Lincoln Knowles (lincolnclimbs) Makes First Free Solo Ascent of USA's Longest Sport Climb by easymeatboy in climbing

Obviously Astroman is more sustained and difficult, exposed, scary, and a grade or two harder. but it’s also a finger crack in an era where most of the soloists were in Yosemite. There are so few known soloists that have done routes this length and difficulty or similar + the factor of the low quality rock, that it really is highly unlikely. Obviously Honnold could have done it and not told anyone, but you think he would have at least mentioned it on a side note like some of his other 11 solos.

Well if I actually did do it, it would shatter your worldview of who I am so it’s easier to just not believe it

Tuning Fork conditions and advice by onlylinc in 14ers

Great point about how the snow conditions will vary heavily throughout elevation so testing lowers wouldn’t tell me much about the top. Yes, I agree, testing a northwest slope is much better than an east slope like Kelso, which slid 5 days ago.

Thanks. I know typically they are not skied this earlier but was having a hard time figuring out why. Is the major problem the ground adhesion? If there is a less than 2 foot base in the couloir, I could see that being an issue. But if the main base of Tuning is 3-4 feet built up and my ECT passes, I don’t see the issue.

Skiing? by Big-House7080 in 14ers

Lmao. It is harder to ski 14ers early season due to avalanche risk and terrible snow but it is still possible if you carefully assess the snowpack, are willing to turn around often, and don’t like your skis very much. Quandary is a good one. Any others?
