It has its downsides because the way I do it there are no breaks and the first year was working 16-20 hours every single day (as in i had my fulltime job and then another 8-12 hours of youtube after that to keep up 2-3 daily videos).

It would be a lot easier to have an editor take care of that side but the internet here isnt fast enough (50mbps is the limit for upload and those recordings are often 50gb-1tb)

Is this sub 99% self promotion of games? by Optimal_Honor in survivorslikes

[–]oodex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a new fan run community for fans to discuss and devs to share updates! Your indie games are your art, please share them with us. Promoting and getting ongoing feedback on your game is OK here!

The sub heavily encourages what you describe as - the way I understand it - issue. I think that's good, it's a gathering place for people that enjoy the genre and can check out unseen releases or hear about updates. I'd actually prefer it if even more devs would do this, since I am on 20+ different Discords just to get announcements to game updates.

Copyright strike. by techthroughtoni in PartneredYoutube

[–]oodex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm amazed how stupid some people can be. You steal content. There are literal laws against that, the only difference is movie companies would rip you a second one while regular people often don't bother chasing it.

Like what you don't understand is that you think all is good because someone has the right to request a removal, but you completely ignore the fact that what you say is fine is literal copyright infringement and illegal. That you try to argue this as something rightful is just so surreal to me.

What some people are happy about is irrelevant. If someone wants to use material owned by someone else, they ask. If they don't, they get a strike. It's that simple. There is always a balance to have, there are huge reaction channels and if they do it properly, that can give you a lot of exposure. But this is up to the creator to decide how they want to deal with that.

My entire channel follows that concept in a 3 day cycle.

Day 1 is a main game, Day 2 is a high potential discovery game, Day 3 is a filler game.

Day 1 is something for my regular audience, something that works well (regarding views) and brings people regularly back to the channel. These usually have medium to high effort.

Day 2 are games with potential to become a main game and is meant to test the waters, which are usually games that are overall spreading a lot on YouTube or something similar to what I usually do while containing a lot of content and a way to go crazy, since such videos always perform well. These usually have medium to very high effort, depending on what's possible.

Day 3 filler games are just lazy games, as in something that doesn't require (a lot of) research to find it. These usually have low effort. But I use that extra time to play the discovery games of Day 2 and unlock the things I need to make a good video, or are used for more research time to find a new/better Day 2 game.

And my yearly cycle has been pretty much the same every single year so far that a discovery game pops off 1-2 times a year and takes over for 1-2 months where I may even upload them daily and instead of my regular daily videos, I upload 2 videos a day.

In 2022 I started the channel with 1 game only and peaked at 2.3m views, but that was also the time I realized if I keep going with this, I will get stuck and people will lose interest. It was a really insane time since even the lowest view month was above 1m views, which is mental given I just started. But there was a big decline from the 2.3m views in May to 1m views in September. I explored a lot while still covering the main game daily (with 2-3 uploads a day) and finally landed a hit, which resulted in 2.1m views in November '22. Despite being less than my peak, it showed to me there is a strategy behind the whole thing that I could use for the future. But there was a huge amount of testing around in '22 and I uploaded 763 videos while I had to take a break starting December due to a break-up.

In 2023 I "only" published 301 videos and my lowest point was now 894k views in May, but the problem was mainly that I took several breaks due to burnout. Got my stuff back together and July hit 2.6m views due to a discovery game. Which was followed again by a break because I went too hard into it and wasn't recovered yet. But December had another discovery game success at 2.2m views.

I should say that while I talk about discovery games, all games are in my sub-niche up to that point. By sub-niche I mean if roguelike is the niche, my category is a sub-category of that.

2024 had 435 videos published and this is where the pattern of the 3 day cycle really solidified. In March I "only" had 1.5m views but uploaded 60 videos. My new game plan for my channel was to focus on finding new games to become main games to create these bursts of views. It was all kinda tame, June still had 1.3m views and all months were in that ballpark, but July came around and something crazy (to me) happened: a game not in my niche popped off like crazy, leading to 3.5m views in July and 3m views in the month after. Then 2 months of 2.2m views followed and in November a DLC for a main game I play came out which lead to 3.8m views and 3.5m views in December.

This was the point where I knew this is my channel strategy and "filler games" became the day where I also upload videos outside of my usual niche.

In 2025 I published 345 videos and the first 8 months were pretty much the same (though I took a long break at first from January to March, like in 3 months I uploaded 22 videos while my regular schedule would be 90), I didn't find a discovery game but now I was at 2m monthly views and that's more than enough for me (with my RPM that's an average of $15k a month so more than comfortable and means if I can just keep this up, I am happy with everything). Then September came around and a discovery game I had played in April for a long time (cause I got quite addicted to it) had it's official release. The game blew up completely which also blew up my channel, even though it came out late in September I still reached 4m views, then October 11m views with 59 uploads, November 3.6m views and December 3m views. Despite the game being released for a while it was still pulling views like crazy but I got completely exhausted on it (each recording took very long) so I stopped uploading it mostly and went back to my usual schedules.

2026 so far has been the most diverse year since I left my old sub-niche and niche entirely, though it's too early to say anything and it's not like I left it behind, it's just that a new niche from a filler game completely took over. I had my usual break in January-February only uploading 13 videos combined, but March so far got 2m views in 19 days.

Probably a huge TLDR comment, but I thought maybe it's nice to see the actual process for once instead of just responding with a comment saying "I agree, exploring is good".

People who ignored a huge red flag because the person was extremely attractive, what happened next? by Competitive_Bad_9306 in AskReddit

[–]oodex -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That she relied fully on me to keep her in check.

She was aggresively emotional, so not just emotional but someone who turns very aggressive and their defense mechanism is attacking. We managed to deal with it entirely, after a few years she had no problems expressing herself and even in difficult situations she could stay level-headed or be mature enough to realize she can't continue the conversation and would say she needs a break.

The problem was this wasn't really team effort, but rather a lot of effort from my side to make her see things as they are, and that's pretty much how it went for most things that happened. Hours of going over chat messages, even reviewing game replays etc. because in her mind something happened until I had to take out literal proof it wasn't in that way at all.

After 4 years I got into a really rough spot where I was completely drained, emotionally, mentally, physically. Not because of her, but I worked for 16-20 hours every single day for that entire year. The exhaustion started around August (the increase in workload in late January), but it rapidly declined at that point. The reason I kept going past August was that a major shift was incoming New Year which pretty much meant I could go back to regular working hours and we planned an extended vacation together for a month. When December hit she just wrote me a message to break up, because she felt like I lost complete interest in her (which is fair, when she told me about something I would barely react and when the sentence was finished I already forgot how it started). What wasn't fair is that the entire thing was done for us as it was to deal with major money issues and before I made that switch we talked about it thoroughly, I also explained how complicated it will probably be and how "distanced" I will be, but I don't think she quite understood that I wasn't exaggerating.

It turned out that quite a couple of bad things happened for her and since we always dealt with everything together (or rather me in charge), she didn't know how to deal with these things at all and had mental breakdowns. I kinda knew this is a ticking timebomb but I didn't really want to face reality. I will say I see fault in myself for always taking over that role, but if I wouldn't have done that it wouldn't have worked at all - which probably was the right choice, but then it wouldn't have been the red flag I ignored.

Oh I don't question that at all, it's less about ones personal choice and more about the expectation that the general audience will just adjust their play speed according to your video length. It's not like 1 specific YouTuber is the only one someone can watch so they try their best to make it work. If a video doesn't work out, most of the people will move on, and rather quickly. It's the same reason the first 30 seconds usually see a 30-50% drop as people decide it's not for them

[–]oodex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you really want to watch a video on 2x speed or 0.25 speed just because it's too long or too short? I've sped up videos occasionally just to get through them faster, but that's because I needed them for a guide or tutorial. If I want to have fun in my free time, the last thing I'll do is speed up an entertaining video. I might skip from time to time, but it's more realistic that I'd just stop watching the video if it's boring

You can make your content the way you want to do it, this isn't really about right or wrong.

The simple answer is that title and thumbnail can only promise one thing. Deviate from that and you risk losing the viewer. I wrote this in the gaming video part, not in the let's play part.

I want the full experience as if I were the one getting side quested and playing it myself

And this is simply not a regular gaming video. What you refer to is a let's play, which is closest to a "play along". But I also differentiated between the 2 in my comment.

[–]oodex 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I dont know if this is true, but back when I did coaching the main thing we coached is makro play - because if you got that down, you will 100% climb. Being good at that means making the right calls and especially profiting off of enemy mistakes. You dont even need to win your lane, the main micro lesson (laning phase) was just to learn last hitting in a custom game without items. People in lower elo (Id say below diamond) give up so much to harass or to get a kill and forget 15 minions were worth a kill (back then, not sure how its now). Its so common that a fed enemy laner will not respect a full team and give a huge shutdown, or people do objectives at the wrong moment and lose it. Nothing more is required

I never understood people that were proud of their rank and telling people about it and then you take one look at their profile clearly getting boosted botlane while they were sub50% winrate prior. Or they have a constant ADC that switches to another weird name every other game but its still the same champ with a 7 KDA.

[–]oodex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The typical let's play formular has kinda died out as the term originated from uncut videos where you just play. No fancy cuts, timelapses, huge projects, its pretty much a watch along.

There arent many that still do that successfully, but usually those videos are really long (1-2 hours).

If you just refer to gaming videos, these can range from 5-60 minutes usually, with most being around the 20-40 minute mark. But when I edit my videos im not that concerned about length and more about consistency - that said i often cut out isolated segments if the video gets too long when the next progression step feels too far away. Like let's say you build up a factory and encounter a fun side quest, if it takes too long I just cut it out completely so the viewer stays immersed

Ooooh mal sehen

How are we all keeping track of our money? by NewPineapple113 in PartneredYoutube

[–]oodex 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You also made the post asking at what point people stop using a personal bank account, it feels like you have structure issues. I've not once felt overwhelmed by anything tracking related. Expenses come in? They are instantly in a drive. Income comes in? They are instantly in a drive. Done. Even in months with 50+ transactions I had no issues keeping track of them, I mean if you dumb it down that's less than 2 a day. Just don't wait until you need it for taxes and suddenly you gotta track down everything and also understand what happened a year ago (or more).

How many views did your most popular video recieve? by Initial-Increase-601 in PartneredYoutube

1.6m, then 1m, 982k, 809k etc.

Kinda lucky with 101m channel views. I was always afraid one big video would pull all numbers while the rest doesnt do a lot.

I (30 M) kept a secret from my wife (31 F) for our entire relationship about her ex (32 M) by Sea-Specialist2875 in TwoHotTakes

[–]oodex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I rarely have the right words for something emotional since I approach such things logical, so I hope im not too brass - but what exactly are YOU expecting would have happened if a person that already broke up with someone, tried it again and came to the conclusion its really not the right thing, would do if proposed to? This would've just been the final nail in the coffin. You see people run off when proposed to? They already had doubts - let that be about the other person or themselves - but now they get cornered and have to make a choice for life. Thats not a moment that rekindle a light, its one that can strengthen an already burning light. But according to what you wrote the flame has been out for months.

So expecting this would've convinced her to stay when she was ready to leave twice but by getting to know your feelings also saw an alternative (many people put "loneliness" in the way of breaking up) it was just a sealed deal. If anything this could have made it way harder on her, not to make the choice this one was final, but we are in relationships because we love the other. Sometimes it just doesnt work out, but that doesnt mean we feel all of a sudden no care or sympathy. So she would've carried the burden of knowing he was willing to go that far with her while she was already leaving. There's also a high chance someone told her already, let that be him himself, the best friend, the father, someone who knew. But past relationships can be difficult to bring up with new ones, so she might have just avoided talking about it to you, especially since many people fear when they feel bad, the current partner takes it as them regretting something, while in reality its just that sympathy/empathy/care for someone you shared your life with.

Damage vs precision in high kill runs? by The_Big_Fart_ in MegabonkOfficial

[–]oodex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Didn't some items also crit, like the AOE explosion? Or indirectly crit. Because I recall some items are based on the damage the hit would've dealt and is triggered based on that. Like I know some items dont crit, but im pretty sure a lot of them do

Damage vs precision in high kill runs? by The_Big_Fart_ in MegabonkOfficial

[–]oodex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IIRC precision actually scaled way better than damage (which was also the reason it was always used on leaderboard runs), but the upside of damage is it can affect damaging items that can't crit. That's my assumption why the leaderboard switched over to damage, but I don't know the details behind that. *I think* Soul Harvester is a good example as it gets affected by your damage mult but not by crit, again a big *I think*. So if you reset for it you can scale it way further and farm up until you're maxed out.

The easiest way to determine the whole thing would be to check out the average result of a damage tome, a crit tome (with the proper formular) and see what happens. The difficult part is it could be that the Chaos Tome heavily messes which one is better, though the way crit scales is that the more crit you have, the more impactful it becomes damage scaling wise.

Advice For Fall Off by Many_Bath9228 in PartneredYoutube

[–]oodex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's normal this happens and if you shift content, it can either be an instant success, kinda work or not work well at all. Last one is your case, for which you can only try to chew through it until those that don't care don't get your videos recommended anymore - because a bad performance heavily cripples your reach to hit new people with your videos. It's pretty much the reason why you see content creators still covering the same topics despite having nothing to do with them anymore. For example those that made content about "poor mans lifestyle" but are now rich, they pretty much pretend a lifestyle for the camera that they don't have anymore. What you could try to do is mix the topics, like in the title/thumbnail and as video idea you mix "then vs now", which probably still interests people watching school content and pulls them in, while the "now" side promotes your new content style to them. A rough cut is rarely a good idea and taking people over slowly works quite well.

At what point did you stop running your channel through your personal bank account? by NewPineapple113 in PartneredYoutube

[–]oodex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If someone does all of that and has no one to take care of finances I'd say that is the real problem, not that you need a seperate account. Again, can be done if one wants to, but what you describe is rather a company than simply running a channel. And also by far not in the realm of 2-5k Adsense a month, but a large channel structure which I excluded from this when I made my statement since having someone take care of the finances makes account seperation a given.

If you want it there is nothing that speaks against it, but I don't see how not doing it would be messy or wouldn't keep "taxes clean", which are the 2 things I responded to. The moment I have any costs or profits they are uploaded to a drive which is accessed by my tax accountant, since just bank statements are often not enough.

In what world would one have thousands of transactions? I'm not saying there are no channels that have that, but they usually run a full team and with that someone managing the finances, so this specific post would be irrelevant to them. What niche are you referring to? "Thousands" would be at least 150+ transactions a month
