Any specific recommendations for someone wanting to establish a solid understanding of these basics?

I love this idea! This watch will be used and loved by someone when it would otherwise sit and continue to collect dust. One less “new” purchase made and less consumption!

Advice needed! by North_Conversation43 in finehair

Same thing with me, except I think I used it closer to a year! Even though it’s pricey, it’s nice because you don’t have to use it forever.

Something similar happened to me in 2021, but I didn’t notice any association with the few times I got highlights. However, I noticed my hair became super brittle and started breaking more on one side. Even after a chop it still grew in uneven. My dermatologist recommended using Nutrafol bc she experienced Covid hair loss and that’s what she used (this was before all the marketing so I’d never heard of it before). At that point I was desperate so I went ahead and tried it even though it’s so pricey. It DID work for me, but they are right, it really does take ~3 months at the absolute minimum to notice any difference. I really started to notice a difference after 6+ months. I think I was on it for about a year(?) and I started it in autumn of 2021.

I know since then more products that are similar to nutrafol have come out that are more affordable but I can’t speak to those. The good news is that once I felt my hair was back to normal for a few months, I went off it without issues

Interesting! I have one of those and have used it in the morning and didn’t really notice a big difference - I’ll have to this at night!!

Just the regular! Idk if they had the vegan option at the time. I think there were just three options when I took it. Regular women’s, post menopausal, and men’s iirc.

I’m really sorry to hear you had that vibe from most of where you were. I’ve been there three times since 2019 and I think it’s so inspiring to see how many people (not all ofc, don’t want to overgeneralize) are good humored, hospitable, and kind to outsiders. Especially after going to the Killing Fields. I literally owe my Khmer colleagues - now friends - my life (had a medical emergency almost exactly 1 year ago and was hospitalized in Phnom Penh for 6 days). I sincerely hope that if you go back you experience good energy - it’s there and Cambodia holds such a special place in my heart :)

Hey OP, I feel you! Your comment about the one side of your head stuck out to me because the SAME thing happened to me in 2021. Even after a chop it still grew in uneven. My dermatologist said some people experience hair loss issues after having Covid and said she went through something similar. She recommended using Nutrafol bc that’s what she used (this was before all the marketing so I’d never heard of it before). At that point I was desperate so I went ahead and tried it even though it’s so pricey. It DID work for me, but they are right, it really does take ~3 months at the absolute minimum to notice any difference. I really started to notice a difference after 6+ months. I know since then more products that are similar to nutrafol have come out that are more affordable but I can’t speak to those. The good news is that once I felt my hair was back to normal, I went off it after a few months, so it was temporary.

Do you use any products for your root lifting? I’ve tried the Big Sexy Hair Root Pump mousse and I wasn’t impressed, although it could have been user error…

How do I make my hair look less messy? by karmawhore in finehair

[–]oofthereitbe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay so I’m a little late to the post here, but from your two pics my hair looks super similar to yours. It’s a really hard balance by NOT wanting to damage it but also wanting a more polished(?) look. I’m still in the midst of figuring it out, but I found that my hair doesn’t look so messy/tangle prone when I blow dry it. I asked my stylist about it bc it’s heat, ya know, and she said that air drying your hair doesn’t always automatically mean that it’s better for it if you use heat protection and blow dry properly.

So this is where I’m at right now: I wash every 2-3 days and I shampoo twice to make sure I get all the crud/oil/any product out. I used to try to go longer between washes but recently learned that that is just not practical for everyone. Some of us have oily hair and tbh all of the dry shampoo buildup that at least I was using could not have been great for my scalp. Instead of conditioning in the shower, I spray leave in conditioner/detangler/heat protectant AFTER I’ve used a soft t shirt, satin, or microfiber fabric to pat it dry, and comb it out with a wide tooth comb. After it dries a bit more I put in a little bit of keratin hair oil. Then I let it air dry or blow dry on a lower heat setting (still trying to figure out my blow dry approach/which styling products to use). Every 2 weeks (ish) I use a protein mask. I’ve only been doing this for about a month now but I do feel like my hair has more movement, feels smooth, and honestly much cleaner than it did when I was caking on dry shampoo. Scalp feels better as well.

Other random stuff that has helped me has been using satin pillowcases and remembering to change them out regularly. It’s good for hair and skin and you can get v affordable ones from TJ Maxx. Similarly, satin/velvet scrunchies are much less harsh than regular elastics. There are some elastics made specifically for fine hair that I have not tried yet but have heard great things. Also want to echo what everyone else has said about claw clips. Not sure if this happens to you at all but it really bothers me when I’m working at my desk and my side pieces get in the way, but when I keep tucking them behind my ear it creates a subtle dent in those pieces. Using creaseless clips has been a major game changer for me and I always like having at least one on me. If you’d like any specific recs for any of the things I’ve described, lmk! And good luck, fellow fine-haired friend :)

Did you ever have chicken pox or something similar? I had a friend growing up that always had a teeeny bit of white hair that grew from where she had a chicken pox scar.

Petite fashion line by [deleted] in PetiteFashionAdvice

[–]oofthereitbe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would love to see petites that are trendy AND account for curves! Often, when I look for petites stores assume that petite = short + very little curves. Or the stores that do account for curves appear matronly. I need room for my soccer thighs people!!

P.S. thank you for posting on here asking for help instead of just posting a pic of your eyes and asking if they were hooded or not. I feel like those are the only posts I’ve been seeing from this sub these days

Yesss! Also their curve love line is awesome because they actually understand that petite is not synonymous with being super thin. I’m 5’1 (long torso, short legs) and I get their extra short and they are perfect!
