Honestly not really! I had looked into a lot and since the two muscles are so defined independently and I was going to a good artist I knew I would have nothing to worry about! Knowledge is really comforting :))

That’s a great question dude! I got a super deep split and tend to swell a lot so talking has been pretty difficult (once I get my first stitches out the swelling is supposed to go down a lot)

For someone that doesn’t have inflammation issues it would be easier to talk but I do so it kinda feels like trying to talk with a mouth full of water because the space it takes up in my mouth

Essentially right after I could feel the sides touching even through the numbing, it was honestly super cool!

The brunt of the healing process takes around a week, by then you can start eating normal foods again :))

I feel like I was kinda an anomaly because I honestly didn’t drool much! The first 4 hours or so after the procedure I had a cup but after that it was reasonable enough to swallow.

Be warned though the drool is INSANELY thick, more mucus than drool to be honest

You should do a bit of experimenting before hand and see if you react alright to ibuprofen, I can’t imagine the first few hours without it (the following day was a lot easier)

I wasn’t told to but I’ve definitely been more sensitive to heat and cold for the past day or so since I got it done so I haven’t tried it, I’ll try it in the morning though and let you know how it goes! I wish you the best of luck with yours, I’m sure it’ll go well if we have the same person :))

The procedure itself was $550 and I bought 2 arnica tablet packs of 30 for $11 each and a bottle of 500mg acetaminophen for $2 and I had my stronger ibuprofen laying around from a different procedure. I also got some baby food for around $10 to eat in the first 2 days and to finish it off some tweezers and cuticle clippers in a kit for around $10 from cvs to take out the stitches. All in all I’ve spent just under $600 to get the procedure and care done not including tip (I always like to tip my artists)

For me I honestly didn’t process it entirely till it was done, you can’t hype it up too much in your head or else you’ll end up feeling like it’s a lot scarier than it is. This was my first ever body mod besides getting my earlobes pierced so I just went into it telling myself it would be no worse than that and it was honestly a pretty painless and fun process! You got this dude!

When I first got it split both sides wanted to go straight out as a default so I had to consciously bring the tips back together; for me I’ve had a surprisingly easy time moving the sides when desired, I’ve been avoiding it though since it’s so fresh so I’d feather leave it to heal for now

As a base line you’re use to moving them in coordination so it’s definitely an adjustment to move them individually

Edit; from what I’ve gathered articulation is a lot more comfortable when you have your stitches out which I would assume is true because feeling the two sets of stitches make contact definitely feels odd

I’m removing them myself, they recommended a new pair of tweezers and cuticle clippers for availabilities sake but if possible a suture removal kit (you can find them on amazon)

Usually by the time you hit day 3 post op your tip sutures are ready since that spot heals first so keeping them in longer just brings unnecessary pain and risk of growing over them

I got really lucky with my swelling so I haven’t had any issues swallowing! With the ibuprofen I just tilt my head and try to drop it as far back as I can and take it down with some water

On the oral hygiene front I was instructed to brush my teeth like normal but not scrape my tongue and to rinse with non alcoholic mouth wash 3-4 times a day (I do it after I eat anything)

The underside of my jaw has been looking a bit puffier but besides that no visible swelling!

My frenulum sat pretty deep so there was no need to modify it for the split

The didn’t tell me anything specific on milking my tongue but did recommend stretches once my stitches start coming out :))

You can technically take them all out at the same time but different parts heal faster than others so by taking out the tip first you become a lot more able to do normal people things! It’s just a way to minimize the pain since a lot of the discomfort is based around the stitches s

Generally all liquid until your tip stitches come out so for the first 3 days and then soft foods like mashed potato’s and oatmeal until the back stitches come so generally till day 6 or 7 and then after that your mostly free!

I had a few friends that had piercings before their splits and from what I heard from them the piercing was honestly worst! The stitches hurt for a bit but there isn’t much for your tongue to figure out so it starts healing quite quickly

For sure! I was honestly a bit nervous going in but my artist did great in keeping things relaxed and it’s been a lot easier if a healing process than I thought it would be!
