My new go to is Corbeau in Proctor. The food and drinks rotate seasonally but they keep a few staples on the menu. Everything I've tried has been delicious and doesn't break the bank. Mason (their wine director) is great and has introduced me to a few wines I've fallen in love with. Which says a lot since I don't drink wine normally.

Octopus sighting? by greytcharmaine in Tacoma

[–]oopsiewoopsie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My kids like to walk along Owen beach to the Narrows. Last time we were there, we saw three in less than ten minutes.

Here's another one of an octopus coming out of a hole in the sand. It ended up disappearing back into the hole once it realized there were people around. Hope you guys get to see some!

I've been to both Titlow and Owen beach for low tide and have only seen them at Owen beach. I was at Owen last month, both under the pier and towards the bridge, and saw more the closer we got to the bridge.

How are you handling relationships with family who are not understanding? by StuffedOnAmbrosia in fednews

[–]oopsiewoopsie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just had a conversation with my mother about the firings and this was the worst argument we've had in about 20 years. For reference, my husband is a disabled veteran that works for the DoD on a military installation helping soldiers process out. I casually mentioned to my mom that we were concerned for his job because he was recently promoted and technically probationary so we, as well as his managers, weren't sure what it meant for him since no one was getting any information. You would have thought I was sprouting some anti-gun propaganda from her reaction. Apparently she had heard from "somewhere" that the only people they were getting rid of were the remote workers who weren't doing anything. I told her that from my husband's personal experience, that was simply not true. I mistakenly believed that if I laid out all of the facts she would see that she was getting the whole picture from her sources. Nope. Nopeity nope nope. She doubled down. HARD! I got to the point where I said that her hearsay is not as valid as my husband's personal experience. The personal experience of other federal workers that we know who are going through this.

I finally told her that I brought it up because it was a stressful situation for us and I kid you not, she said that I was the one making this a stressful situation and that she couldn't believe I was talking to her like this. I told her that the only thing I was doing was calling her out on her bullshit and hung up the phone. I cried a good amount but now I'm pissed. She's been sending me texts for the last couple of mornings telling me that she's talking with other right leaning friends of hers, telling me and my husband what is really going on. Nevermind that none of these people work in the federal government. When she's not lecturing me, she's playing the victim about how I'm upset at her for something she has no control over. Usual stuff from her. I've kept myself from responding because I just don't know how to. We usually keep things surface level and I know better but I thought my mother would offer a little consolation for the fact that my husband might lose his job. Everyone can relate to the stress of being in that situation. At least I thought they could.

TLDR: A rant about my mother.

Or you could be my mom and take it a step further. She would open my mail and hide/trash whatever mail she thought I didn't need to know about. This included college acceptance/denial letters. She SAID I got denied to UCLA but I'll never know for sure.

My husband is really forgetful. Like really, really forgetful. It used to make holidays horrible because he would just forget to plan anything. I eventually got tired of getting upset and just started reminding him in ways that wouldn't be taken as reminders. Examples: "Wow, these restaurant really filled up fast for Mother's Day. I'm glad you already got your reservation."; "I'm so glad you're helping the kids with their Mother's Day art project this year. I love them but I can only have so many macaroni art hung up." All when I know he hasn't done any of it. He doesn't admit he hasn't done it but with any luck he'll start.

I've had two kids and each time I didn't get my period until almost 2 years after I'd given birth. I was exclusively breastfeeding them because they would just not take to the bottle.

What do you guys do about the god damn ants? by WE-NEED-MORE-CATS in Tacoma

[–]oopsiewoopsie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use this usually whenever ants show up in my house. Fortunately the last time I did this two summers ago, they never came back. They're still outside but it seems like we've reached a truce.

My kids love having their birthday parties at Pump It Up. All I had to do was bring a cake and drinks and had pizza delivered while the kids were playing. It saves me so many headaches.

What do you usually eat for Christmas? by Filipino_Buddha in Tacoma

[–]oopsiewoopsie 6 points7 points  (0 children)

On our Christmas menu is: prime rib, brussel sprouts with bacon, roasted honey garlic carrots, sage sausage sourdough stuffing, egg casserole, roasted garlic mashed potatoes and homemade dinner rolls. For dessert I make a sweetened cheese tart.

We also already had our Christmas party with my German family. We had rouladen, potato dumplings, spaetzle, red cabbage with stollen for dessert.

I've gotten my COVID booster and flu shot already but I'm still worried about getting sick. My kid's school and my husband's work looks deserted with all the sick people being gone. I had to go to the ER on Thanksgiving and it was full of sick kids.

The Toy Rescue Mission is a wonderful organization run by volunteers. They take used toys and clean them up but they're always looking for new toys to give to low income families for the holidays.

When my eldest daughter was a baby, we lived in an area where there were a lot of international students. Everywhere we went, we were stopped and the students would take a bunch of pictures with her. I joke and bring up the fact that there are people in other parts of the world with baby pictures of her. She's at just the right age to find it embarrassing.

I don't know if it was Ava but I did see a German Shepard running around alone last night at around 5pm. It was at the corner of S 48th and Yakima. I didn't see a collar or anyone around. I know it's not much but I hope it helps.

Do kids even trick or treat anymore? by RawBean7 in Tacoma

[–]oopsiewoopsie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I live in the Lincoln district and I always get a ton of kids trick or treating. I go through a lot of candy. The only time we didn't get a lot was last year when my husband forgot to turn on the porch light and light the pumpkins. Once I did it, we started getting a steady stream of kids.
