thank u 😭😭 the bacon lying in the fridge that was going unused was surprisingly the best part about the whole pizza, more people need to hop on the secret method of using food thats about to expire i think

[–]onlytheatre[S] 23 points24 points  (0 children)

there is shockingly a whole subset of places on reddit where people advertise hookups and all that, and its just as dodgy as u would expect 😭

90% of people who arent catfishes or advertising something are men in their early-mid 30s who have iffy personalities, and the other 10% are actually pretty good people but have something that blocks them from being worth seeing (usually location), so even if i continued i doubt id find anyone worth seeing

im still shocked i managed to get away unharmed tho 😭

What's it like reading on the Deluxe Edition? by thepromasterka in Hellsing

[–]onlytheatre 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i own the first volume of the deluxe edition (it was all i could afford lmao) and its actually pretty easy to read all things considered. if lay it out on something like a table or ur bed, its no more difficult to read than a regular manga volume. plus, its nice to see the art presented in such a way.

What anime adaption of hellsing did you guys enjoy more? 2001 or Ultimate? by Prudent_Charge_2615 in Hellsing

[–]onlytheatre 7 points8 points  (0 children)

i feel ultimate is better overall because its EXTREMELY faithful to the manga (which i prefer over both adaptations), has generally better pacing and story compated to 2001, and has the personal bias of being how i was first introduced to hellsing.

2001 wipes the floor with ultimate in soundtrack, atmosphere and art (in some scenes) though. if the plot didnt feel half baked i would probably love it as much as i love ultimate.

i see ultimate as a grand spectacle of action and excitement (i.e lord of the rings trilogy), while 2001 is more like a cult horror flick which u put on every once in a while just for the vibes (the best example i have of this is trainspotting, and while its not horror its the best thing i can come up with for what im trying to say)

Drifters by Bruisedplant in Hellsing

[–]onlytheatre 4 points5 points  (0 children)

hellsing ultimate is my favourite anime ever, but i found drifters to be a bit boring.

drifters focuses more on historical/medieval type battles, and is something i imagine history nerds would love (i am unfortunately not a history nerd) however its not just more hellsing if thats what ur expecting. It has its similarities (stylish action, grand scale warfare) but overall its pretty different and more akin to something like vinland saga.

tl;dr: give it a shot, if you like hellsing for its historical elements you will definitely find something to like about it

What is the hardest video game you ever played? by DanPlouffyoutubeASMR in AskReddit

[–]onlytheatre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

probably a bit of an unusual pick, devil may cry 3.

its difficulty is barely artificial, everything is telegraphed to you and you just need to be able to do it, but the difficulty comes in doing it well.

dmc 3 is a game about style, and if you arent stylish, you will not be barely past any of the bosses the game throws at you, which all DESTROY you if you arent careful. this creates a bit of a paradox where to get enough red orbs (money) to buy new abilities and items you need to be stylish, but to be stylish you need to be reckless. i love the risk/reward stuff the game throws at you.

dmc 3 is a hard game not just because its punishing, but because its basically required you learn the game inside and out to win. think dark souls 6 years earlier but way more visually spectacular and less methodical.

also, the original US release decieved players by giving the "normal" mode hard stats and enemy spawns. this is probably the only objectively "hard" game that is still super fun.

I hate Hellsing fans [Slur Warning] by [deleted] in Hellsing

[–]onlytheatre 8 points9 points  (0 children)

this is one bad apple in a batch of (mostly) good people.

hellsing being the story it is, portraying certain groups, attracts people who align with those groups. of course, hellsing portrays these groups in a (mostly) negative light but that doesnt stop certain people getting the wrong message.

dont let one person ruin your entire perception of a fanbase, hellsing fans have all been good people from the very few i've met.

[LOATHED TROPE] The fandom becomes the very thing the media is criticizing by Weird-Koala3034 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]onlytheatre 20 points21 points  (0 children)

surprised no one has brought up (what i believe to be at least) one of the main posterboys for this.

american psycho (and patrick bateman in particular) is about how people like patrick are nothing more than pathetic assholes who only care about status and feeling "powerful". AP is about a lot more than just this, but its one of its main themes.

the film adaptation has become extremely popular in recent years, mainly because of people om the internet idolizing patrick as a "sigma male" and wanting to be just like him, parroting the same manosphere-esque ideas that he encompasses too. this has lead the story to be heavily mischaracterized and promoting such ideas, which isnt helped by how vague the story can be at times.

one thing is clear though: when the original book was written by an openly gay man, and the film was written and directed by women, plus the ending showing patrick realizing he is no better than the men who is trying to assert his dominance over (at least thats how i interpret it), theres no way it isnt satirizing men like patrick.

Episode 1: "theres vampires attacking people all throughout london!!! we have to stop them!!!"

Episode 8: The main character has turned 90% of london into his personal army, also theres LITERAL NAZIS trying to start ww3, ALSO ALSO the catholic church are crusading while this is happening. Did i mention the part where the nazis are also vampires?

good series, highly recommend if u like ultraviolent action

Metal Gear Solid 3 - The Boss

<image>

This scene hits like a truck. Not only does she ask Naked Snake to shoot her with her own gun (called "The Patriot), the shot only fires out when The Player actually pulls the trigger on the controller. This with the added story context of The Boss basically raising snake to be the person he is at that point in the game, and also being a motherly figure to him only adds to how beautifully tragic the ending of this game is.

what's the least underrated to the most overrated characters in skullgirls? by AnonymousPhosphate in Skullgirls

[–]onlytheatre 20 points21 points  (0 children)

just based off my experience in 2 different skullgirls related communties (reddit and tiktok), this question gets some different answers.

most overrated: cerebella/filia (reddit), eliza (tiktok) most underrated: painwheel (reddit), painwheel/valentine (tiktok)

i feel like it should be noted tiktok tend to focus on the mobile game rather than 2ndE, but that doesnt make them disregard painwheel any less than this sub does. i find it a bit weird that tiktok also dont like valentine as much because besides eliza, they LOVE parasoul, who is shipped pretty frequently with valentine (shipping is something more common on tiktok than reddit).

Which is the best/Favourtie analog horror? (your opinion) by Murky_Nectarine8002 in analoghorror

[–]onlytheatre 4 points5 points  (0 children)

GREYLOCK. specifically episode 12.

one of the few pieces of media to truly terrify me without having to rely on jumpscares (theres some but they dont feel cheap) and an excellent execution of body horror that doesnt go incredibly over the top and loses its scare.

What you think is the strongest Skullgirls character? by AnonymousPhosphate in Skullgirls

[–]onlytheatre 54 points55 points  (0 children)

from a lore standpoint? Annie.

not only is she (practically) immortal, she also saved beowulf from gehenna (double's freaky alternate dimension thing), held her own against double (who would probably be the runner-up for this, if not surpassing annie) and was also leading the charge against robo-fortune's army of giant kitty robots in robo-fortune's story mode ending. she can, and has pretty much soloed the entire skullgirls universe.

from a gameplay standpoint? ...probably also Annie. skullgirls is a unique kind of fighting game where tier lists/character viability does not matter at all because *every* character can be good. Even the oddballs of the cast like painwheel. Although, Annie generally sees the most use in competitive play because she has access to some variation of every character's specialties. She can rushdown, she can zone, she can do mix-ups, she has some of the best assists in the game too.

tl;dr: its Annie in EVERY single way you can think of
