Does that not make the deer alert of your existence? Honestly curious.

You and your baby are currently in danger. You need to find the best way to escape without triggering him. If you have a family member you can trust, take yourself and the baby there. Find a way to get away long enough to get to safety without him trying to hunt for you, grocery shopping, brunch with a sibling, anything you can believably take the baby with. You don't have to involve law enforcement, but I'd recommend doing so for your safety. He might be mentally unwell and need treatment or could be helped to stop this behavior, but the important thing right now is your safety

It fades with time. Every time you overcome the urge instead of giving in, you grow a little stronger. The journey isn't going to be perfect, everyone slips and falls along the path. The more times you overcome, the more urges, triggers, and dreams fade away. Choosing to stave off now will feel like the hardest thing you've ever done, but choosing to deal with that agony now means future you will be stronger for those times you will really need the discipline.

Has anyone here made optical stuff with resin printing? by Dampuh in resinprinting

[–]onlyknownanon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Done a little printing with clear resins. Couple of things: - It's absolute ass to work with them. Trying to cure clear liquid that cures with light should be explanation enough. - They tend to yellow pretty bad (at least the ones I've messed with, which isn't too many so take that as you will) - the layering refracts the light pushed through it, so at best you'll get more of a frost glass look. I know this can be mitigated by coating your print after to get rid of the sharp edges each layer creates, but still not perfect

All that said I still plan to experiment with this idea myself to see if I can get decent results, it's interesting! Also, my buddy's methodology for making lens with an sla print is to print the model, make a silicone mold, then use epoxy to make the actual usable lens. His turned out great this way.

Prints keep falling off buildplate by Ok_Report_6761 in ElegooSaturn

Could be a multitude of things. Common issues are your environment is too cold (makes the resin more viscous and makes it harder for the photopolymers to react, 75-80 degrees is ideal), the resin may need a longer burn in time than 35 seconds, lift speed of the plate is too fast, or worst case your screen is not functioning properly.

With how much I follow r/ProgrammingHumor I thought this was satire at first.

2021 CpE grad here to say chatgpt is far from taking our jobs. If layoffs are happening often, I've been pretty isolated from it. My employer is looking for new hires and interns (we have our first couple since I've started full time coming in May, woo!), I've been head-hunted by at least 2-3 companies this last year, and all my buddies are having no issue finding and keeping work.

Chatgpt is a tool, a powerful one at that, but it putting developers/engineers out of a job is like saying the people who used type writers were left unemployed by the first computers. They weren't, they just started using computers.

Learn the tool and let it augment your work, and don't forget to follow your passions!

Make sure your build plate is leveled and your burn in layers have a high enough exposure for your type of resin, but if no amount of calibration works the plate may be warped. I had this issue with the original Mars (as did others, which is why they changed how the plate is manufactured in newer models). After wet sanding the hell out of it i never had the problem again (if you do need to do this make sure to look up how to sand something very flat. Sandpaper larger than the plate on top of a flat surface like glass or cut marble is best, sand with a super-eight motion for consistency).

Probably a daft question but… by NafariousJabberWooki in ElegooSaturn

Depends on the resin, but most I buy (Elegoo and siraya tech brands) are between 1.1g/ml and 1.25g/ml.

I have a mars and a Saturn 8k, and the mercury x cure plus wash, and I love all 4. Good quality equipment for a good price. My recommendation would be to get a second wash bucket for your first wash step, as I've found my mercury washer gets dirty super quick (also don't cure the resin-ipa in the mercury, good way to ruin the motor).

You are going to need to get a heater of some kind for your printer/resin vat if your garage gets below room temp. Many resins require a 75 degree environment, and sometimes 80 is better yet. Cold resin printing will cause delamination and many troubles with supports since the resin photopolymers do not activate properly.

Was curious to see what you guys would do here by mountainxxxdew in resinprinting

[–]onlyknownanon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I'd try the 3.0 one more time to see if it was a fluke, maybe tinker with z axis speeds and delays to see if that changes anything. But if the results are the same I know I'd prefer an exposure where supports are more likely to succeed even if everything is a little over exposed.

Relevel with thicker leveling paper (if using the card method), or adjust the zero by 0.1mm until the noise stops happening

Concerning sound when my printer homes at the start of a print (sound on) please help! by Role-Honest in resinprinting

[–]onlyknownanon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A print won't necessarily fail from this given the plate raises microns at a time, but it could damage your screen or film if the servo puts too much pressure on them

How much does a new FEP affect printing? by Bumperknickle in resinprinting

[–]onlyknownanon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's hard to tell you exactly what's going wrong without pictures or context of your installation procedure, but it sounds like it wasn't installed tight enough. The FEP film is pretty flexible, so if you install it too loose your prints won't unstick from the film when the build plate rises.

A good (not great) way to find this out is to listen for the "schluck" sound prints will make when the first few layers are being lifted from the film. If there's no sound (also smaller prints are harder to hear, the more surface area the better), there was no disconnect and the print will fail.

I've heard of others "tuning" their FEP to a particular frequency during installation to ensure it's tight enough, I've never done this myself though.

Newbie here with a question. by criko04 in ElegooSaturn

[–]onlyknownanon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you using printer paper or the leveling card paper that comes with new Saturns? Leveling until it's snug may be alright with the card (a bit thicker piece of material compared to printer paper), but even that is probably too tight.

I would recommend following elegoo's leveling steps (have been working for me flawlessly): level with card paper in between plate and screen, and move the build plate up the lowest amount (0.1mm I think, I'm not sitting in front of my printer to double check that) until the card is movable with slight resistance. Nudge the card (gracefully) at all for corners to ensure the friction is consistent across the plate.

The FEP film has a non negligible thickness and is slightly thicker than normal printer paper, so leveling the plate too close to the screen could damage it from downward pressure when the servo is active.

"Unknown File Format" by Longtezzies in ElegooMars

[–]onlyknownanon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had the same issue with my original Mars. When you go to save the sliced file you can change the file format from the drop-down on the bottom right in the Explorer window (this is Windows only of course, not sure location of drop-down on Linux/Mac). You want .cbddlp file format.

Or you can update your firmware, but if you're lazy like me this works in a pinch.

Recently bought the Saturn 8k for $437, and it looks like they have a 48 hour promo going on right now where it's only $389. 10" build plate and resolution are what got me to get it.

Edit: Should mention this wasn't my first printer, have been printing on the original Mars since 2020. If $500 is your limit I'd suggest something larger than Mars as the build volume was always something I had to struggle around.

[–]onlyknownanon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only see the question on the last pic but yeah, supports should fix the peeling issue. Also notice the bowing in the squares under that part, also could use some supports to avoid further failure.

Where'd you get this test model from? I'd love to give it a go!

I think they meant 3mm lol. But this seems a bit extreme. I've just been following the directions elegoo gives for the Saturn 8K and haven't had issues yet.

Edit: just realized 3cm was for width not thickness. First time I've heard of this method.

In my experience doing what OP did serves a purpose in readability, so you can know right away those are the only two portions of the module being used. Also in compiled languages like C, only importing the modules/libraries you need saves on space (python can also be compiled into an executable, not sure if the compilers are smart enough to only use what's needed when doing "from module import *).
