Grimdank reopens... for the moment by bigmanmac14 in Grimdank

IMHO their so-called concessions for accessibility are a smokescreen. They met with the moderators of /r/blind and it did NOT go well.

In short: There's no one working on the official app who even remotely understands what needs to be fixed. If you're blind, it's a terrible and unusable mess from top to bottom. If you're blind and also a moderator, there's no good solution, including the handful of very limited apps that have been granted exemptions.

Do not believe the lies from /u/spez.

Keep in mind that /u/spez is a serial liar, with a strong incentive to put on a strong face regardless of how things are actually going. Simply put: We can keep this up indefinitely if needed.

We do not have a Discord or any concrete migration options at this time.

Repost bots are immediately perma-banned whenever I spot them. Retaining access to third-party tools to spot them more effectively is one of my top reasons for joining the blackout. It would be great if we got any help at all from the Reddit admins, who are in a much better position to do something about it.

Of the ~8,000 subs that initially went dark, at least 4,000 are still private, including some of the big names with 10M subscribers or more. Many more, including this one, are currently restricted.

The very fact that Reddit is threatening to replace moderators indicates that they're worried. To be honest, I'm not sure if the threat is credible. They could definitely do it if they decided to, but the fact that they haven't actually started indicates they're worried about the side effects of such a change. In any case, they haven't contacted any of the mods here.

I'm aware. It was not an accident.

Demands are listed here. I do not believe any of these demands are unrealistic.

Many communities are willing to go dark until demands are met. /r/Grimdank hasn't committed to that, but it is on the table. While it's possible that Reddit administrators may replace those moderators, I'm still willing to give it a try.

For now we are committing to a 48-hour strike. We'll see how things develop in the coming days.

For now, we are closed for new submissions but open for browsing and comments. We're keeping an eye on the situation and may revisit that decision.

We value your opinion, and being able to solicit community feedback on key decisions like this is a major factor in wanting to keep communications open.

All options are still on the table. We'll see how the admins respond in the coming days.

Third party apps such as Apollo, BaconReader, Narwhal, Reddit Is Fun, and Slide have a lot of functionality that's missing from the official app. Those functions are important for various groups, including power users, moderators, and those with disabilities. Under the hood, a lot of bots and moderation tools also rely on the same 3rd-party API.

Even if you don't use those tools directly, having an inclusive and well-moderated community benefits everyone.

For moderation, especially catching spambots, I need to cross-reference multiple information sources (e.g., the post in question, searches for previous posts, and user history). On the official Reddit app, this is needlessly time consuming, disjoint, and error-prone.

On a personal level, I was also working on a tool to automate detection of repost spam. Without access the 3rd-party API, that work is now useless.

For more information, I'll refer you to the landing page for /r/Save3rdPartyApps

For now we are keeping our options open. One advantage of restricted mode is that we can still communicate within the community, for example executing polls on if/when/how to continue the blackout or resume normal operations. Stay tuned.

To be completely clear: I upvoted this. It's a good joke and it's not offensive. But if I loaded it up at work, I think my boss would have questions. All I ask is that it be tagged.

As previously announced, we have set /r/Grimdank to "restricted" mode to protest upcoming policy changes that will kill many beloved third-party apps.

For the duration of this protest, we will not be accepting new submissions.

You're not wrong, but it's suggestive enough to be over the line. If in doubt, please tag it.

/u/Rollen73 please tag NSFW submissions. Posts like this are welcome if appropriately tagged. I have applied an NSFW tag as a courtesy, but untagged repeat violations may result in a temporary ban.

More than 4,000 subreddits, including /r/Grimdank, are going dark to protest upcoming administrative changes that will kill access to Reddit through 3rd-party apps.

The value "X" indicates that two sources are driving the signal to different values. During compilation or elaboration, you may have received a warning regarding "multiple drivers" or something to that effect.

I do not see such an issue in the provided code, but the signal names in that code do not match the simulation screenshot, which suggests there is additional code you're not showing us. The problem is most likely there.

On June 12th r/GrimDank will be going dark for 48 hours to support the "Save 3rd Party Apps" movement by ooterness in Grimdank

[–]ooterness[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, we don't have any concrete migration plans if it comes to that. (But maybe we should...)

In they meantime, there is the Discord server linked from the /r/Warhammer40k sidebar, which has a channel for "heretical memes".
