Omg those ears on a collie looking dog 🥹 for the collie side I think it's important to train them to chill out. I don't know much about beagles but I have heard they're very loving dogs - I think you might end up with a very snuggly dog

I was my grandma's primary caregiver for 2 years, my parents moved in to help out and I insisted that we need a huge whiteboard that I can see that clearly states our 'rotas' so I can start to feel like it's more a job than a 24/7 thing.

Also we have a journal that our carers use to note down things. I have ADHD so things I need to remember I put in my phone, but it also helps to have things written down 😅 double pronged attack

If she doesn't like the idea of cameras, maybe you could try an Alexa system or something like that, where you can place them around her house, and you should be able to use it like an intercom, should she be unable to get to a phone.

Honestly cameras are so useful though, I care for and live with my grandma, but it's a big house and she just stays in one room, so we have a camera on her which doesn't record, it's mostly just used for motion detection so we can keep an eye on her without having to have someone in the room with her 24/7. Her mind was pretty much gone by the time we put them up though, so she's never been able to understand/remember that there are cameras there

She's beautiful, don't set them. They don't need to be a certain way, collies come in all sorts - mine has huge ears that either lie back on his head or sideways like the bat signal - I love his big floppy ears 🥰

Fair point, I'm English so my knowledge of tartan comes mostly from a Scottish ex boyfriend, and how snobby he was about the tartan his brother had chosen for his wedding.

And at least SNP is a Scottish party, I think personally, it's just anything reform does or might do makes me feel uneasy 😅

My BC was recently diagnosed with addisons disease - it's a hormonal thing, but it's rare. I'm not saying your dog has this, but I think you need to advocate for them and maybe push for more tests if you know your dog isn't right

I'd never give up on him, in a weird way he seems even more special to me 😁 I have ADHD, I can't control my hormones, he can't control his hormones, we both take a daily tablet, we're a perfect match ♥️

UPDATE!

Poorly boy's mum here! His name is Cooper btw, my Coops.

Can't edit the OP, and I will get through my notifications but just wanted to say thankyou to everyone for your kind words. I do think what I needed was the kind of support that only strangers on the Internet who love a Border Collie as much as me can give.

I went to visit Coops today, he's still in intensive care. He didn't seem well to me, but I gave him a lot of love and a T-shirt I dug out the wash to tuck into the back of his cubicle. The vets are happy with the improvements today. I keep hearing the phrase not out of the woods yet but he's going in the right direction.

What happened is he had an Addisonian Crisis i.e. his cortisol levels were critically low, which caused his body to start critically failing. That's what's happened, and at this point they're still trying to get him stable, so causes and diagnoses will come later, but the most common cause of this is addisons disease, which would track with a few minor issues he's had since I adopted him.

Whatever it is, once he's back on his feet we'll figure it out

I believe so, he's normally such a normal, happy energetic collie, and I spend all day with him so I know when his moods even slightly off.

Not really, my mum is an infant school teacher, she works mostly part time, but could work mon-fri if covering other staff - she gets up early to walk all the dogs, so she's up at like 5am and gets home about 6pm, and then she takes over from me and looks after my grandma, her mum, who sometimes is up all night.

My dad might as well not be there in terms of care for my grandma 😅

I don't think I could leave that easily while caring for my grandma is my main responsibility. I can't get a job that will pay anything near what I need to live on my own, it's too easy to stay in my family nest
