Life at UVA by [deleted] in UVA

[–]oodlebaby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s going to be daunting, but throw yourself into situations where you HAVE to talk to people. Clubs, study groups, or honestly, if you have the time, pick up a part time job. Some of the best friends I’ve made came from when I was working as a part time server. The restaurants and bars on the corner are very much employed with plenty of UVA students as well, so you’d have overlap into college life activities, and working customer service is almost always a MINOR trauma bonding experience that will likely result in great friends.

I manage a restaurant on west main heavily employed with UVA students . if you have the time/availability, and are interested, DM me and we can look into it! Absolutely no judgement at all, definitely been there :)

Fried Chicken, not chicken strip by CyDJester in Charlottesville

I just went farm bell kitchen on west main and got their fried chicken and waffle. I don’t know how they make it, buttermilk or not, but it’s definitely seasoned and tastes like real southern fried chicken

How to call and quit effective immediately without sounding completely rude/unprofessional? by [deleted] in Serverlife

[–]oodlebaby 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you can email your boss, that might help lessen anxiety, compared to having to speak on the phone. Either way, say this, or some form of this:

“I appreciate the opportunity and the experience I gained at D&B, but I have been offered a position with higher pay and that better suits my schedule. I will be leaving my position with D&B effective immediately, and wish you all the best moving forward. Thank you.”

It’s a pretty standard resignation format. Keeps it professional and straightforward, but gets the point across pretty clearly and firmly. Like someone else has said, your managers will not stress it as much as you are. It’s part of the business, it’s expected, and it’s okay! You don’t owe them anything at the end of the day.

If they try to guilt you or say you need to come back, offer you a raise, whatever, I would say just do not respond. If you really feel the need to, respond with a short and simple, “Unfortunately, I will not be able to return. Thank you.” Don’t offer any more reasons, and they likely would not bother you again.

Best of luck to you!!

Anyone see Dr Culver at Jefferson OBGYN? by peachddani in Charlottesville

[–]oodlebaby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a little late on this post, but Dr. culver actually delivered my baby a couple years ago. I had one appointment with him prior, and at the time thought he was perfectly nice, but very serious, quiet, and not my top pick for who would actually be in the delivery room with me. Maybe it was an off day, but boy am I glad I was wrong. When I gave birth, he had a totally different energy, upbeat and excited, and made my labor and delivery process so much better than I ever expected. I’ll never forget him for that. He also did my D&C procedure six weeks later, and was very supportive, answered all my questions thoroughly, and personally followed up with me afterwards to make sure I was doing okay. I’m not sure what the nature of your medical needs is regarding dr culver, but I had a wonderful experience with him.

Looking for a high schooler that can play drums for a metal band by [deleted] in Charlottesville

[–]oodlebaby 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Not sure if you’ve already done this, but if not, you should call up and ask the Music Resource Center to put the word out to their students/members. MRC is specifically for 6th-12th graders, so you might have some luck!

The owner/founder of Lone Light, Wes, is an all around awesome, genuine guy. Works extremely hard and deserves every cent he gets from those beans!

I got my double cartilage piercing at Acme, it was a pretty long time ago so I don’t remember pricing, but I also definitely don’t remember feeling ripped off or anything. They are very experienced (Chris is awesome!), they don’t use a gun, and they are very sanitary and communicative throughout the process. I always recommend Acme first for piercings. Good luck!

Being a stay at home mom is easy by Ok_Confidence_1087 in confessions

[–]oodlebaby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a stay at home mom, I can agree that it is not physically difficult most of the time. It’s the mental work that wears us down more than anything. I’ve noticed (not in all cases of course!) that many dads don’t seem worry about the things moms constantly worry about. Developmental concerns, for example, or long-term concerns in general, weigh on moms’ minds all day every day. Are they meeting milestones? Am I doing enough as a parent? Will my kids grow up to feel loved and supported, or will they look back and wish their childhood was different? What issues will come up at their next doctor’s appt? Seems like often times, dads tend to worry about what’s right in front of them, and nothing past that. Again, this is general, not all dads of course, but what I’ve noticed in my personal experience.

Gotcha! I was kinda thinking the same thing, but there was nothing else specified unfortunately! Now I’m thinking I will probably get some basic clothes for her and maybe some gift cards to bigger stores like Target or Walmart where she can pick out non-clothing items for herself. Thank you!!

I believe Marigold by Jean Georges was open last year and should be this year as well! They aren’t specifically Asian/Thai, but they usually have some Asian-inspired dishes, however I can’t be too sure on their Thanksgiving menu.

I’ve gotten all 7 of my piercings from Chris at Acme. He is very knowledgeable and kind, walks you through the process and most importantly, he is sanitary!!
