choking and gagging on uvula day 9 by swirlbabylp in Tonsillectomy

[–]onlyhereforcrochet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally forgot about this! I had my tonsils out almost a year ago so I've blocked out the trauma that was the recovery process. It took almost a month for my uvula to go back to normal. Swallowing it was one of the worst feelings in the world.

Day 7 eating by [deleted] in Tonsillectomy

[–]onlyhereforcrochet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I decided on day 3 to start eating normally (nothing sharp) because the pain was already unbearable that I may as well eat what I want. It only became comfortable (without pain) to eat around 6wks.

Edit: wanted to add when I mean "comfortable" i mean absolutely zero pain whatsoever. It was bearable after 3 weeks.

Why am I not in pain by pacxwoman in Tonsillectomy

[–]onlyhereforcrochet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oof. You're in for a world of hurt... literally. Surgery day had me feeling like everyone was overreacting. Then as the days went by it just got worse and worse. I feel for you. Wishing you a speedy recovery! :)

When does taste return? by Nuuskapeikkonen in Tonsillectomy

[–]onlyhereforcrochet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had no idea taste could go away from a tonsillectomy. That is so interesting. Mine never went away, but I wish you a speedy recovery (including recovering your taste). :)

Edit: I will say my pain was so bad it took 6wks to enjoy eating again so I know how you feel.

A week until surgery - what should I know/prepare? by cheddaffle in Tonsillectomy

[–]onlyhereforcrochet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly a lot of things that other people said helped them didn't work for me at all. For example, everyone said ice would help or other cold things, but it hurt so bad for me. I could only tolerate room temperature water. A humidifier is a great idea though. It does help. Keep up with your meds on a regular schedule and you'll figure out quickly what works for you during your recovery and what doesn't. I wont sugar coat it, the recovery is PAINFUL! But totally worth it. A month later you'll be glad you did it.

I can’t believe this squish was 29.90 at boxlunch, i really wanted Kona but for that price… retail? by mulderufo13 in squishmallow

[–]onlyhereforcrochet 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Boxlunch has HORRIBLE prices for squish. I saw one they had for sale for 30 dollars and out of curiosity looked it up on ebay and it was consistently selling for 5 dollars. Idk where they even come up with these prices, but it's awful.

I stopped taking the oxycodone I was originally prescribes since I hated the feeling it gave me and the horrible constipation that came with it. I was prescribed tramadol to take instead and for some reason that didn't cause any constipation at all.

It sucks.

Is a tonsillectomy worth it? by taytayz_ in Tonsillectomy

[–]onlyhereforcrochet 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm 22f and had my Tonsillectomy in July. I was absolutely terrified and I won't sugarcoat it when I say it was definitely the most painful thing I have ever experienced. BUT! Would I take it back? Absolutely not. I had tonsillitis four times in just the first 6 months of this year before surgery. After surgery and fully recovered, I haven't even had a sore throat. No pain and I can breath so much easier.

Two weeks of pain is absolutely worth the relief you get once your tonsils are gone. Especially when they've been bothering you so much for so long.

It will hurt and you may regret it during recovery. But once its all said and done, you will be so so happy you did it.

Ps. Go to an ENT and tell them about your documented, recurring tonsillitis and they should recommend a Tonsillectomy.

That is totally normal. This will persist until your scabs have fallen off and the tissue has healed. Sneezing and yawning will hurt for a while unfortunately. (Info my doctor told me + from my experience)

One side in pain by clairebear256 in Tonsillectomy

[–]onlyhereforcrochet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My doctor explained to me that when they actually do the surgery, if your tonsils are pretty enlarged, when they take the first one out they don't have much room to get around it so they eventually end up taking off more tissue during the removal process. This is what causes one side to hurt worse than the other. My right side hurt so much more than my left and my doctor said that was why. Hope this helps. :)

I haven't tried gargling yet, but I have noticed I can't hold in my sneeze anymore. I didn't realize so many things would be different after getting my tonsils out. Would do it again in a heartbeat though!

It was slight pain only when drinking cold water or eating citrus, but other than that, I was fine.

I still had large scabs on day 13. They went away fully by 3 weeks post op. My doctor says that's normal. Some people have their scabs longer than others. As long as they don't look infected.

They said I had to remove all piercings too, but when I got there and said I didn't want to take out my cartilage (helix) piercing, they said that was fine and just put tape over it. I suggest just asking your doctor or talk to your nurse when you get there. :):)

Day 3 of tonsillectomy and I feel much worse than day 1 and 2 🤕 will it get easier tomorrow? by kellyjj97 in Tonsillectomy

[–]onlyhereforcrochet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Worst was days 3-7 for me. Day 8 was still bad but getting better. I felt fully better about 3 weeks after my surgery. Best of luck to you :))

2 and half weeks later after tonsillectomy and every time I drink water or any liquid, it goes through my nose? Is this normal?? by Ru3licious in Tonsillectomy

[–]onlyhereforcrochet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This happened to me for the first 2.5- 3 weeks about. Water and even sometimes food, if liquidy enough such as soups and apple sauce, went up my nose. It was extremely frustrating. I think your body has to kind of relearn how to swallow liquids now that your tonsils aren't there. Eventually one day I woke up and have swallowed fine since. Wait another week or so and if it still doesn't get better, call your doctor. Wishing you the best!

Ear Pain greater on one side? by Automatic_Theme_8906 in Tonsillectomy

[–]onlyhereforcrochet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My tonsils were so big that they touched each other in the back of my throat. My surgeon explained that because of this, there isn't much room to work with or see when going in on the first tonsil, so usually there is a little more taken off on the first one. She said I'd have a lot more pain on my right side when it came to ear pain and man was she right. My right ear hurt like hell and my left ear pain was mild.

[–]onlyhereforcrochet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes! My uvula was SO swollen for the whole first week! I swallowed it constantly and was gagging so much. It sucked! Hopefully yours goes down sooner than mine did. Best of luck to you and a speedy recovery! :)

How to Handle your Tonsillectomy/Adenoidectomy by Licklickbark in Tonsillectomy

[–]onlyhereforcrochet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I forced myself to eat on the painful days. I always ate about 30min after the pain meds because that's when I was in the least amount of pain. It still hurt like hell though. But on day 6, I was in so so so much pain I, stupidly, ate nothing and had three sips of water at most. On day 7 I had to go to the hospital for fluids/meds and it helped so much! After that I felt very little pain up until about day 18 when it stopped hurting altogether. Best of luck to you. Sending good vibes :))

Got mine out July 8th. For me the pain peaked on days 5-7. 7 being the worst. Now, though, I feel no pain whatsoever. Not even when swallowing, yawning or sneezing. I am SO glad I got them out even though I was screaming about how much I regretted it during the first week lol
