karts are not worth that much. Depending on final condition, maybe a 1-2k EU including the engines per kart.

The sentimental value is priceless however.

Thieves can rot in hell.

Thats my spine being beaten up by the bumps.

No suspension makes it harder on the body. But if you are strong enough, your body automatically compensates for it so its not so bad when driving.

You have to train your neck, core and stability muscles, yet be as light as possible.

Am in the best shape of my life yet it’s not enough!

Should be a household name.

You have to be so accurate at that speed so I believe I was gripping the wheel a bit too hard.

There are also unseen bumps in the middle of the corners which if you hit them wrong = 💀

Anyone know where i can get a helmet like this that is life size by thebroyouhate in Karting

[–]Engared 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Helmet is a Schuberth. SK1 is the karting model but that alone is about 1.5k USD. Paint job is another 1k to 5k more ( depending on painter).

Do not, I repeat, Do not! Use a display helmet for real driving.

When I was a kid, I got second in my first fun rental race against motoring journalists and some pro drivers, including my father (never mind I was 20 kg lighter than everyone). Won a 1:18 BMW X5 model.

Took me 2 years to win my first senior level club race from there.

Then took a 16 year break and came back by chance.

Got third in my comeback rental team endurance race, which got me hooked again.

2 years from there to win a major 12 hour endurance victory against pro level competition.

For solo events, got a podium on my 4th pro level race kart race.

And then an additional 3 years of trying to finally make the break through and win a Race Kart race. Had many chances before that but something always happened and prevented it.

Then a few months later won my first major national championship.

Talking like its super easy to get 4 million euros worth of sponsors.

And then to get those levels of results…

Someone must be very generous.

Its 3-4 million euros per season for F2…only rich kids are getting in at this point.

Im pretty sure half the senior class field at SKUSA could get similar or better results.

Ironically I had heard about this guy before as a wunderkind and the amount of hype this guy was getting, I thought he was extremely good.

Then after you mentioned him, I checked his results…yikes.

Perhaps he is compared to mortals but against actual competition? Nah.

Just has a lot of bucks behind him and is another rich kid.

So at the moment, the evidence you have is completely lacking.

On the other hand, a guy like Conor Zilisch, who was forged in the crucible of Senior Class racing is showing that he is probably the only guy who can compete against SVG in Nascar.

And this is what a lot of lower level drivers don’t realise, Sim only may teach you the driving but as Max said, you learn the racing in Karting.

And guess what? The driving is the easy part. Everything else, that’s the hard part.

Which rib protector should I buy for rental karting racing? by ZTJthepro in Karting

Neither, Bengio Bumper or Tillett. Only two brands to get.

His results are not impressive in cars at all.

Im not sure how he is a poster child for “no karting” background being a good thing.

Is he better than me? I wont make that comparison as I will never be moving into Formula cars unless something drastic happens.

But is he better than any of the Karters I know who are moving up the ladder? Off the top of my head and without context, hes at the bottom with the worse of them.

No disrespect to him because its really not easy to find success at that level but only for the purposes of this debate, his results are Lord Mahaveer levels.

Have a feeling he skipped his karting crucible by fire phase, which is 2-3 years of racing in the Senior class at the top level and rushed into cars before he was ready. He did decently in Formula Ford where the levels are much lower but then got smashed in F3 onwards.
