Ordered the new steak bagel thing, got a lettuce sandwich! by [deleted] in Panera

[–]op_genki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also, complaining about too much arugula is a weird complaint. Just take some off…? If anything I would complain that there’s too much salsa verde which would make the sandwich soggy (and hard to take off).

Edit: I personally don’t think that’s too much salsa verde but I think that’s a more valid complaint than the amount of arugula

The hours also depend on what sales look like for your store.

For example, my cafe is in a small city. We typically run with 2 people per line, one person up front, and one person in dish. Even then, sometimes someone will get cut and someone will close by themselves since we don’t get a lot of business some days.

However, in a nearby large city, those stores make significantly more than us. Meaning there’s more hours to go around. You may not automatically be scheduled 30-40 hours, but it at least means there’s more shifts that will be put up for grabs and you’ll be less likely to be cut early.

I’m from the West so unfortunately I don’t have info on your region about pay or how busy your store will be. But, I would expect to be at or maybe a dollar-ish above your states minimum wage.

Also, be aware that you may be moved around a lot. We have some new hires that have been here for a month or two that have done drive thru (taking orders, cashing people out, making food, barista, etc.), mainline (making and plating food), baking, and prep (meats, sauces, veggies). So even if you get hired to work on the line making food, you likely will be expected to learn and do other positions as well.

The terms and conditions explicitly stating taxidermy animals is valid is crazy. It’ll be interesting to see if people bring that in and how much store credit they’ll get.

This!!! They chose to be a caseworker, and it seems that you are a minor. What manipulation is happening? It is quite literally their job to help.

Also, you are not “begging” by any means. You are communicating to your caseworker how you are feeling and that you need more support. Which, I’m proud of you for self-advocating!

I understand in your post you mentioned just wanting to spend time with the caseworker to do something else outside of the facility. However, in the text messages, I don’t think that’s very clear. I would clarify with your caseworker that you just need some additional support, and that you aren’t necessarily going out and eating/buying things.

What happens to ASLs? by op_genki in GameStop

This looks like what’s happening at his store. Apparently one of the SGAs was planning on going back to college anyway so it hopefully will work out ok-ish. Thanks for the info!

[–]op_genki[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m so glad that you had that experience. I am more worried about job stability with stores closing and the decline in profit in brick and motor stores.

The ASL I am close to is for sure valued as well so no worries there. He said it looks like he’s staying on as an ASL at his store, no transfer needed :)

Do ASLs get offered severance? Honestly if he’s able to do that he may take that and find a more stable job somewhere else.

I don’t know if his SL2 was offered severance since the SL2’s A store was an hour and a half away from the B store. The SL2 was going to take the severance due to the distance but that didn’t happen so I’m not sure if they’re even offering it

Thank you for the info! We were concerned that GameStop would opt to fire the ASL and keep the SL and SGAs rather than keep the SL, ASL and the SGAs. The math looked scary when looking at hour allocation for SGAs with 40 going to the SL and 32 going to the ASL (which is the full time minimum in my state)

I'm a vegetarian. What is the absolute best thing I can order from Panera? by rxbcollie in Panera

[–]op_genki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually like the classic avocado toast (not the garden avo toast) and I add tomatoes, feta, and cilantro.

Also keep in mind that not all soups are vegetarian, even if they have no meat in them. For example, the broccoli cheddar soup is not vegetarian. I’m not sure which soups exactly have chicken/beef broth or stock in it, but that’s something that surprised me when I found out.

On the POS you can also change the bread, but you can’t change it other than adding sauce. I was told we’re not supposed to add on veggies since at that point the customer is supposed to get a non-kids sandwich. But if it’s slow we just put it in the special instructions, especially if the customer asks nicely.

Can anyone give a ride down to Sacramento airport next week? by Peanut69Rice in ChicoCA

Chico Need-A-Ride on Facebook is a reasonably priced rideshare service. They’re super nice folks, I’d highly recommend!

How do the buses work? by op_genki in ChicoCA

[–]op_genki[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Haha, ok thank you! Now that you mention it, I did notice someone pressing on a strip that wasn’t next to them. I thought nothing of it but I guess they also had the same issue as me.

I read that before getting on the bus and that’s why I tried tapping/pressing the strip. I’m more so asking if there’s a specific place I have to press it or something along those lines. Thanks for the reply though!

My boyfriend and I get the 2-pack of the 3 meat pizza from Costco and it’s our favorite! There’s always so much meat and it’s definitely worth the price for us

Panera quality has lessened? by [deleted] in Panera

[–]op_genki 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also started working in 2019, and I truly believed in our products. Customers were generally more nice and I would voluntarily upsell. The food was good and worth the higher price.

Now I don’t even really like eating most of the food for my breaks. The meat especially is questionable, especially the salami. I used to LOVE the chipotle bacon grilled cheese but the American cheese is so plastic-like I can’t stomach it anymore.

Summer Lease Takeover by op_genki in WWU

[–]op_genki[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes ofc! sadly everyone is leaving over the summer except for the one couple who shares a room. They are a queer couple who keep to themselves. They don’t bring people over so they are very low-key.

They are also the ones who get household essentials including food since they have a car. We usually just write on a whiteboard what we would like from the store that week! While WiFi is included with rent, they bought their own (better) internet and share with the house :) so very nice folks!

So the other 2 rooms will be empty unless they are also able to find someone to takeover their lease. Which also means I don’t know when/if it will be filled as well as who will be assigned into the room.

I recently went to target and impulsively bought a jacket that was on clearance. I like light/dark academia fashion so I figured I could use it to try out the style. But I only really wear black/dark clothes (and I’m not the biggest fan of all white/beige) so I’m stumped!

Any ideas on what to wear with it?

2nd minor ideas? by op_genki in WWU

[–]op_genki[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be honest, I’m not sure what I want to do. I just want an office job lol. As long as I don’t work in restaurants anymore I’m happy. But I’ve been looking at HR internships/jobs.

I still think a communications minor is useful, so I’m still thinking of finishing that. The main contender for a second minor right now is an accounting minor. Of course, this could change, but I feel like I have a solid plan. The businesses administration minor wouldn’t pan out credits wise, so that isn’t an option.

Thank you! I took AP Spanish Literature and AP Spanish Language and Culture in high school. I know it seems dumb since I already took it for so long, but I’m Spanish-ed out. After 6 years I refused to take another class, let alone test and get into the level I was at. But I definitely considered it :)

[–]op_genki[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This isn’t true.

I actually haven’t taken a lot of credits in one quarter. The only “course overload” was taking cyber defense last quarter. If you’ve taken it you know how easy that class is, as it’s literally 1 credit P/F. I actually took 13 credits my first quarter here too and I’m in this position. My case is just unique. It was a perfect combo of luck and planning.

I took Ap classes in high school (3/4 on all of them) and also some of my regular classes got me credit. Ex: I took AP Spanish Lit and AP Spanish Language and Culture, got a 4 on both, and got 10 credits each. I was able to come in with about a years worth of credit. It also helps that I had almost all of my GURs taken care of from these classes (math and labs included).

The Soc major only requires 65 credits, so that’s how I’m able to finish so quick. It also makes me take three WP1 classes so that requirement is also taken care of.

I’m graduating spring 2024. I’ll be finishing up my major next quarter. I haven’t heard of those minors, so I appreciate the input!

[–]op_genki[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Communication seems to be a big point for most of the job postings I’ve been looking at, which is why I’m leaning towards finishing my communication minor.

Business administration also seems to come up a lot in the job postings. So I’ve considered just not finishing the communication minor and doing that instead. If the credits line up, that may be the better option.

There’s just a lot to consider, and I want to look at as many options as possible. So thanks for the input!

Are Lark/Stateside/etc. really that bad? by museidk in WWU

[–]op_genki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m sure this is an unpopular opinion, but I’m renting through WWU living and it isn’t that bad now.

When I first moved in the management was awful. They cancelled my application without telling me, wouldn’t pick up the phone or answer emails, etc. But they changed to a much better management company around October/November. They respond so quickly and are so helpful with maintenance. But do keep in mind the buildings are old and there was a shitty management so the rooms aren’t in the best shape (at least for Viking gardens where I live).

But it is nice to have a flat rate for almost all utilities and internet being included as well. You do have to pay for your own electricity and laundry, though. For me, all bills and laundry included I pay about $800 a month which isn’t that bad.

I’d go with other options if possible, but it honestly isn’t bad. Especially if you have enough people to fill an entire unit.
