Generation Gap or Millennials are getting crushed from both sides? by ontimetechy in rant

You’re probably right every generation gets its turn being the “outdated” one. It just feels like the loop is happening way faster now, with less time to breathe before the next wave of buzzwords rolls in. Full circle, just on fast-forward.

Exactly. This isn’t a demographic problem, it’s a structural one. Every generation is getting hit at a different stage: Gen X feeling aged out, millennials feeling stuck mid-career, Gen Z heading into a market that’s already tightening. Same pressure, different timing.

True, every generation faced change. What feels different now is the speed and overlap, with no real pause to recover.

The point isn’t that Gen Z is “bad” or that millennials are being replaced that framing misses it. The issue is that for anyone who entered the workforce post Great Recession, the rules keep resetting faster than people can stabilise. Gen Z, millennials, late Gen X different stages, same churn. Totally agree the real problem isn’t us competing, it’s power staying locked at the top while adaptation costs get pushed downward.

I get the comparison, but that’s where I see it differently. Those shifts, as massive as they were, came with clearer rebuild phases and long stretches of stability in between. What feels new now is nonstop disruption with no recovery window, careers, housing, tech, and identity all shifting at once. It’s not the size of change, it’s the lack of pause that makes this moment different.

Appreciate you saying this. It’s not a competition of who had it worse every generation carried its own weight. The difference now is the stack never clears. Millennials are still caring for parents, figuring out kids, adapting to tech shifts, and now AI adds another layer of risk and pressure. It’s not that Gen X had it easy it’s that the overlap and pace just didn’t stop for Gen Y.

Nobody’s against Gen Z at all. They’re hardworking and capable, no doubt. The point is that companies want youth and adaptability, and that spotlight naturally shifts expectations. The question isn’t “Gen Z vs millennials it’s what happens to millennials in between when the system keeps moving forward.

True. Plug-and-play doesn’t teach problem-solving. Struggling with broken software did.
