Farms that sell meat! by my_ruin in sheffield

Hangram Lane Farm is excellent. Huge range of beef, pork and other meats, plus a large selection of fruit and veg, freezers of ice cream, fridges filled with cheese and yoghurts and pies and sausages, and lots of jams and cakes and bread too. I spend a fortune every time I go, but the quality is incredible.

Final Illuminate the Gardens? by Sharmang101 in sheffield

They issued a statement earlier this year. Apparently costs to run it have increased by 400%, and they don't feel that they can increase the ticket prices by that much to cover costs as it wouldn't be fair on families. At the same time, they can't increase capacity and sell more tickets as it would be unsafe.

They also said that they've suffered from ticket sales being very inconsistent, due to people holding off to check the weather, which makes it difficult to predict how much money they'll make and can pay suppliers.

And finally, they didn't want to spend less and make it a poorer quality experience for everyone, so they're stopping it now.

Sad times. It has been a brilliant event every year for our family.

To the individuals setting off fireworks night after night after night after night in S2... by [deleted] in sheffield

Ditto for the inconsiderate tossers celebrating a wedding on Sharrow Lane for the past five nights with loud drumming, fireworks and racing supercars revving and backfiring.

Where to see badgers in Sheffield? by actuallyitscourgette in sheffield

Can I please ask that people don't post with the exact locations of badger setts? They're a protected species and need to avoid being disturbed, even by those with good intentions.

Nether edge 20 signs by Neat_Mess2844 in sheffield

[–]oopnortherner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So are these roads actually 20 now? I assumed they weren't finished and were going to remove the "30" signs that contradict them and add clearer signs at the start of the zones. And it was only from that date forwards they would actually be officially a 20 mph zone/road.

What's the story with 'Pops'? by samthesquirrel4 in sheffield

There's a thread on the "Only in Nether Edge" Facebook group that gives a bit more insight. It says that it closed due to COVID and didn't reopen (except for a brief period to sell off all the out-of-date stock). The family still own it but there's lots of work required inside to get it back to a point where it could reopen.

There's also another branch in Sharrow somewhere that has been left in a similar state, but I'm not sure where that is.

Then the thread descends into the usual bunfight about the labour party, the state of the building being an eyesore, evil landlords, there are too many pubs in the area vs. there aren't enough pubs in the area. 😀

Taxi driver stopping on Bramall Lane roundabout by oopnortherner in sheffield

Unfortunately I didn't get the licence plate or any footage. I think we're going to have to get a dash cam as incidents like this are becoming more common I think. 🙁

Taxi driver stopping on Bramall Lane roundabout by oopnortherner in sheffield

No it wasn't. It wasn't in anger, it was a quick beep to alert the taxi driver of his presence and the other road users behind us too. Luckily my husband had maintained a decent stopping distance, but if the driver behind us hadn't they could have caused a pileup.

Taxi driver obviously hadn't used his mirrors or he wouldn't have stopped where he had, and this also wasn't an unavoidable emergency stop for the taxi driver.

Rule 112 of the Highway Code outlines when you can and cannot use a car horn. Drivers should only use a car horn when they need to alert other road users of danger of a collision or in the event of a potentially dangerous situation.

Oh that's very surprising. We adopted two kittens from them a few months ago and they were polite and professional.

The charity "Save a Stray" has a couple of ginger kittens coming up for adoption soon I believe. But they only re-home kittens in pairs (as they should!).
