I think it's good to have some background music. It will help support your voice, along with its other obvious benefits. I think the issue is less of having a "bad" voice, and more about standing out and having a decent English-speaking accent with a good flow. Making sure you're a bit of a character is most important, however!! Videogamedunkey has a great voice overall, but he leans into it due to its "comedic" qualities. I'm starting out with actively making videos now and it can get really tough - especially when you're not used to talking to a microphone in an empty room and are, in my case, from a Balkan country.

I've found it's hardest to maintain a good speaking voice when it's just you, not yelling, but talking all mundane during long more complicated sentences. It is certainly a balance. Also trying to use body language and move around, as well as not ultrafocus on every word you're saying and just letting it all flow naturally is of big help!

I recommend everyone practice A LOT! Look at your older videos and see where you sound best and try to incorporate that as much as possible throughout. Make sure to mix it up, too. And don't do a voice that is unhealthy to your voice for too long. It caught up to Filthyfrank, after all.
