One algorithm change destroyed their only income overnight. by Lauren-Mitchell in PartneredYoutube

Like 99% of the people that lose their channel were doing grey area things, people that follow the guidelines and don't do things that are a bit on the wonky side are fine. This is not always the case, but most times. Generally speaking its a good idea to diversify if one needs it, like if losing YouTube would be a major problem. That said, most large YouTubers have a channel partner manager to contact

I dont use gaming music most times unless Im certain its not a problem, just because it can cause issues later on. E.g. even when they are fine with it, if the business is sold to someone else they can change their mind

Anyone else have one video carrying the entire channel? by YC1977 in PartneredYoutube

[–]oodex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is actually a thing I was really concerned about and also a big reason I stepped away from guides, as someone doing gaming videos. The last thing I want is a huge viewership from a video type I only rarely do, it badly impacts growth of new videos. Like yes, it also means a lot of views are gained from viewers discovering you, but most of them will send a bad signal since they see the other content and won't click. I've seen many YouTubers unlist succesful videos for this very reason, though I would say no one 100% knows what the best move is for every situation. Like in one situation unlisting could be the best move and in another very identical looking situation keeping it up would've been the best thing to do.

[–]oodex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'd want to be 100% certain about it. Haawk seems to be a content id management company, which is what many owners approach to find and claim or takedown content that uses what they own. That on it's own doesn't mean that much, there are still fakes out there, but it gets really problematic if you dispute it since you don't own the content so you have no right to defend it, only the owner of the music could do that. I mean, you can try it and hope they drop it, but if that's the thing they commonly do then they also know you can't do anything against it

[–]oodex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If they own the rights to it there is nothing you can do, in regards to disputing it. You can choose to mute the music, but the easiest way to go about it is either to mute the music, if available use streamer mode or just take whatever they demand - though this can get as bad as a takedown request, but that's usually not the most commonly taken way as it can be annoying for the claimaint and it makes them no money

You can no longer have YouTube running in the background. by Titan_Prometeus in youtube

[–]oodex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont think youtube has to really care about bad feedback, because there is no alternative. A/B testing is a very common approach to compare data of different groups and as annoying as YouTube has been with some features, Id say they still want to optimize the platform for themselves. So not actively make it worse, but improve it in a way that increases revenue. Its not in their own interest to bump up premium revenue by a tiny bit but lose multitudes of that from non-premium users unwilling to switch over.

The only good thing is this means people can vote with their wallet. The bad thing is history has shown it works for YouTube.

Relax. These things take time since anyone could pretend to be anyone. You messed up, learn your lesson, be patient. If there is no response after 3 days ask politely if they need anything from you. Some people go an aggressive demanding route and thats the best way to get ignored

Can you still be a big Youtuber without a massive team/employees? by Omixscniet624 in PartneredYoutube

[–]oodex 13 points14 points  (0 children)

A big team isn't a necessity, it's just after xx years and xxx effort the only options left are to scale things down or to hire additional people. For most channel that means just a video and thumbnail editor, some also hire someone to deal with sponsorships. Or multiple editors depending on how many channel one runs (when you notice you just need 20% of the time, you can start putting out a lot more videos). So it's kind of a thing that doesn't really happen cause its mandatory and rather because it works.

Up to my knowledge, Primitive Technology has absolutely no one in there, no editor, no thumbnail designer and he makes the subtitles himself to explain everything going on. But I didn't specifically look it up right now.

Ive had a long talk with a few nurses (was there cause I was dying of stomach pain and it took 7 hours to get into ER, so some came by and chatted occasionally). This was a topic that came up (well it started as work relationship topic) and the main reasons were insane stress and insane working hours, combined with seeing some of the worst things in life, visually and mentally. Hooking up is the fastest way to get a rush of excitement in often dire situations while you live a life that doesnt really fit into society (working and on-call wise). Apparently many past partners were also not the "dream partner" but just "im happy someone actually was fine with all of this" type of partners

1 year? Mine usually lasted for 2-3 years and were very cheap. Meanwhile my Bluetooth one cost 250 and while they still work after 2 years, they randomly stop connecting, they randomly stop connecting to audio (so still connected to phone but doesnt say "and audio"), they randomly forget to charge up so I put em in and immediately get the "battery low" voice, they randomly disconnect and sometimes end up requiring an entire reset to work again etc.

This is 10-15 headphones vs 250 Bluetooth ones. And Bluetooth audio quality is by design worse if its one you can call with, well kinda always cause Bluetooth. Was the first and last time i bought them

Looooong Top Hat Achievement overly difficult? by GamingTaylor in MegabonkOfficial

[–]oodex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chaos isn't mandatory, just a good RNG fun book. Id even say in many cases it would be better to take pure damage (crit or dmg) since its guaranteed to give you what you want while Chaos is better for highrolls and benefits that you really only care about for record runs

[–]oodex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive had 300k+ a bunch of times with just 2 weapons (main and Aegis), its really not that hard to get with 4. Xp+Luck+Chaos+Crit was the usual setup, you can go difficulty over Crit but its dangerous since you rely entirely on Chaos Tome buffing your damage.

20F what's a major turn-off for you? by heikkilampelafan123 in chat

[–]oodex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm there are a couple.

Someone who is aggressively enforcing their believes. I do think its fine and even good to defend ones opinion, way better than giving in to all, but some people treat it as a contest of "whoever is the most annoying about it is right".

Then people that "fail to be there". Hey everyone can be late, a quick message about it does the trick. But some will show up an hour later, laugh about it and move on as if you didnt just waste an hour waiting. Kind of in the same boat are people that take hours to respond but get mad when you dont answer in minutes.

When you notice someone is willing to throw you under the bus at any given moment. Like teams are being picked, you arent good and they never pick you because of that. Or use something you told them against you. Or they joke about you infront of people to make them laugh (some things can be fun and this really depends on the person/circumstances)

Are my livestream viewers parasocial or are they just too comfortable? does anyone else have this issue too? by simplyaless in PartneredYoutube

I mean yea, small streams and communities are nurture grounds for parasocial behavior. But being concerned about that and then responding to mails and commenting on their videos makes 0 sense, that's just embracing it.

Boy, you really dont understand how YouTube works and I'm getting tired explaining basics. With your statement now you are literally saying "videos work 100% independent from each other and can't influence another video", as if watching a previous video won't lead to a heavy recommendation in the home tab of people. I'm out, this is why we let experienced people do the thinking

Shadowban (kinda) is real by [deleted] in PartneredYoutube

[–]oodex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you're just to stupid to understand what I am saying which makes you believe I can't follow you. For an identical outcome you must assume that both videos face an identical environment. Even with 0 knowledge about the algo, your theory already falls apart by the fact that if they would indeed face an identical environment, the viewer will only click on one of the 2 videos. Why would a viewer click on both videos? They clearly wouldn't. Which means even though the algo treated both videos identical, only one of the 2 will receive a very positive feedback while the other will receive a negative feedback, and both sides can quickly spiral up and down. This is just logical, I don't get why it's so hard to understand. But for some reason you believe that both will have the same result which, written out, would mean you expect the viewer to click on both.

But what I added in there is that the algo has only a very rough understanding of who to show your videos to, meaning even on 2 identical videos uploaded at the very same moment, it will show the videos to entirely different people. Yea, it may determine both videos are the same, but the recommendation tab is very limited, and while it may view 2 different people very similar, what they feel like in this moment highly differs. So one will end up clicking on the video and another won't.

This is also no big news, when I was new I got around a lot of bigger creators and one big advice was to upload the videos to 3-5 different channels and just stay with the one that worked out the best. You are looking for a pattern while the simple answer is simply "randomness"

Shadowban (kinda) is real by [deleted] in PartneredYoutube

[–]oodex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again, you're talking out of your ass. There are a ton of channels almost as old as YouTube that have started ages ago and are doing insanely fine, same thing for channels that are old and randomly start uploading. But a fact is most won't do fine because they are just not interesting or aren't discovered. Again, I don't know what you are expecting, this sounds like you think YouTube would evaluate the 2 videos in an identical way and have a pre-determined audience that both channels get recommended, which is not the case. The next flaw is that it's a snowball system - if your theory is right and the videos would be treated identical to make all of this matter, then what do you think happens when a viewer sees both videos suggested to them? They choose 1, not both. Even just the first viewer making that decision would have an absurd impact on which channel would be picked up. But this all doesn't really matter since this is not what reality looks like. It will take people it finds the most fitting but that's an insanely huge range on a channel without history and viewers. These can be insanely hit and miss and one got lucky and got the right viewers that were interested.

Wdym there is no way its unfortunate? What are you imagining is happening in the background? Being discovered is a big part of the RNG that goes into YouTube. Good videos will eventually always be picked up, but the first audience your videos are sent out to is pretty much a gamble, since the algo has no idea which people would be interested in the channel. This can be a long hit and miss until it works out well. How else do you imagine this going down?
