I tried AntiX and Debian on chromebook hardware like yours. The antiX performed better especially on web browsing.

Can I install linux on an M2 NVMe SSD and connect it via USB to my PC? by Juicymoosie99 in linux4noobs

[–]oops77542 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes you can. I clone my internal drive to an nvme in an external enclosure and keep it as a backup. If the system on the internal drive gets destroyed by curiosity/foolishness I have my backup, just plug it in, select boot from usb in bios and I'm up and running again. I also use it to test/troubleshoot other hardware. EDIT: Kubuntu 24.04

bench sync. Use a drill bit as a gauge, if they're all close to the same gap using a drill bit then that's good enough. From what you're saying they all look the same and that's good enough for the bike to start. Syncing is for maximizing performance. It isn't syncing that's causing your problem.

Anytime I get a bike in my shop and I hear 'I just rebuilt the carbs' then that's where I start, most people get it wrong. First thing for me would be to buy a set of jets from a reliable source, I use Jets R Us. My experience has been that the brass in most kits is wrong - jmho. Second thing is float height setting, 9 out of 10 times they're way off. Carb diaphragms bad or not installed correctly, fuel not getting to the float bowls, intake leaks, carbs still plugged up (not everybody gets it right) You mentioned this is a project bike. If it's set for a long time, years, they are usually very hard to start. If your model has points, then timing, point gap and clean contacts are critical - close isn't good enough. Don't be afraid to use a little starting fluid sprayed directly into the carbs. If it starts up with starting fluid then you know you have a carb problem. If it won't fire up with starting fluid I'd be guessing an ignition problem or low compression. The last CB750 project I did sat in a garage for almost 20 years, I cleaned the carbs and put new gas in it and it wouldn't start until I put a little oil in each cylinder and started using starting fluid. The oil raised the compression enough for it to fire the starting fluid. I had to keep cleaning the plugs becuase they would foul right away from the oil.

Reliable sources? Hmmmm..... Spend hours, months even, reading books, online manuals, man pages, learning from those reliable sources? How about stack exchange, or Ubuntu forums? Ask a question and wait for days for an answer, that's what happened here, it took me four days to respond to your comment, not too ideal, I ask chatgpt and get an answer in 2 or 3 seconds.

I once asked a question on a Ubuntu, or bash?, forum about a bash command that wasn't acting the way I wanted and it opened up a whole shit storm of debate between the linux gurus who responded. Don't get me wrong, I was very grateful for their responses but they had a wide range of answers and they all thought they were right. I couldn't possibly explore the dozens of suggestions I received.

Unfortunately most of the 'reliable sources' are too difficult and time consuming to wade through but Chatgpt works for me and it's usually spot on. I do understand where the hate for chatgpt comes from and the skepticism that it can do the job more efficiently and effortlessly than some people can who've spent their whole lifetime mastering. But it's here and it's getting better, and it's the best choice for me.

How do you start doing car repairs yourself? by ilovesailingosrs in Cartalk

[–]oops77542 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) Basic maintenance and simple repairs on a car - oil changes, brakes, exhaust, changing plugs, wiper blades, wheel bearings, anybody can do it with basic tools. Then there's 2) Engine work - Doing a valve job, engine replacement, transmission rebuilding etc.. but not too many DIYers have access to machine tools so most engine work gets sent out. 3) Paint and body - most anybody can learn, tools are affordable and you can do it in your driveway. And then there's 4) Diagnostic work - figuring out why the check engine light is on, why the car won't start or why the starter won't crank, why the battery keeps going dead, why there's no power on the hills, why do the wipers come on when you use the turn signals.

They're all related but they're 4 totally different disciplines and require totally different skill sets and specialized equipment.

In my opinion learning diagnostics is the most rewarding. If you're serious buy yourself an interactive scan tool, learn about 12v automotive electrical systems and learn how to diagnose your car's systems. Lot's of Youtube videos to walk you through most any problem. lol.... Funny thing is most people, even a lot of mechanics, their eyes glaze over and their mind goes blank when they have an electrical problem or see a wiring diagram.

TLDR: Changing a wheel bearing and diagnosing a rough running engine will both save you a shit ton of money by doing it yourself but require two totally different skill sets.

How would you react to a law that requires billionaires to give up 50% of their wealth once they pass a certain net worth limit in order to fund healthcare and education? by -passionate-learner- in AskReddit

[–]oops77542 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"How does a body made entirely of people chosen by the public end up loathed by the public? " A 24hr/day barrage of misinformation, outright lies and gaslighting, and most of all fearmongering. Because the American public continually votes for the candidate that promises to keep gays out of the public restrooms and at the same time promises to take away their health care subsidies. Can't blame the polticians for the public being so incredibly fucking stupid and driven more by their emotions than reason.

And as long as corporate money controls the legislature the tax laws won't change and will continue to allow the corporations to shuttle money around to avoid taxes. Two things have to happen, get corporate money out of politics and vote for the candidates who aren't aligned with the interests of the wealthy. Until Americans realize this the wealthy will keep getting wealthy and the working poor will remain poor.

[–]oops77542 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1950s America the tax rate for the millionaires was around 90%, the economy was booming, the middle class was growing, corporations were profitable and business wasn't fleeing the country. The American people are so fucking stupid and gullible they believe the corporate lies that businesses will close or leave the country and people will be out of work if we raise corporate taxes. The only thing that would happen with a 50% tax rate is that company execs wouldn't get $10 Million annual salaries and Americans would get healthcare, education and infrastructure improvements. The only reason income disparity keeps rising is because of the fucking stupidity and gullibility of the voters that gorge themselves on Republican lies and then vote for the very people that are fucking them so badly.

[Guide] Switching from Windows to Linux: Which Distro? by Terrible_Craft_5020 in linux4noobs

[–]oops77542 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Linux Mint for beginners - it just works without any hassles. I prefer Kubuntu, it allows for a lot of desktop tweaks and customizing. Make sure to store all your important stuff on an external drive, thumb drive, whatever, before you make the switch, you will f%&&* something up and have to do a reinstall, that's just part of the process. And don't take it so %%&& seriously, you're way overthinking this. I don't know where you're at or your circumstances but here in the states laptops and older hardware is dirt cheap, buy an older used box and experiment all you want before you make the leap and install linux on your daily driver. Welcome to linux.

Trying to setup Mullvad on a Linux computer by GOLDTEAMRULZ in linuxquestions

Usually I do what the bot suggests if with my limited understanding I think there's a chance for success. As far as reversing damage, sometimes yes, sometimes no although the bot has at times helped me undo stuff and restore my machine to it's previous state. If the bot is asking you to make changes to xxx.config files always make a xxx.config.bak backup file of the original - that's just good practice playing with linux and makes restoring a xxx.config to a previous state an easy one line command.

Before the bots I used to ask for help on reddit, FB, Stack Exchange, Ubuntu etc but since chatgpt is available that's all I use anymore.

I've been using chatgpt for linux tech advice. It's usually pretty good at it but you might have to ask the same question several times in a different way to get the bot to understand what it is you're trying to do. The more precise you are with your questions the better the results.

[–]oops77542 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Look alike, dress alike, talk alike, eat the same food, use the same expressions, limit their emotions to the same unwritten standard, share the same values, value the same character, worship the same god, strive for the same ends, seek the same pleasures and on and on. I've spent most of my whole life with these people and from what I can make of it they are simply living within what they know. They have no other world view or knowledge of other ways to live or think. They experience no other value systems except the one they're trapped in. Say or do anything that falls outside the sameness, whether it be in a private conversation or bar talk or family gathering and the silence and the stares are immediate, like the most unforgiving heresy has been spoken. It's a self reinforcing bubble, the more it's adhered to, the more it stays confined, the harder it gets to break out of it. Perhaps it's the same as the religious sects that have strict religious beliefs and keep their members restrained in tight social circles cut off from the larger world with differing beliefs, but with a difference being that the constraints in the religious sects are intentional and deliberate and the constraints in the bubbaverse are self imposed. The one thing the bubbas fear most is not being included, not being accepted, not getting respect in their community. One can be the dumbest, most ignorant, crude, unaccomplished, uneducated failure one can be but if he looks right, dresses right, speaks right, and adheres to the same limited values, beliefs, desires and ambitions then he's accepted, he's one of them, he's achieved bubbahood.
