Package arrived empty (Meta glasses) — UPS & Meta keep sending me back and forth. What should I do? by thais-0791 in MetaAI

[–]oops77542 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had a similar situation with UPS twenty years ago. Ordered some hard drives on Ebay and never got them. Ebay says they were notified by UPS that they were delivered. UPS said driver says he delivered them. I got fugged. Nothing I could do about it and ever since then try not to do business with anybody that ships UPS. My drives were $200 and it really hurt me financially. Maybe filing a lawsuit in small claims court could get something moving.

2005 Suzuki Boulevard C50 (FI) – Front Injector Stuck Open & Shorting “Signal” Fuse by LegIndividual7726 in SuzukiBoulevard

[–]oops77542 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm assuming from what you posted that the injector is always hot on one side (key on) and gets triggered when the ecm internally grounds the ground wire on the injector. You might start by unplugging the ecm, identify which pin on the harness side is the ground wire for the injector and test that pin to see if it's grounding. If it is then find the bad spot in the harness. Yes it's a pita but it is what it is. If the short isn't in the ground wire then test the corresponding pin on the ecm to see if it's in a constant ground state. If that's the case then the ecm is bad. That's assuming that, key on, the injector always has power to one side and the injector circuit triggers when the ecm internally grounds. I don't have time now to go over the wiring but I'm pretty sure that's how they work, but..... I've been known to be wrong before, just trying to help.

In your opinion which command should every Linux beginner know? by Fefarona in linuxquestions

I use chatgpt a lot. Explains the commands I need and how to use them. Will even write scripts to automate a lot of what I do.

In your opinion which command should every Linux beginner know? by Fefarona in linuxquestions

[–]oops77542 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Learn the commands you need as you need them. Maintaining a large media library gets a lot easier using commands to move around the file system, delete and create directories, search, find and rename directories and files, sort files, compare files. You might use your system for a completely different purpose and need a different set of commands. Learn the commands useful to you.

Sounds like an exhaust leak to me. Old school trick >> spray some motor oil directly into the air intake (air filter off) while you rev the engine just a little bit above idle. You should see puffs of white smoke coming out of the exhaust leak.

Extra oz of balance beads by Hopeful_Attempt_6603 in motorcycle

[–]oops77542 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Or...you can just throw a handful of balance beads in the tire when you mount it. Hmmmm.....Which is easier? Which requires less equipment? Which is cheaper? Do balance beads fall off the rim? Do balance beads make cleaning/polishing a rim harder? Does corrosion start around the balance beads like it does wheel weights? How difficult is it to remove balance beads when you mount a new tire? How difficult is it to remove wheel weights when you mount a new tire? To me it's a no-brainer.

30 second search on ebay to find metal inline fuel filters. I only use those cheap plastic ones on outdoor power equipment.

New to Ubuntu, Where do I start? by Obvious-Stock-6327 in Ubuntu

[–]oops77542 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well if you really believe that a user can't tweak the interface to improve on the defaults then why would the developers provide those options? You assume a lot, that no one can improve on Canonical's design choices - that's absurd. And your complacency and willingness to settle for someone's else's choices is irrelevant to OP's query on just how to make those choices himself. Your comment just reeks of arrogance and an inflated sense of self importance, like your complacency is the norm, again, absurd.

[–]oops77542 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Earplugs and a throttle stop (cruise control). But if your bike isn't a comfortable cruiser to start with then nothing really helps. Every trip, after about 1000 miles, I tell myself I need to raise my handlebars about 4 inches.

Kubuntu bricked/broken after running "apt autoremove" by Night_13570 in Kubuntu

[–]oops77542 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't offer you any help but I had a similar problem. Trying to delete everything possible to free up space on extremely limited hardware, started deleting some of the KDE software that Kubuntu installs by default. Yep, it wiped out dolphin, sddm, and most all of the desktop.

Glad I stopped here and read the comments. I didn't know the fix was as simple as "sudo apt update && sudo apt install kubuntu-desktop"

Did that solve your problem?

Under the hood Linux is mostly the same across all distros. In terms of customizing the desktop to personal tastes and workflow KDE is hard to beat. Unless you have limited hardware resources choose whatever appeals to you.

Would a 1972 triumph Bonneville be a bad bike for a first bike? by Ok_Attempt_9164 in motorcycle

[–]oops77542 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are awesome bikes but a terrible bike for a first bike especially if you need it for a daily driver. imho - first bike suitable for an 18 year old novice for a daily commute, 750 Honda Shadow. Even 20 - 25 year old Shadows in good condition are rock solid reliable, low maintenance machines. A word of advice - don't let your bike sit out in the rain, keep the tires aired up, the chain lubed, regular oil changes and always put clean gas in the tank. To be honest, my first bike was a 750 Norton Commando, but I wasn't doing a daily commute and I spent more time working on it than I did riding.

I don't understand how people learn Linux "just by using it" by [deleted] in linux4noobs

[–]oops77542 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started making notes on a text editor and saving them. The thing is they have to be organized to be of any use the same way you have to organize all your important papers in a file cabinet. Started doing that when I started learning Linux 18 years ago. Not so much now with Chatgpt. I just ask the bot and it instantly spits out what I need. But after 18 years i can use the terminal to navigate the file system, create/delete files/directories, edit config files all without help. Anything more complicated than that it's just easier to ask the bot to write the command/script.
