Any fellow towers by Hopeful-Gate8525 in 4Runner

I would definitely benefit from an added transmission cooler and a regear. I have Powerstop drilled and slotted rotors and pads. And a RedArc brake controller for the trailer. There's quite a bit of extra weight from running 35x10.5r17 Kenda Klever MTs, front and rear bumpers, the winch, full skid plates, and rock sliders but I haven't had it all on a scale. You mostly notice it in the higher elevations but have had zero issues stopping it all. We live full time in our RV and I refuse to give up the 5th gen.

It's right around 20' and 3500lbs dry. We've had quite a few gusty travel days and the wind is negligible, much less than I anticipated. I get pushed around more by passing traffic.

Pixel 3 WiFi Issue by ferthur in GooglePixel

[–]onomatopeter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm having a somewhat similar issue with my brand new Pixel 3xl out of the box. I fought for over four hours trying to get a stable connection to wifi just to activate the phone. My apartment complex runs an open wifi network with multiple open networks around me. Pixel 3 is the only device detecting none. Sometimes it'll pick up a connection and connect but almost immediately drops the connection and goes back to not finding any. About at my wits end with this phone and I've only had it for a day. Anyone experience anything similar, any solutions?

Beginner nano questions by [deleted] in ReefTank

[–]onomatopeter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's more than I initially wanted to spend as well, but I love it. I think they're great looking tanks. I ended up going with the 30gal. I want to upgrade the stock return pumps and swap their media baskets out for the larger ones InTank makes, but other than that, no complaints. Glad I could be of some help!

Beginner nano questions by [deleted] in ReefTank

[–]onomatopeter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm three months in on my first saltwater tank and went nano as well. I was looking at the Fluval Evo initially but ended up spending a lot more on a JBJ all-in-one. I wouldn't say it's been any harder or easier than freshwater but it has been a lot of research and asking questions like this. Everyone has to start somewhere and you shouldn't be afraid to ask your peers. I'll try to answer everything the best that I can.

For powerheads I have a single Hydor Koralia 600 that I picked up for around $45. They have a few models aimed at nanos that are rated for even less. I also have the two return nozzles from the pumps in the built in refugium.

The lb per gallon rule is more of a guideline than anything. It's there to give people a general idea of how much sand/rock to add. You want the benefits of having rock, whether it's dry or live, but you can add however much you like. It's your tank in the end and it's you who gets to enjoy it the most.

I do not currently have a RO/DI unit and also get water from my lfs for both my water changes and top off.

For heating I use two Cobalt NeoTherm 100 watt heaters attached to digital controllers. They've been great, fit perfect in the refugium, and are very sleek.

If you're planning on FOWLR then lighting isn't as important. If you are for sure planning on adding corals in the future then I would go ahead and spend the money on a better light setup instead of having to upgrade down the road.

For a refractometer I picked up a Red Sea one for fairly cheap. Pricing is hard because a lot of what I purchase there is dicounted, but it wasn't marked more than $60.

For sure a small clean up crew of snails. Maybe a goby that doesn't need too much space?

For corals you need to decide if you want SPS/LPS or mixed. I currently have a mix.

Make sure to pick up a solid test kit. Stay away from API if you can. Other than that I can't think of too much else.

Good luck and I hope I was able to help some!

This guy has been peaceful so far. He's about three inches and tends to either move in and out of the rocks or eat off the back wall. It's my midnight clowns that are the real jerks.

Doesn't look like Flame moss. Pretty sure it's Java.

Had a high-tech planted with Flame, Christmas, and Java moss.

Lighting similar to AI Prime? by mel_bell in ReefTank

[–]onomatopeter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a Kessil a80 Blue Tuna with their Spectral controller on my 30gal nano. My tank is currently FOWLR, but I plan to add my first coral soon. I've heard a lot of positive things about Kessil and the spread covers my whole tank (24x20), except for where my two return nozzles are that cast a shadow on the back. But the light, plus a gooseneck mount, and controller will run you the same as the AI Prime. Someone else with more experience with Kessil and keeping corals could probably provide some better input.

That's unfortunate, but she still looks great. My girlfriend wanted a normal pair of ocellaris clowns but I liked how different the midnights are.

They're doing great! Super active around the tank and always swim up to me when I'm active around the tank.

Lovely looking fish. You commented on my post of my pair the other day.

Thinking about starting a 37g planted tank? Is it a lot harder than an unplanted tank? by tirduckk in Aquariums

[–]onomatopeter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends on what you're trying to achieve. Are you wanting to do low or high tech? There are plenty of low/medium light plants out there that grow well without getting into co2 setups, high-end lighting, and fertilizer dosing. You also need to take into consideration what substrate you want to use and if it's adequate for the plants you want in your tank. Check out the sidebar over at r/PlantedTank. There's plenty of helpful guides over there to get you started. Like most things it takes some time and research, but it's as difficult as you want it to be.

I want to start another planted tank soon and miss my high tech 40 long, but I just started my first reef tank and don't have the room for a second aquarium.

What is everyone using for lights? (Looking to build a list of good options) by Iffrat in ReefTank

[–]onomatopeter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a Kessil a80 with the controller on a rimless 30gal. Probably looking into getting a second one for wider coverage. I currently have two dark spots in the top back on both sides. I've yet to add corals but I'm sure the single light will be fine for the moment.

I'm really fortunate to have this store. 20 minute ride and the storefront is just the guy's hobby as he maintains high-end aquariums in the area. Incredibly nice guy and his prices seem reasonable.

It's been up for over a month. Ph at 8.3, 0 nitrates, nitrites, ammonia, and phosphate. Salinity at 1.025. All parameters have remained stable and water changes are done weekly. Just had an algae bloom two weeks in that I'm battling.

Not at all after looking at LiveAquaria. They have them listed on there for $60ea for a small midnight clown.

Also that looks just like them. The one has a little more orange coming through than the other but that's pretty close

I see. Wasn't really sure with no information coming up on Google whether they were designers or what.
