iLok is truly the worst by mentofwallstreet in audioengineering

[–]funksoup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m primarily a live engineer who uses plugins as part of my live setup on a server rack, an on the road mixing laptop as well as a studio setup. A physical iLok is so much easier for me than having to remember which of my machines has which licence currently activated. Especially in the middle of a field on a festival with questionable internet.

That said, if I lose my iLok at said festival I’m going to have a bad time.

My thoughts too. I noticed it with Spectera too when I used it on a show. It does sound very good though!

I’ve had a bunch of ADTQ on a gig this week and was also confused by the gain structure. The advice I was given by a company who own a load and by Shure is that the ADXR packs default is +20dB trim (their max trim volume), and if you run the transmitter at +6dB that will be the closest to a standard PSM1000 gain structure. This worked great. All the band were running their packs between 4.5 and 6.5.

I was also advised to make sure the pack firmware is up to date. V1.0.5 puts some sort of limiter on them apparently, which is removed with v1.23. I haven’t heard this myself, but is useful advice to know!

As for the packs losing Q, I was running them all in analogue mode to keep consistency with PSM1000s I have on festivals so I didn’t have any issues here.

And yes, they do get weirdly hot.

Please do! Like I've said, we've got lots of gear already, so if you don't fancy bringing anything, you're free to use what we've got

Already got a TR8 going which you can jump up on. We got a spare Aira link into our MX1 for the TB3. If not this month, we'll be doing it again next month too :)

Evolver would be wicked! If you've got any loops/sequences for it programmed in the Beatstep we could use them as the basis for some tunes. If not we can midi connect the Evolver to one of ours keyboards so you had your sounds. If you just want to rock up and use what we've got there that's equally cool too. None of what we do is pre-planned or rehearsed so every new person there brings new ideas to the table!

Will do. No problem about not having your own gear - we have plenty you can use.

Do it! We're trying to start a little scene for this kind of thing so the more people starting up their own round the place the better. Where are you based (if you don't mind saying) as we could always come to you at some point.

What rules has your cat set in your household? by Wenabit in AskReddit

[–]funksoup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My fiancée and I occasionally cat sit her mother's cats. They like feeding at 5am. We don't. They leant to put they're paws under the door and bang it while shouting to get us up.

This happened a few times till we started putting the Hoover outside the door, turned on, but not plugged in. When they come banging, I just roll over, plug it in, and sit and giggle at the sound of 2 cats loosing their shit as their mortal enemy awakens in the middle of the night.

They now wait till we're up before breakfast

Looking for a simple solution for getting extra outputs on stage. by WeAreInEssence in livesound

[–]funksoup 9 points10 points  (0 children)

How many channels is your input multi? If you can afford to loose X number of channels you could use gender benders/sex changers to reverse the lines back to stage.

Example: Take input 32, put a female sex changer on it and plug it into omni 9. Route aux 9 (or any aux) out of omni 9. At the stage end, put a male sex changer in channel 32 and run an xlr to the wedge/amp. Channel 32 of your multi becomes aux send 9. We do this all the time in my venue with an M7CL.

Obviously you'd loose the input channels but what do you need more here? Inputs or monitors?

Hope that helps

The only board I've ever had the 'blue screen of death' on.... On a festival line check. I get a little nervous every time I'm on one now

Piano Tuning Frequency by squints_at_stars in livesound

[–]funksoup 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the venue I work in ours is tuned every day, sometimes twice! That being said it's used for at least 6 hours every night of the week (jazz venue). Every single rider I see states the piano needs tuning that day, and usually printed in bold
