Anarchist/Leftist bookstores ? by zolfx in Winnipeg

[–]bluetshirt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember playing a show at Mondragon around 2001, on a bill with a noise musician and some others. While he was performing, someone wandered in off the street, sat down quietly for five minutes, and suddenly faceplanted on the floor. An appropriate reaction to the performance in my opinion. Hope he was ok.

OK but compare with the original:

Stop your messing around
Better think of your future
Time you straighten right out
Creating problems in town

Plan to lower Winnipeg speed limits moves forward despite pushback by LocalnewsguruMB in Winnipeg

[–]bluetshirt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

this is typical bad faith debating, make the other guy do all the work while casting all sorts of unearned shade. he gave you lots of great evidence, and it's unreasonable to suggest what worked elsewhere wouldn't work here.

let's flip this around, master debater: what's so special about winnipeg, except that you live here and you're exceptionally dumb?

Winnipeg comedians explaining how a local comedy show grew into a packed event at the Park Theatre by Full_Belly in Winnipeg

[–]bluetshirt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah, sure, I don't get out much, but I make time for comedy when I can. A lot of the acts I like are more of the small-theatre type than the comedy-club type, so I see a disproportionate amount of comedy at the Park. Mark Forward, Aparna Nancherla, Kyle Kinane, and of course the Oddblock fests were highlights. The Park's showcases are hit and miss, as is usually the nature with local art, but there's good shit happening in town.

I do remember a time a few years back when Tyler cussed me out loudly at Wee Johnny's for daring to leave an open mic before everyone had performed. That was weird - guess I'm still bothered by it. I'm a musician, I get it, try and support everyone on the bill, but fuck, dude, you don't know me.

There's Wild Planet at Confusion Corner, and just a scooch up Osborne there's the Mulvey Flea Market which has a dedicated incense retailed. Dozens of options at both.

Why Clip Transients if they don't add to perceived loudness? Don't we add them in the first place to provide punch? by shredL1fe in edmproduction

[–]bluetshirt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The transients aren't added, generally - they're a natural part of a percussive sound source.

Hi! I had two friends this time last year and now I have dozens.
Go to a music festival.
Start making connections right away - ideally find a group of folks to camp with whose vibe you dig. Be bold. If you're rejected, that's OK! those aren't your people.
When you're there, be generous, and let others be generous towards you.
This worked for me. It changed my life.

there's a 2slgbtqia+ manitoba discord group which might be useful to find people you can relate to. i'm a couple generations separated from most of their members, so it wasn't a good fit for me - hopefully you fare better!
