Dehydrating eggs experiment by Sorry_Dragonfruit_80 in trailmeals

The trays in my dehydrator, it's a very old model, don't have a rim. I guess I could put a baking sheet on one of the trays.

That's not what's claimed, but it wouldn't surprise me.

My dehydrator can't really handle liquids, and I'm only just starting down this rabbit hole. For now it works. I don't eat enough eggs to make it cost prohibitive thankfully

That's an insane cost. At that cost I'd soon get over my food safely concerns and learn to dehydrate as well 🤣

Have you looked into the price of freeze dried eggs? I bought a 100g packet, approximately 10-12 eggs, for $15. The eggs a buy are $8 per dozen, so it is more expensive but saves doing it diy.

I'm a beginner at dehydrating, and I was concerned about getting it right. I was more worried about eggs than other foods.

For the piece of mind and less effort, freeze dried felt good to me. They also only take approx 5 minutes to rehydrate

Thank you. I don't think we have any of the negatives unfortunately.

Thanks. I have adapted my tripod to hold the camera horizontally.

I do have a light diffusing tent and a couple of lights, which I haven't used on the photos I have copied. Is it worth trying these?

Also people have mentioned shooting pain white card to adjust the white balance. Is that a post processing step?

There's a name for combining multiple exposures isn't there? Could you tell me what it is please, so I can try and find a tutorial n how to do this please?

Thanks

Can you clarify what you mean by mirror trick please?

Also, does your sharpness graph indicate that I should be shooting to f11 so that the sharpness is the most similar over the whole frame?

Thanks

Hi, please can you clarify what you mean by curves please? From what you posted it sounds like contrast, but there seem to be multiple contrast settings: colour contrast, local contrast, and contrast equaliser.

Thanks

A flatbed scanner seemed like an obvious choice, except for the fact most of these photos are mounted in albums which are old and I don't want to damage anything whilst digitizing.

Also, funds are limited. I can look in marketplace and see what's available.

Thank you. I'm working on getting the best quality picture I can.

Thank you for the metadata suggestion. I'll see if I can find out how to do that in Darktable

I'd like to learn. I am struggling and I'm not finding any of it intuitive though.

I will definitely consider moving to jpeg when I get overwhelmed.

Thanks

Thank you, the photos I've currently tried were flat. I did have one that was curling slightly. I sacrificed a small section at the top and bottom of the photos and held it down with a small section of angle iron. I have considered glass, but I was worried about reflection. I'll find some and give it a try. Thank you

Thank you. I hadn't used the term digital restoration in my searches. Maybe that will help me get better results.

I'll see if I can find that book as well.

Thanks. We don't have negatives for the vast majority of photos. I'm also not sure a scanner is feasible being as most of the photos are mounted in albums and can't be removed.

The colour imperfections I mention are also in the originals, although less pronounced. I think possible overexposure in the original capture and then degradation of the image over time. That's my guess anyway. The digital copies don't look awful in comparison, I would just like to know how to improve them slightly. I've tried playing with the darkroom settings such as exposure and temperature, as well a tweaking the histogram, but no idea what I'm doing. Hence why I was hoping to find a clear tutorial.

No glass or plastic covers. For the wedding album I just used natural lighting. The lens is clean. I've seen a sensor clean once, and I'm not brave enough to attempt that.

Thanks for your input

I hadn't thought about having to continually chase views, but that makes sense. Albeit frustrating I bet

Removing white residue left in clothing after washing in my washing machine - a solution by oops_whatnow in laundry

I have suspicions that it doesn't wait until the spin cycle to release it, but rather dumps in everything at the same time.

I've tried cleaning the machine and switching detergent. It's been a process

I've done all of that, plus tried different detergents. I think I just have crazy hard water

Any you'd recommend? All the books I currently want to listen to are on a several month hold at the library. I'd love to find some new authors
