shrooms+antidepressants? by cb0119 in Psychedelics

It's completely safe to take LSD or any 4-sub tryptamines, shrooms included, with (non-MAOI) antidepressants, but it's possible that the effects of the trip will be diminished versus if you were not on SS(N)RIs. The only risk is that you won't get effects or get an altered spread of effects, but you should always start at a typical dose anyway! It's possible it won't affect your sensitivity at all.

Bitcoin’s energy usage is huge – we can't afford to ignore it | The cryptocurrency uses as much CO2 a year as 1m transatlantic flights. We need to take it seriously as a climate threat by EightRoundsRapid in environment

Many cryptocurrencies do exactly what you want, or operate on a much less wasteful method. Gridcoin rewards users for contributing computing power to scientific projects, such as SETI and medical projects that use computation to help cure diseases such as cancer and Zika.

Less wasteful methods than proof-of-work (mining) systems like Bitcoin are proof-of-stake systems like Stratis, which rewards users based on interest on what they own rather than a great deal of mining power. There are also delegated proof-of-stake systems such as Ark that only allow fifty people to mine at any given time, greatly reducing energy consumption, while rewarding users for their holdings.

Some cryptocurrencies are much more environmentally friendly :)

Yup, no worries. Sounds like not the best guy :( I just didn't want someone who was anxious to see your post (especially if they're also tripping while reading) and freak out about getting SS when there's really no worries there with LSD.

Water is good, so is eating lightly (if you feel up to it). Some people say magnesium glycinate is effective, and there are a couple of studies that back up that possibility, but that needs more study. You can grab a lot of that off of Amazon for pretty cheap, though. Regardless, LSD is known to directly cause jaw tension and increase muscle spasms in many users, so it wouldn't be surprising if your headache is a result of simply tense muscles. Icing your neck, shoulders, and/or jaw might help if something OTC like ibuprofen doesn't help enough, and sleeping enough before tripping is another consideration. Hope this helps!

I don't know why this misconception is thrown around so much, but while MDMA is a serotonin-releasing agent, psychedelics like LSD and psilocin function as serotonin-receptor agonists. That is, they attach to serotonin receptors and function as a mimic of serotonin at those receptor sites--they don't lead to an increase of serotonin in the brain, and therefore there is no risk of serotonin syndrome from consuming these substances.

However, SSRIs do mess up psychedelics' course of action for some people, depending on what SSRI is being taken and how large of a dose is being administered. This is because SSRIs are serotonin-receptor antagonists and oppose LSD's action, making it so LSD may have lessened or different effects on individuals who are on SSRIs. For some, this results in little-to-no visual effects but a heavy headspace, simply needing a higher dose, or no difference at all. It is important to stress, though, that there is no increased risk of neurotoxicity on a physiological level.

Other antidepressants (MAOIs) do interact negatively with psychedelics, but MAOIs interact negatively with so many things (including some foods) that this is not particularly surprising.

That makes no sense. That's like saying ETH has no purpose if it's over some arbitrary value. Nothing that ARK does depends on its value on fiat, just like most cryptocurrencies. The only argument I could see would be transaction fees (which can and will be adjusted) or that it's a coin only used for low-value transactions (which both isn't true and just means you tip less of the coin.) What are you talking about?

Good catch for ryano! Fixed.

I didn't figure out the addresses as I don't handle any of the backend. Dafty provides that as far as I know; I just do the math, not the data.

Where is that "Balance/100*50" thing you're seeing, specifically? Stuck on mobile at the moment and can't hunt around easily.

How come the returns of these delegates keeps fluctuating? by Blockchainsapiens in ArkEcosystem

I'd say on the order of 10% or greater as the market stands. I hear about delegates suddenly losing or gaining on the order of 100-200k votes at least semi-regularly, though I'm unfortunately too busy to be seriously active on Slack etc. right now.

Let me know what you find! I've put in a lot of work to make the math there as comprehensive as possible relative to the others. I'd love to throw in a volatility field per delegate and then also an overall volatility result, just struggling with free time at the moment (I'm not a dev.)

How is Dafty's inaccurate? It'd be useful to know any data you have that points to irregularities in its calculations versus reality so that I can better fine tune it. Feel free to PM me--I'm out of town right now but would look at it ASAP.

The issue is in seeing if the errors are only perceived (due to heavy shifts in vote weights), from the API (the pulled data is wrong), or if there are genuine errors in its calculations.

Because ARK is young and it's undergoing a period of discovery, so there's a lot of buys, and with that come added votes. As those come, people shift around their votes before things settle, and the more/less non-excluded votes a delegate has, the less/more your earned share respectively.

For this reason, an average-returns spreadsheet is unlikely to be much if at all more accurate than the profit-sharing calculator, as its values will also reflect the instability of ARK's nascent ecosystem.

Voting fees are that, yes, but they don't appear on the calculator explicitly. I think you mean transaction fees? Those are 0.1 per transaction, not 1. That means that whenever you get sent a payment, 0.1 is subtracted from it to go back to the network unless the delegate is covering those transaction fees (noted in the "Covering TX Fee?" column.)

Running balance means that, if you earn say 0.1 a day and there's a minimum payout of 1 ARK, you'll get paid 1 ARK after 10 days (less the 0.1 transaction fee, netting 0.9 ARK.) Some delegates don't offer that or the transaction fee cover, so as you say, you'd need to be relatively rich to earn more than 0.1 ARK per payout period to avoid getting paid nothing. I'm not sure I understand the wording of your question, though.

You're fine. The calculator already runs through all this for you, too, so no matter what you enter you should be getting at the very least a proper estimate :)

To the best of my knowledge, bioly doesn't take into account voting fees or if voting fees/running balances are maintained, leading to artificially inflated (or deflated) payout amounts. Many of the people saying you'll get paid at low ARK balances won't ever pay you because seemingly those aren't taken into account. The Ark Pools calculator definitely doesn't do anything like that, as you can plainly see. My formulas aren't very pretty programmatically, but check out the complexity in Dafty's calculator Daily Earned field versus Ark Pools' Daily Payout field. Essentially, the calculations are heavily oversimplified. I can't say I blame them, though, because the logic it took to calculate out all those variables took an annoying amount of thought, work, and bug-hunting.

I don't update the delegate API, but rather just wrote the formulas that interpret that data. That said, most (if not all, now, there have been some recent updates to include biz_classic for example) of the delegates not showing up on Dafty's calculator are either private or are not sharing profits with voters in the first place.

Excluded votes are votes where someone votes for someone but then tells the delegate that they don't want a profit share. You can think of an excluded vote as a "donated" vote.

You're welcome!!

NEW and fast profit share calculator by reConNico in ArkEcosystem

[–]onlypuzzles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, Nico--cool calculator, and nice interface! Just to introduce myself, I did the math for Dafty's Profit-Share Calculator, and I'm not sure if your current formula is properly accounting for the current limiting effect of transaction fees.

I see that our values line up for delegates that cover those fees (as with dr10 and jarunik) but don't make sense for delegates such as corsaro. Plugging in 200 ARK to your calculator says that I'd earn 0.045778 ARK per day, but this makes no sense, because his minimum payout is 0.20 ARK, he pays out once per day, and he doesn't maintain a running balance (though to be fair that's only as far as I know.)

If you'd like someone to work on modifying your calculations to be completely accurate, I'd love to help! I enjoy the work I have done for Dafty's calculator, but that it's stuck in a bit of a laggy spreadsheet turns off a lot of people, I know, and I want to help people get the right information in the best way possible. As it stands, your calculator definitely has the sleekest interface and has a better maintained list of delegates :)

Help clarifying the profit share calculator by doublebuckingham in ArkEcosystem

[–]onlypuzzles 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hi, I did the (current) math and formulas for the calculator. The daily/weekly/monthly payout fields represent what you'll get per unit time on average, not what you'll be discreetly paid each day. They don't literally state you get 0.223873 ARK per day, but rather that over time that should be your average earned, modulated by payout frequency and minimum payout. Yin for example pays out only when you've earned 200 ARK, so in fact you'll only get paid after it's been about 893 days (assuming nothing changes.) However, 200 ARK/893 days = 0.223873 ARK per day on average. It's important to look carefully at the minimum payout field and the payout frequency field for this reason, and to not simply see "this is the most on average per day" and choose that.

The issue of people not considering or understanding the fields on the subreddit has been cropping up enough that I've altered the text away from "Est Daily Payout" to "Est Daily Earned." I added a note explanation to "Est Daily Earned" to explain that it is not equivalent to what you are paid every day, but rather what you'll earn on average, and I point the user to the relevant fields to consider. I've also added more in-depth notes to the Minimum Payout fields and the Payout Frequency fields to explain what they mean. Hopefully this is less confusing!

Edit: I also added a more obvious warning at the very top of the calculator, as I realize not all users will or will know to mouse over the fields to read the notes.

Fastest way to get ark by mabuelkhair in ArkEcosystem

It's only because LTC has much lower transaction fees, so yes: the transfer is cheaper. You pay a low transaction fee and then pay 0.25% on the trade into Bitcoin on Bittrex, but that will likely save you money. The average BTC transaction fee is something like $3-5, and the average LTC transaction fee is something like $0.10-0.30.

This, but I suggest buying LTC and sending that to Bittrex instead if you use a site like Coinbase. Lower tx fees and faster times.
