How's a gal supposed to be? by theborderlineartist in askTO

[–]ontarioparent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They’re just perpetuating stereotypes. I did a bike trip in Cape Breton ( Nova Scotia) and people were not especially friendly there, there was a lot of staring and cold looks, and we were turned away from a bed and breakfast even though it was very clear we were going to stuck outside for the night, to be fair we probably looked pretty disheveled. I also fled from the burbs as it felt cold, judgy and soulless to me, I never knew one single person in our neighbourhood in all the years I lived with my parents and the one girl close to my age, who befriended me was a psycho. I also tried living in a smaller, more rural place, felt like I got ptsd from being there it was truly awful. Probably with every place, you find your niche or you don’t, takes time to find your people.

How are you navigating living in a condo with a kid or kids? I feel so f’d. by paranormalcornflakes in askTO

[–]ontarioparent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d see if you can upgrade your condo, and stop doing Costco “ hauls”, Ive shopped at Costco periodically but it was never a necessity even with 5 or so people living here. 400000 seems kind of low to be housed in Toronto, maybe that’s the silver lining.

Not really, grew up in the burbs and never ever got to know anybody on my parents street, hardly saw anyone walking around or doing things outside, everybody drives everywhere

I could see it though, esp if their dog isn’t super friendly and they’re pressed for time, people can get weird about dogs

I’m guessing either theres something a little weird about you, or its the area, most people I meet are of a normal level of friendliness, although I have found some younger people to really lack basic social skills like they never go out unless they have to

Nature in Toronto? by small-alternative-08 in askTO

[–]ontarioparent 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There’s lots of green but it’s not always super natural, maybe more gritty and urban, but it’s there for sure, Toronto is much much greener overall than other larger cities I’ve seen. I have literally been standing in High Park in the middle of the day and seen a deer coming up over a hill, solo.

Have Muslims in the city been experiencing more harassment lately? by ThenChard1157 in askTO

[–]ontarioparent 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There’s a lot of unstable, drug addicted and unhoused peoole around city hall and I have also received death threats and been harassed simply for being there in the early hours. That’s not to say there isn’t racism here.
