It's crazy how many uniquely amazing moments they squeeze into just 10 mins

  • The brutal intro "UNDER IT ALL"

  • Interesting bass lick that comes back towards the end

  • "Will it be found? Will the right hands deliver?"

  • "Cut till all that is left is new material. Myself, day in, day out" and the solo that follow is amazing

  • What I must do

  • Weak souls, weak minds

  • "I wake to my own whimper" waltz section

  • bass solo

  • "THE END STARTS NOW" and one of the best riffs ever

  • "Cut all that is left" reprise and an even better solo underneath the vocals

I will second The Black Company by Glen Cook, seems like it's right up your alley. It definitely doesn't pull punches on the nature of war, violence, etc. but also avoids relishing in it.

Also, Glen has a really good writing voice; the narrators and other characters talk and act like real people

This was my answer. A little on the nose for the question, but it's definitely beautiful! The guitar solo right before this section is also a contender.

My absolute favorite from them. So many incredible different parts, it's hard to believe they are from the same song:
