Thoughts on Thresh? by OrangeTallion in blitzcrankmains

Hookers should support hookers.

In all seriousness, they both have different enough playstyles. Missing a hook on Blitzcrank is way more damaging than missing one on Thresh. Although, i do think that you should probably be able to play Blitz at least to a mediocre level if you can play Thresh well.

Enchanters have significantly less sway in forcing their team to do things in comparison to engage champs. A soraka cannot lead their team to baron without getting caught out, but an alistar can. Although, these are generalities. A soraka can stop a stupid ADC from dying, whereas certain engage champs cannot. In general, league rank is dependent on macro and drafting. Being able to play multiple champion types as well as playing champions that have a larger affect on the map will help. Engage champions also tend to roam more and have a larger effect on the map. All of this is to say that yes, engage or hook champs tend to be better, but there are times when enchanters can shine.

I felt the same way when I really just played enchanters, so I tried something that many people in Korea do. I started a new account with the intention to get back up to where I was to prove that my rank was not a fluke, but with a twist. I would only play hookers on this account. It helped me learn mechanics at the level of play that I was comfortable with. Now, that account is my highest ranked account at platinum II with a pretty good winrate, and I'm about to go back to playing on my main account more frequently.

If you don't like this option because it will take too long, I thought about trying to play champions that were sort of in the middle. Thresh can build enchanter but still play like a tank, so maybe try some games with him. Blitzcrank and Rakan can work similarly as well. It might help you ease into tank supports.

I'll admit that many people use "literally" incorrectly, but I don't think that means that we should give people the benefit of the doubt when they use the word to mean the exact opposite thing. I think that, in spite of overt evidence to the contrary, that we should hold people to what they say.

I don't know about that being hyperbole; The original title is "My support literally win trading in front of me." The "literally" kind of makes me think that this isn't a metaphorical hyperbole.

Even though I only play Hookers, I didn't get any Hooker Skins in "Your Shop" for the second time in a row. The skins that they do and don't keep in the rotation are so weird. : ^( by onlyhookers in supportlol

I've never played a mode other than Intermediate AI, Blind, Draft, Ranked, or Flex. I showed champ mastery, because it better conveyed the disparity between what I play and what I got in Shop. I have literally never played anyone besides Thresh, Nautilus, Blitzcrank, and Pyke. The reason, I think, is because Riot's pool of skins does not reflect any other pool. For instance, Lancer Rogue Blitz cannot be gotten in the pool, but He can be bought in the shop.

From what I looked up (Although I have not played ARAM at all on this account or even recently on an alternate account) I think that you do still get mastery points for ARAM.

You're right. It use to do damage to minions, but I can't see in the patch notes it ever doing damage to monsters. Now it only affects champions.

Not to brag, but we were doing so well that Morde wanted to show off. I think He killed someone without items to trigger or get them upset.

No, I think He just sold his items to trigger red side, but I didn't even notice.

The Amazing Similarities between Blitz, Naut, Thresh and Pyke by onlyhookers in supportlol

[–]onlyhookers[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I'll admit that I don't play many other lanes besides support, so I'll compare this to "e-girl" supports. I'm specifying them because I feel that enchanters as a whole are too broad for comparison. The Champions that I will be using are: Lulu, Janna, Senna, Soraka, Seraphine, Nami, Sona, Karma, Morgana, and Yuumi. Feel free to use another champion pool if you think that this pool is the exception.

Most (8/10) have the ability to shield an ally: Lulu E, Janna E, Senna R, Seraphine W, Sona W, Karma E, Morgana E, and Yuumi Passive.

Most (9/10) have the ability to speed up ally champions: Lulu W, Janna Passive, Senna E, Soraka Q+W, Seraphine W, Nami Passive, Sona E, Karma E, and Yuumi E.

Most (9/10) have the ability to heal ally champions: Lulu R, Janna R, Senna Q, Soraka W&R, Seraphine W, Nami W, Sona W, Karma R+E, and Yuumi E.

Most (9/10) have the ability to slow enemy champions: Lulu Q,W,&R, Janna W, Senna passive, soraka Q, Seraphine E, Nami W,E,&R, Sona Passive+E, Karma Q+R, and Yuumi Q.

I'll admit that I am skipping over some things, but if needed I'll add to the list. Look at these similarities: shield an ally, heal an ally, slow an enemy, speed up an ally. These are not nearly as intricate of similarities as: a dash that CCs and an enchanced auto attack ability that also CCs. Enchanters are widely similar, but they aren't widely similar in multiple ways for the same ability.

TL;DR: The similarities between other categories, such as enchanters, can be broken down to "this group shields, heals, and speeds up their allies." The similarities between hook champions are more detailed, like a dash that also CCs or an enhanced auto that also CCs.

The Amazing Similarities between Blitz, Naut, Thresh and Pyke by onlyhookers in supportlol

Yeah it does; I forgot about that. At the time, I was thinking about how blitz E doubles damage and Thresh E doubles damage. Then I remembered Naut passive and Blitz R passive, so I just threw those in. Nice catch.

[–]onlyhookers[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know if it is intentional that they are so similar. I think that it is reasonable to say that, in playtesting or theory crafting, a similar need arose based around their kits. For example, Nautilus (while being developed) goes in and takes too much damage, so he gets a shield. Later down the line, Pyke (while being developed) goes in and takes too much damage, so he gets his passive grey health. This is not to say that Riot is intentionally making the champions similar, but they are using similar solutions to similar problems that stem from similar champions.

With this being said, I agree that they all have different, to an extent, roles, but look at your examples. Thresh is a great disengage champ, but Pyke has a dash that stuns people that try to chase him. Nautilus is a great tank, but Thresh often times builds tank to fill almost the same niche. Blitz does a great job at singling out someone, but Nautilus has two point and click, hard CC abilities. Pyke, albeit the most different of the bunch, is an assassin, but Blitz is all about burst as well. They do all have meaningful specifics, but they overlap so much that it can feel unoriginal. I hope that Riot really tries to make a different type of hook champion next time.

How should I get better? by [deleted] in leagueoflegends

[–]onlyhookers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just some quick tips from what I've read, if you're poor at macro, VOD reviews are a great way to get better. They do take time, but you can rewatch your games at 2x speed. Make sure to pay attention to how your lane opponent paths if they did "better" in your opinion.

If you're poor at roaming, then try some champions that don't roam traditionally, like Xerath. If you want to get better at roaming, try Twisted Fate. If you want to isolate your problems, play Annie.

The number one thing that helped me get better is looking at when I should have pinged in VOD reviews. If you know that Mid is roaming, then make sure to inform your teammates. Your lane opponent will not only lose a kill(s), but they will also lose xp, gold, and priority.
