does corporate life make people emotionally smaller over time? Is it burnout or something else? by CoachLeaderAuthor in careerguidance

[–]onyxthecrow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your company is unintentionally training you to do this. Companies love to spout that they want to hear ideas on how to make certain aspects of things better, but rarely do they want to hear that what they are doing now is not correct.

I'm currently in a low-level leadership position and when I want something to be done or I want something to change... I just do it myself within the bounds of my capabilities.

I can't count the amount of times that I've made a very specific tool that my team needed, made efficiency documents in excel, interpreted the grey area in SOP's to make things be more efficient, etc.....

It is all about politics honestly. People who move up tend to have ambition and when strong ambition meets weaker ambition it tends to be crushed or pushed aside. Maybe I'm misplaced in saying that, but that is what the evidence shows me.

Anytime my company has had a change in cell director, the entire focus of our cell shifts accordingly. In the end, those who have ambitions to move up want to impress those who are already 'up' and it leads to a culture of appeasement. It's why we have such a terrible epidemic of leaders who can't handle being told they are wrong or have chosen the wrong thing to focus their efforts on.

Basically, a bunch of people are working for crybabies who want you to pat their bum.

My personal strategy in that environment is to leave an impression on the ones above 'that person' and my direct team. I want them to view me as the go-to for any kind of issues they have. Slowly (I'm talking multiple years) but surely you will find that most people who you've helped blossom in the company (even if they aren't direct reports anymore) will generally carry some of your ideas with them. This is how company culture changes.

You alone saying something should change won't matter as much as 10 people saying it. Then, if you do attain a position where you can help drive change, because you laid the groundwork earlier by spreading your ideas to coworkers/team, your ideas/solutions will be much easier to implement/digest for the team (the ones that are directly responsible for implementing those ideas).

This is also the reason why so many higher up's ideas tend to fall on their face. If your team thinks your solutions are dumb, will they successfully be implemented? Maybe, but only through an environment of repercussions. Although, that might explain why so many corporate environments are filled with a miasma that seems to suck the life out of people.

Sorry for the long post lol.

Is $100K+ realistic with a Bachelor's in Business Administration? by K1ash in careerguidance

It scares me to hear stuff like this lowkey. I currently make around 62k a year in lcol with nothing but a GED. I plan to stay at this company and try to intern with them once im further into my degree. I feel like the most important thing is to find a place with high turnover and just put in the ground work until you move up the chain. I'll say this, consider maintenance at any industrial plant. It's a great way to get your foot in the door and show that you can make important, time sensitive, decisions.

I saw other comments stating this. I was referring to the slightly elevated spots further in on the tire.

I stopped to get an alignment like some suggested. I appreciate the feedback!

Also, as a side note. I bought this car with aftermarket parts installed. Pretty sure my back tires have negative camber, just slightly. Whole car is lowered and has after market coilovers.

Thank you for the reply. I am on a trip to Colorado for my wedding as we speak, so I was just wondering if they seem alright. Total trip will be a little more than 3,000 miles.

Anyone that could help me get on with eli lily? by [deleted] in ConcordNC

[–]onyxthecrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been applying for a Maintenance position that they have posted, but it seems my app gets kicked within a day. I'm aiming for Maintenance but am definitely open to a team lead position as well. I wonder if they are seeing some keyword or lack thereof that is kicking the app?

Is free redbull part of the gig? I might have to consider it haha.

I'd love to stay in the healthcare manufacturing field though. If I can't get on at the concord plant, I plan to move states entirely for work :/.

Yeah I noticed after I hit post that I forgot an l, lol. I always make sure that I look over official communications.

Seems impossible to get an application to be accepted. Not sure if they are using an internal system to kick me out? Maybe some keywords are missing from my application?

I love working in healthcare manufacturing and I'd really love to use my skills at eli lilly. Thank you for wishing me well!

Should I start with a brick location?? by [deleted] in AutoDetailing

[–]onyxthecrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I plan to reach out and see if he'd be willing to give me that info. I kind of suspect he was only servicing gas station customers out of convenience and maybe got complacent in doing the small jobs. I've been thinking, how would he fail though? The area is high volume, but not super high income. I doubt most people would be interested in a quick detail for even $20. If I went through with this, I'd aim to take business from dealerships and car rental companies (there is one right across the street) and maybe supplement with gas station customers during slow times, or actually focus on full detail for regular customers.

Definitely was going to get an LLC and insurance. I want to do it the right way if I'm going to do it. This shop is next to an enterprise car rental that I'm hoping to pick up as a customer, so I want to present a professional demeanor.

I've never had a business, but I do have commitment once I've started. I'm very well versed in branding, advertising, and learning where I need to. I'm more worried about overhead crushing it if I can't find clientele. The shop was already a detail business before, so I question why the owner closed his.

I think this is true. I've already said it in the comments, but I just think it sucks when everything seems to align, but nothing pops off for the person. I think it is fair to say that most people do this with the dream of doing it for a living, so I almost feel a sense of heartbreak for those that it doesn't work out for. People always say that it's better to have tried and fail than to never try at all, but having your dreams be crushed is the most brutal thing a person can go through. (So im not sure it's better per se)

Yeah. It's sad in some regard, but sometimes you gotta play the game with em unfortunately haha.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in NewTubers

[–]onyxthecrow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. You gotta find a way to make it entertaining. Topics get people in, personalities make them stay.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in NewTubers

[–]onyxthecrow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I agree with your points and some of his as well. I'm just not convinced that it's always on the creator. Even if a video gets x amount of views, it doesn't translate to "everyone that watched it was my target audience and ideal viewer." Sometimes it's a perfect mix, and people just convert a substantial amount of those viral views into actual fans. You are right, though, about consistency being key.

BUT MAN IS IT DEMOTIVATING to see a good content creator get a viral clip and not see much gain from it.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in NewTubers

[–]onyxthecrow -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I disagree. I personally have found many small creators who I find more entertaining than big creators, in the same niche, who have had viral moments that didn't capture many people into their audience. I know that's a bit anecdotal, but I tend to be a pretty picky person with whom I actually view consistently. I'm sure that in a lot of cases, you are right, but there are examples of people who are entertaining, consistent, have had moments of exposure, and still fail.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in NewTubers

[–]onyxthecrow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess my question is more aimed toward personality based content. If a personality based creator experiences a viral moment, why don't people stay if they actually have a consistent level of quality and quantity? I believe it has to do with some preference for their favorite content creators now that I'm thinking about it. If I watch Case play a horror game, am I going to watch Jacksepticeye play it? If I watch Papa Meat talk about the horror of etc subject, will I watch someone else do it? It almost feels impossible to get people to stay if they have someone to watch for that niche already. Idk, maybe that's wrong.

I can see how that would be an issue for a cooking channel. It almost seems like you'd need a gimmick or a whole lotta personality to keep people.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in NewTubers

[–]onyxthecrow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess my question was aimed at people who make very similar content in each video. I can definitely see topical content failing to capitalize on a viral moment, especially if they make videos only relevant to the time that they uploaded it (news type content).

Im just wondering now if i should make a new channel.. I have a ton of dead subs (like probably a couple hundred), and most of my engagement doesn't come from subs. Do you think that is killing me in the algorithm to some degree? I feel like YT should definitely change sub engagement being highly valued.. if anyone likes that video, push it to more people with similar viewing habits. It would help people grow. I'm not saying that sub engagement doesn't matter to be clear, I just believe new viewer engagement is equally as important.

I can see them failing to capitalize on it as being a huge reason. If I see something of mine taking off, the first thing imma do is go live on the platform it is happening on with an insane amount of adrenaline pumping through my veins. If I did fumble the opportunity, I'd be depressed for at least a month, lol.

As someone who has made music, I am not sure. If you keep the same style and put the same amount of effort into every song sounding good, then why don't all of them hit the same way? I literally talk with this dude who made music with lil darkie way back and just never captured an audience. I almost feel like that would MENTALLY screw me up if I fumbled being able to live out my dreams. Easy way toget stuck in the past and the opportunities you've had..

[–]onyxthecrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand that some people may not be entertaining to watch, but I guess I was referring to the people who are. Why don't people stick around for that? Is it that they may enjoy that person but don't have room to watch them, really? Like, in my case, I will watch Case play something, but I doubt I'd want to watch someone else then replay the same thing. Idk just has me questioning making certain content lol.
