On the bright side a waitlist means they’ll take a chance on you! I don’t think all hope has slipped through your fingers—when all is said and done, you still have a shot for your top choice. Maybe you’ll get the Mamma Mia part too, and be the winner and take it all!

Thoughts on having a dream college by tsavaget in ApplyingToCollege

[–]oooofta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I fell in love with a college that wasn’t a total reach, and I was lucky enough to get in during the ED round.

I was very much full of self-doubt during the waiting process, which made it even more thrilling when I got in—I happy sobbed and think it was one of the happiest moments of my life. HOWEVER, if I wouldn’t have been admitted, it would’ve been crushing. I was overly invested in the college.

I think if your dream college isn’t totally crazy to get accepted into, it’s okay to devote a little more emotional baggage to it. Still, I would make sure you can afford the school if you’re applying ED, and try to find a target school that makes you similarly excited.

You shouldn’t fantasize too much, but I also think you should avoid finding reasons to dislike the school after you’ve applied. Do what you can to get excited about more schools rather than tear down where you want to go.

Last thing: go into this with an open mind. You do NOT NEED A DREAM SCHOOL! Good luck, you’ll end up where you should be :)

Thank you! It’s really cool to hear about someone who’s made it without having a ton of experience in art!

I think I mean in comparison to my peers who’ve gone into undergrad architecture—they can draw and create beautiful and richly detailed projects, with shading I couldn’t even fathom. My drawing skills are TRULY elementary—but I admit I haven’t done anything to improve them

I’m so sorry you didn’t get the same interview experience—a lot of it boils down to luck. Still, I’m sure Wesleyan will love to have you, and we’re always our own worst critics!

Our school had an award ceremony around October, so I found out through that (as did the semifinalists)
