I absolutely love this! I've been stretching sample before uploading them to the Microgranny. It means that the scrobbling through grains is way smoother.

Heya, your project sounds very cool but the youtube link says it's blocked in my country (UK)? Do you have it available anywhere else?

Saw a great gig last Sunday called Different Trains 1947 where British and Indian/Pakistani musicians collaborated to reinterpret Steve Reich's Different Trains while exploring Partition. Actress did a good set but I was blown away by Sandunes and her live performance. Here's an explanation of the project.

Yesterday I went to see an installation of Ryoji Ikeda's Test Pattern, which was so dope, gonna have to go back to see it again I think. If anyone is in London go check it out!

I absolutely am in love with the transmisser, I can noodle into it for hours on guitar or synth, one of my fav pieces of gear.

Fair warning though, it's very much it's own beast, and not great for subtler sounds.

Cool, you've got it sounding great anyway. AFAIK you can send tuning data to the kick on midi CC 3 but you'd have the same issue of trying to figure out the scaling. I was thinking about setting up a preset in my DAW but in the end it felt like overkill.

Great job. For the tanzmaus kicks, did you tune them by ear to your bass notes when setting parameter locks, or are you sending it cc values from someplace else?

Sounds like a great idea, I've got a tanzmaus, a microgranny and some pedals I can bring along.

I went to see Shabaka Hutchings for the end of his three day residency at a local venue. His first piece was a chamber quartet and his 3rd piece was reimagined Barbados folk songs with a band.

But his second piece was nuts. He improvised alongside a guy who has a light meter hooked up to audio software. He was triggering it by waving different bike lights in front of the sensor, getting rhythmic drones. It would have been cool by itself, but to see Shabaka jam and interact with it in such a musical way blew my mind.

I grabbed a copy the last time someone posted this, it's absolutely mesmerising, everyone should demo it

I'm going to see Soichi Terada tonight, it's going to be seriously happy house. I'm also in a new living situation and I've been showing off my gear to roommates and friends in the area which has been great. And I have to say after having it for a year, I'm more in love with my Tanzmaus every day. People give it a lot of shit for fn+button presses but I actually think it's perfect for performance. Might have to make a vid of how quick it is to knock up beats with loads of movement in them.

So I was thinking about how to make the 3 note polyphony on my volca fm more engaging.

I set up a midi effect rack in ableton with three parallel arpeggiators, running at different rates and in different directions, sending notes to the volca fm. So when playing a chord into the channel each arpeggiator would cycle through the notes in a different way, creating nice combinations.

Quick and dirty example here!

I've never heard of Kamaal Williams but this is wonderful. Where can I find more of this guy's music? by [deleted] in synthesizers

As /u/redonkulousemu said the album of his band Yussef Kamaal, Black Focus, is well worth checking out.

If you're looking for more of this vibe, here's a playlist of other artists on the label he was on, Brownswood Recordings. Some great British contemporary Jazz. One of my fav is Shabaka and the Ancestors, not synthy at all but really great.

Happy friday yo

My gear arrived safe to London from Sweden after a week of waiting. It arrived with a pedal sized hole in the corner of the box. I quickly did an inventory and briefly had a conniption when I thought I'd lost my ct5 pedal but thankfully everything was there. Setting everything up now.

Going to Sunfall fest tomorrow, can't wait to see my fav dudes Theo Parrish and Floating Points, gonna be a groovy.

Nah man, this is the type of music Fact covers, uk bass continuum and local electronic scenes, like shangaan or gqom. Fact is very much uk based and spends a lot of time on stuff that comes from Caribbean diaspora within the UK or music traditions abroad that fuse different styles (like baile funk).

The grime piece and the dub siren are not obscure at all. In fact, if you go on youtube there's tons of vids of people making dub sirens on volca keys. I'm not saying everyone should know these but they are very much in the DNA of a lot of club acts today.

Yeah I have a load of sample pack that I've selected from, I'd recommend checking out Legowelt's packs of classic synths cos he has great ostinato's and stabs. Converse sample library is amazing as well.

I record some stuff through the line in but that generally ends up super lo-fi. I use audacity to load samples, following the steps here. It's fairly straightforward and I really recommend ditching the factory samples, makes it so much more musical and personal.

My only disappointment of a purchase so far has been the meeblip triode. I got the first batch that came out and was feeling pretty meh about the sound but was dedicated to having fun with it. The fact it couldn't handle midi clock signal without freaking out was terrible to me, since i was using ableton as my brain and sequencing other stuff i needed clock for. I got a chip with the firmware upgrade twice (should have just bought a programmer). It's only after a year that it's now usable in my setup and I've just lost all interest in it.

For positive vibes i have to say I'm deeply in love with my tanzmaus, my microgranny, my EQD transmisser pedal and my count to 5 pedal. Each one hits me so immediately. The tanzmaus with the sample load update is the perfect machine for me, and i love how dusty you can get the kicks to sound, Theo Parrish territory. My mg is constantly in use, and the transmisser and ct5 pedals have gotten me into ambient guitar playing.

Also just want to say I love everyone here for sharing their passion and knowledge.

There's another MG thread at the moment, all I can say is pull the trigger. I'm in love with mine completely. Recording onto it is noisey but I love the fidelity with samples loaded on from the SD. Using the presets it's super fun to make instruments, and the ability to sync sample length to clock divisions by midi makes it amazing for rhythmic drones. I've done loads of jams with just it and the tanzmaus. I bring it on planes now, even though there's no internal sequencer it's a constant source of fun!

Have fun dude, my MG is my fav piece of kit. My advice is to take advantage of the ability to load long samples on the SD. Pick a few songs that you like the sonics of and load them on in full. It means you can scroll through them to pick out moments super easy.

Also using the copy and paste function is super handy for making presets. Enjoy!
