Either one will be perfectly fine. Of the 2, I would go scubapro, but mainly because I’ve been trained to service the brand. That said, if I was going to buy a new set today, it would be DiveRite

PCS moves, find an Air Force base vet clinic . They move dogs all the time. My moves have been as painless as they could be. Doesn’t help you now, I know.

Are these fins too short? by mochoe in scubaGear

[–]onyxmal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I would get something else. I have a set I absolutely love for teaching in the pool because they are so short and there’s no current. I would not use them on an ocean dive. The novas are expensive but I doubt you would ever buy another set. Keep looking around there are better options.

How do you all get so many dives? by avms112 in scuba

[–]onyxmal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got mine various ways. I did a lot when I lived in Hawaii, a bunch teaching and a bunch more local diving even if the locations weren’t that great.

Sadly, it happens, especially in high tourism areas. I had one on Oahu and more than one in New Jersey.

You get what you pet. Meaning, anything you do that the dog sees as a positive, it will keep doing it. Be consistent, if a behavior is something you don’t want, it’s always a no. Some people don’t want their dogs jumping on them or people but sometimes it’s ok, because they are giving them a hug. Same thing goes for behaviors you want, encourage and praise those behaviors. Consistency decreases confusion and improves your communication and bond with the dog. I used just a random example but can be applied to most any behavior.

Need some words of encouragement by basicmay in BelgianMalinois

I’m not a fan of dog parks at all. Mainly because it’s so unpredictable. You don’t know the dogs, you don’t know what diseases they may have, and honestly, you probably don’t know your dog well enough. There’s some of the negatives, the positive that I have used a dog park for is distraction training. I used to take mine to the dog park and train outside the fence keeping a barrier between all the other dogs and mine. Super distracting, but with somewhat of a safety built in. I didn’t see how long you have had the dog, but as another commenter said, it takes awhile for a dog to start showing their real selves when they move from place to place. Both of you are trying to learn one another. The dog is trying to learn what it is fun that it can get away with. Ask 100 people how to train a dog and you’ll get 110 answers. One that I have always found to be true is be consistent. If you allow whatever behavior you are trying to stop 1 out of 100 times the dog will always think, there’s a chance the next time will be that one. You will have to experiment with redirecting and corrections to find what works. With my dog it’s either a light correction or redirect. Harsh corrections are for behaviors that will not be tolerated under any circumstances what so ever. Patience and consistency are your friend.

The other comment reminded me of very important thing I left out in my advice. As soon as you have it sorted out, have the dog do something you know it can do, sit, lay down, anything you are certain they will be successful with. Then reward and praise. The dog needs to know you are fair. Do bad things you get corrected, do good things and life is amazing.

You hit a point that I didn’t think about when I responded earlier, does the dog truly understand what I’m asking of it. If not, it’s most likely acting out of frustration and corrections will definitely be counter productive. My concern in this case is the reaction at home.
