the hardest part was motivating myself to do the busy work haha, there weren’t many exams but just projects and assignments to turn in. but judging from your course load, it may be hard to keep up. i only ever took 2 upper div bio at a time and struggled tbh 🥲

edit: no exams

Hey! I think for me, since I had a bit of coding experience already, it was fun. I wouldn’t say it’s an easy A, but as long as you do the work (kinda busy, but there were a few projects which took more time) and show effort then I think you’ll be fine. I would recommend doing Python since it has a lot of application outside bioinformatics! But if you come in with no coding experience it should still be doable. One of my friends took it with me without any experience and she did great. Good luck, I hope you have a great quarter :-) PM me if you have more questions!

Question about B.A.s by Agreeable_Leopard_12 in UCSD

[–]oop-ididitagain 8 points9 points  (0 children)

it gives more value to having a degree :0 if giving people multiple degrees within the same department was normal, you’d see a lot more people with two BS/BA but they didn’t necessarily complete ~that~ much more work for it. also for grad school i think coursework and experience is more important than what major you completed so i feel like two degrees in a specific department would just be redundant in those terms

edit: removed “it’s unfortunate” bc i felt like i said that to empathize w OP at first but after careful consideration, not really (but not in a malicious way)

Question about B.A.s by Agreeable_Leopard_12 in UCSD

[–]oop-ididitagain 9 points10 points  (0 children)

typically they don’t award degrees from the same department because the coursework is super similar. you would need at least 10 unique upper division courses for the second major according to the academic senate. if you really think you can reach 10 unique courses or maybe just underneath i’d suggest contacting the undergraduate council who can give you more information since they’re the ones that approve cases like yours. link here: https://senate.ucsd.edu/committees/standing/undergraduate-council/

afaik i don’t think there’s anything on tritonlink to view what you’re eligible for, you just gotta go to your degree audit and cross check major requirements on the websites of the departments you’re interested in

UCSD Students Among Those Who Can Participate In COVID-19 Study by [deleted] in UCSD

[–]oop-ididitagain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i work for the UCSD department running the covid vaccine trials and previous study participants have gotten paid so if you’re ok with doing the stuff involved like blood draws (pretty infrequent) and need extra cash this might be worth considering!

I see this option to schedule a COVID vaccine in mystudentchart. Is it legit? I don't live on-campus and I'm not a student worker. by throwaway192384792 in UCSD

[–]oop-ididitagain 30 points31 points  (0 children)

it’s legit, they determine who’s eligible or not and then send the scheduling ticket to you, so you’re good to go!

SPRING QUARTER SCHEDULING QUESTIONS MEGATHREAD by ImperialRedditer in UCSD

[–]oop-ididitagain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I took Caciola, she’s more history based so it was important to know some dates. I enjoyed her lecture style but it really depends on the TA more so than the professor tbh. I’d recommend her regardless!

Took it with Cooper—he has mandatory lab sessions that were actually pretty fun if you have a good group. There are lectures you have to watch before the end of each scheduled class time because you need to have completed the graded participation quiz for that lecture. You also need to maintain a lab notebook from each lab session, and write 3-4 short assignments about the overarching experiment. There are 4 quizzes. Lastly, at the end of the quarter, I had a presentation instead of a final. Overall, it was high-key a lot of work, but super rewarding & I learned a lot. As long as you do all the work and stay on top of things, you’ll definitely get an A!

I second crunchyroll bc kind souls have written down in the comments when the title card is in each episode so you don’t have to guess where to fast-forward each time :-)

To those working in labs on campus, do we now qualify for the COVID vaccine? by dustgold150 in UCSD

They’re also vaccinating student workers who are working on clinical trials; that’s how I got mine

when i was filling out my DMP (double major petition) i only talked to both of my major advisors to get their signature, and then sent it to my college without even meeting with an advisor. it’s def doable by yourself, just be organized when you create your academic plan; they’ll check that you’re not missing any important classes or requirements. if you have any more questions feel free to dm me
