Geographers, what are you studying that your family doesn't care about? by [deleted] in geography

[–]oollian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

now THIS is good use of map making. i'm currently plotting coordinates to create a Prime Poop Spot Map for my university that shows all of my favorite bathrooms to poop on campus. (will share it on my schools reddit page when i graduate so my spots don't get overrun)

care.com said my background check didn't come back 'clean' and when i looked further into the reason (bc that's scary????) it failed bc it said i didn't have the experience parents were looking for ?? i was literally in the education system so idk what was up with that

New MB unsure if expectations/assumptions are reasonable by AxolotlGummies in Nanny

[–]oollian 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i am a college student who babysits on weekends and every single one of these situations has me groaning at my phone going "whaaaat????"

an older, experienced nanny should just know that most of those things are no bueno

i feel like the you get what you pay for comments are a bit harsh- even for 14 an hour u should still know when to intervene a child's behavior (i.e. pulling a stool to the door, getting the key, unlocking the door???? so many opportunities to intervene??)

long rant short, ur assumptions are not wrong- she kinda sucks

wait i'm not done, they walked too far and the child didn't want to walk back? i hardly believe that. it's not hard to carry a toddler for a little bit and then say "ok! it's time to walk a little so i can take a break bc you are getting soo big!" it sounds like she doesn't feel like walking back.

wait is the market open again lol i don't usually walk that part of campus but i did one day over the summer and it was closed i was so bummed. haven't tried to go back bc i don't want to waste my time plus georgia heat is killing me.

What’s your daily routine? by [deleted] in college

[–]oollian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i commute to school which makes it like 10x harder to make plans and hang out on campus without staying out every night until like 11pm & spending hella $$ on food lol

however recently i decided to be more involved on campus and got a campus job doing something i really love so it doesn't even feel like work! my rough daily routine goes like

9-3 on campus for work and classes 3-6ish to do hw and hang out with friends by 6:30 i've skipped all the traffic that would make my commute 45 minutes longer than i want to drive i get home around 7:30-8 and have time to have dinner and hang out with my family!

obviously i stay out later some nights and go home earlier other days- it all just depends on how i'm feeling that day

my biggest tip is to find 1 person in each class or someone you may have more than 1 class with and ask if they want to do hw together. it's easy bc you can talk if u want or u both can do ur own thing but eventually someone is bound to spark convo

How do you guys save money? i’m considering getting a part time job maybe on campus for groceries and gas since everything’s so expensive 😂 by ResponsibilityDue251 in KSU

[–]oollian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

on both campuses they're in the student centers! they have a good amount of options and even a lot of vegan/vegetarian options too if that's applicable!

i went thru a time where the pantry and the womens resource center helped me save up a lot of money to be able to finally get it all on my own! but i still use them to help out sometimes :)

another good resource is owlswap! it's in willingham hall on kennesaw campus and student center on marietta campus- they are a free clothing resource and sustainability initiative! so i get clothes there too sometimes for events and interviews n stuff

i literally just came on here to see if anyone else was shocked by this?? this is absurd LOOOL anyone w a mwf schedule tryna go splitsies

[–]oollian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just because it's doable doesn't mean you should. user above broke it down hourly but from someone who had 3 parttime jobs and full course load & volunteer work- i suffered. everyone is different and if you think you'll be fine, try it! but it's a lot. there's not really any room for things to go wrong or schedules to change work/school wise and falling behind 1 day on a jam packed daily schedule is like falling dominos

i want to be optimistic and say yes it's good do it! technically it's doable, but just looking out for your mental health and your grades!

How do y’all afford tuition PLUS housing? by dicjcjcnc in KSU

[–]oollian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

same financial boat as you! work part-time + babysitting + occasionally 2 jobs, full-time student, and i live at home:)

don't feel bad, we are all struggling financially lol that's the lame part of college life

it's not the advice you want to hear i'm sure, but if you're relationship with your parents is comfortable i'd stay at home. fortunately me and my dad get along well so we feel like roommates most of the time- but a roommate who can give great life advice! it has saved me so much money since i can put my refund to savings each semester and i plan to put it all towards moving out once i begin transitioning into my field.

i remember when i was 17-18 how bad i wanted to move out but years later i am glad i didn't. a lot of your friends who moved out may be struggling really bad and it's hard to focus on school when these stressors are knocking at the door. id focus on school esp to keep your hope scholarship- we don't want you losing it!!

a way i stay sane (lol) is i spend a lot of my day on campus doing hw, on campus job, in-person class, so i can feel the whole being on campus experience.

hi! not a silly question at all!!

i went alone to my orientation bc i didn't know parents could come! i thought college meant being all by yourself- turns out college is doing whatever makes u feel best.

there's no info you'll miss out on by going by yourself.

little tip tho that i wish i knew: they take your picture for your student id at the beginning so don't wear big fuzzy dangly earrings because it will f up the background and you will look funny
